Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
Universal isn't enforcing it, though - only at the entrance. I think the people that are expecting to be surrounded by people wearing masks the entire time they're at the park are going to be in for a bit of a surprise when that's not ultimately the reality of the situation.

I would imagine anytime now. I wouldn't expect them to wait too long.

Numbers were always going to go up as restrictions were eased, and as more testing became available. I know they're down/flat in Indiana, despite these factors.

No shame from me. It's silly and goes against the known science behind this virus.

We have a fast-pass for Cedar Point this year - bought it when it was on sale. One time use. I wonder if they'll make us use it in 2021 instead. Interesting.

Definitely interested in the Missouri date. We had hotel reservations in May for Worlds of Fun before the world went to hell. Under the right conditions I'd consider still doing that in July.

Is there any word on any of the other Cedar Fair parks opening yet?

Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
It's not that people are being "selfish", it's that the science doesn't justify wearing masks outdoors unless social distancing can't be accomplished - and it can with the lower admission numbers. Only time it's justifiable to wear them is in queue or any indoor shops.

Why is there even a hearing now? Isn't it a moot point?

Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
I don't think it's about "getting over themselves" at all. That may be one person's experience but the average person isn't going to have a fun time wearing a mask on a hot day at a theme park.

This is what I've been saying. Now imagine that in the upper 80s/lower 90s.

Oh absolutely, I'm not disputing that at all. I completely agree.

Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
That's an absolutely absurd comparison. Masks during outside activities are absurd. That's pretty much it. Outdoors is said to be the best place you can be. If masks are required and we decide to go, rest assured on a hot day there will be times that literally everyone will pull their mask down for a breather. So I guess have fun playing Karen all day instead of enjoying yourself?

^^ exactly. Nobody's wearing an N95 mask to an amusement park. We normally wear surgical masks to run errands, but if masks are required and we come to the park I can promise we won't be wearing more than say a bandana.

It really just depends how detailed they are about the policy. If it's "masks on at all times" I would almost guarantee there will be issues, whereas if it's "masks off on rides, walking the midway or eating" (aka common sense regulations) then I think there's less likely to be problems.

I guess my question will be how strict is the mask policy? Will it be required just for queues or indoors? Or do they expect people to walk through the entire park with masks on at all times? Hopefully their policy when stated will be clear, as it'll decide where my dollars go this summer.

Do we know for sure CF will even have virtual queues?
-
Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
See, I feel the opposite - I won't go if they do require them in all areas, because it makes no sense to, unless it's in line for a ride or for indoor areas. Ultimately they'll either compromise on that or they'll alienate a large group of the customer base. Either way it's a tough call for them I'd suspect.

This is a common sense compromise to the mask issue IMO and one I would have no problem with. Makes much more sense to not require them while just walking around the park.

Well we definitely agree on the last part at least. As far as why the state would close for the latter two - those are state guidelines for reopening, are they not? You can't socially distance at full capacity, and social distancing is very much a mandate still. But masks are not - that was made clear today. I'm 100% confident they wouldn't be shut down for people removing masks. I mean ultimately, it's entirely their decision as to whether or not they require masks - I think they'll lose more business than they would by not mandating them. As I said, I personally won't attend if they do, because walking around all day with a mask on an 85 degree day sounds like absolute hell. Not to mention there's no way my wife would be able to manage doing so. And this is coming, as I mentioned before, from two people who have worn them every time we've went into an establishment. We'll find out what happens soon enough.

No, we said they're not going to kick people out for taking a mask off. It's not worth the bad publicity, it's not a state requirement and quite frankly they need the paying customers right now.
-
Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
Exactly. Masks at an outdoor amusement park make little sense other than when standing in line.
-
Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
The state isn't going to shut the park down if people don't comply with a park rule that isn't a state rule. That doesn't even make sense. Now, if social distancing isn't enforced, or if the attendance limits aren't kept, sure. But there's no chance the state would shut down the park if people didn't wear masks.
-
Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
There's no government mandate that masks must be worn at amusement parks.
-
Coronavirus Impacting Theme Parks
Agree here. I'd be pretty furious if I took a mask off for a bit to have a breather and was told I needed to leave the park for it. Wearing a mask at an outdoor amusement park with 20-30% of its capacity is extreme to me - and I'm the person that doesn't go anywhere in public right now without a mask. I just don't think the science backs up wearing it - the only place I could really see it making sense is in queue, if they don't do virtual queues.
