Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
Interesting. We're getting closer. I'd say from today on, it could literally be at any time.

Correct. We were going to go there and Kentucky Kingdom two weeks from now before the news about KI came down. Indiana resident here. So...we've never technically had any mask rules at all, in terms of requirement. It was "highly recommended" that masks be worn in public areas where social distancing isn't possible. There's a few random stores that are mandating masks (Menards being the largest example) but for the most part, the bulk of the population hasn't been wearing them here, which is disheartening considering how they've been proven effective in combating the spread of the virus in indoor places. In grocery stores, I'd say at the peak we had about 90% compliance...but we were in a grocery store two days ago and at that point I'd say it was barely 20% compliance. That being said - on June 12 we entered "phase 4", and originally the mask guidance from the state was going to transition from "highly recommended" to "optional" - the governor changed the wording in the guidance last week from "optional" to "recommended". But as far as actual requirements, Indiana's never had any - the logic from Dr. Box (health department) is - "there are some people who may have health concerns and are unable to wear them, and others may become claustrophobic wearing them". The former seems like a defensible stance...the latter seems utterly ridiculous. As the protests have developed and as more guidance has came out, I've actually done a complete 180 on this topic - I was very much in the "anti-mask at Kings Island" boat, as I stated repeatedly on this forum. Now, however...I don't think I'd go at all if masks weren't required. It's just coming down to a "better safe than sorry" mentality for me. If it's too miserable wearing a mask in the park, we'll just leave and come back in 2021 (we have platinum passes this year, for the first time ever).

Is today the day? Fingers crossed...

Seiver County opened very, VERY early on. I highly doubt that they've been "observing social distancing", considering the entire area is one massive tourist trap (and I say that with love, considering I visit every year...although this year is in question).

Worlds of Fun had their reservation system go live 11 days before opening, which would be Monday 6/22 for KI. So...we shall see.

Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
Worlds of Fun allows for two visit reservations at a time. No reason to think KI will only allow for one.

@LuckyluvsKI how are the lines down there compared to normal?

They're still selling the souvenir bottles as add-ons for gold passes on their website, so I'd imagine those are staying.

I'm not saying I won't wear the mask - I intend to after some thought about whether or not to skip the season. What I'm saying, plain and simple, is that if people expect to go to KI and see 100% compliance at all times, or if they expect 100% enforcement at all times, they're in for a rude awakening, because it's simply not going to happen. Also, there's a big difference between the CDC "recommending" and stating something "must" occur. The fact is if we had a nationwide (or even state, such as NY) rule about masks in all public places, this would all be a moot point. Blame our "leaders" for dropping the ball on that front.

I must've missed the part where you were in charge of KI security. My mistake!

Uh, sorry to burst YOUR bubble, but get ready to see plenty of people taking them off/wearing them incorrectly. There's literally no way it'll be enforced strictly throughout the entire park.

Pro tip - take the upper part of the mask, and fold it over inside. Then put it on, and pinch the bridge of your nose while pulling the mask downward. Worked wonders for me (I use a surgical mask so I can't vouch for any other types).

This is what I'm wondering, and I think it's more that people are being cautious. This is a forum of enthusiasts and not representative of the public as a whole, even the passholding public. So I'm guessing demand will initially be very low.

Nope. Honestly, I've decided to suck it up and wear the mask - but I wouldn't go regardless if there's not capacity restrictions. Not while the pandemic is going, anyway, whether that's this summer or 3 summers from now. That's really the X factor for me - restricting capacity.

Sadly, it's not. Many, MANY people don't wear them in public. Pretty sure we aren't even at 15% as a nation.

Right. This is exactly what I expect to have happen. But there are others here who believe if you're walking down the midway and lower your mask for a bit, or if it's not "worn properly" the entire time you're there, you'll be thrown out. And plain and simple that isn't going to happen.

I don't know why everyone's surprised that these parks aren't enforcing the mask rules. CF won't be either, as I've been saying all along. It's too much of a firestorm, you'd need people literally everywhere in the park to enforce it, etc. I laugh when I see people saying that non-mask wearers will be kicked out of the park. It's just not going to happen.

Excellent points, including the midway. Without the "at all times" aspect you open up to grey areas, which I'm sure is something they don't want. I'm guessing medical provisions for people without masks won't be granted either, for the reasons you mentioned. I still don't believe they'll enforce masks on the midway though. But we'll find out soon enough.

Well spoken. Oh, I feel extremely confident in saying that that's how the mask aspect will go. Nobody's going to be there enforcing that you wear masks *in a certain way*. That's just not realistic.

Okay, random guy on internet. Enjoy twisting what I said to make yourself look like the internet tough guy. Again, I say - please remove yourself from the high horse and knock it off with the condescending posts. You don't get to choose the opinions of others, and you certainly don't get to call them selfish just because they disagree with your opinions.

With all due respect, I'll happily do what I want, and really don't care about your judgment. Nor do I buy into your "it's unlikely social distancing will work as intended", given that you're not an authority on the subject. Again - get off your high horse. This is pretty much how I feel as well - we'll suck it up, see how it goes, and if it goes badly, our passes will be good for 2021. No reason not to try, since our drive is minimal (2 hours).

I'm treating the pandemic as seriously as most are. I don't go inside anywhere without a mask. The science, though, doesn't support the need to wear a mask if you can socially distance yourself (i.e. on the midway). That being said we made the decision that we're going regardless, and will gut it out as long as we can. But to call people selfish because they're concerned about having difficulty breathing on a 90 degree day when the science doesn't reflect the need to do so at all times? You should consider jumping off the high horse there. Editing to add that it will absolutely take more than a minute to reserve time using the app. That app will be SLAMMED, and KI/CF won't be prepared for the volume of users. That's not a knock against them, it's just the reality of the situation - no website ever is prepared for a mass influx of visitors all at once.

I don't think it's been stated that indoor dining is closed, actually. But the rest of your points are fair (although the health screening is just a short questionnaire to fill out).
