Advice for first time at KI with 5yr old.
First things first, when you get to the park have your kid measured and get a rest band. In the evenings, this is often done in the customer service station right as you walk thru the ticket tacker booth. In the mornings, and thru the day they have this set up right by the keyhold picture booth (there is a large sign w/ height restrictions there, to the left of the fountains before you'd get to the skyline chili). This will save you a lot of time potentially having your kid have to hop off a ride to get measured than jump back on the ride (ie they don't measure you before you hop on The Racer). I'd also advise you to check your kids height prior to going, with the shoes he'll wear that day so you can get a rough idea of where he'll fall. The last thing you want to do is build up a ride, only to find they won't let him get on it. Do they have a Peanuts character by the measuring crew?At least for the first hour? If not, t would a good touch, because it would lure parents with kids towards it, more people might utilize it, and save time in the line in the long run.

And then depression
This! I shall be able to go the Haunt. I'd like to be able to have one slow park day, though. I like those late summer days when the park is not crowded at all.

Halloween Haunt 2011
wow. Thanks, Ringmaster. That was a bit of work. (edited to add) I wonder if they are going to toss in the sound of baying bloodhounds and a chewed up prisoner crawling through the rows to the corn maze. That would make my brother and I feel right at home.

Kings Island theming
I liked the effect, too, but I hear they stopped it due to grab hands in the dark.

Halloween Haunt 2011
Wha-? There'll be no asphalt squishing between my hillbilly toes? Hopefully to mirror the actual terrain of where corn grows. As a kid, I used to play hide and go seek in the corn, so I'm biased about it. It can actually be pretty scary when you get a few acres out. Scarecrows frighten me. It's from growing up by LCI, where the convicts would make a break for it, and invariably end up in the cornfield, (no, not while I was playing hide and seek, or at least I hope) I want to be frightened by this maze.

Fast Lane
Thanks. I didn't know they were using specific trains (Red vs. Yellow). They are probably taking into a account the wait time of the regulars, to alternate like that. I can see where it would add to the waiting time, though I've personally not noticed. It seems to me, that other than teleporting to the front, you were treated like everyone else, seatwise. Once in the coral, if I hadn't been asked to move forward, I could pick and choose, too.

Wear comfortable shoes! Planet Snoopy doesn't seem that big, but a day in the park with a kid can wear you out. It's easy to go from ride to ride there, due to the placement. There's nothing as fun as being on the ride with them, if the attendant allows, squeeze in. You'll always remember that expression on his face. Remember that if you ask for water, you will get a free glass. I might suggest carrying a few packs of wet wipes, in case you get the blueberry ice cream. It has a tendency to travel allover your child.

Fast Lane
A bit of a late reply: no, those are something related to Great Wolf Lodge (probably their waterpark passes). The Fast Lane wristbands are waterproof paper with a Kings Island logo on one side and the date printed on the other. Thanks for biting the bullet and trying it out. That's a lot of riding. I'd say it was worth the money to, in essence, turn a Saturday park experience into a late August weekday, or as you said, to power ride. In the lines with the most FLiers, was there enough seats left over from them boarding to allow regulars also to board? I'm asking because I wonder about the 'at the most' waiting for the next train, or disc in the case of Delirium. Basically, do regular riders get bumped that much? Or is it just waiting for the next cycle? Did you choose your own seat? Or was it assigned? Did you see other patrons being assigned seats? Also, were the trains being completely filled before you left the station? If you were seated in front, you probably didn't notice, so no biggie if you don't answer. Thanks for answering my question about The Beast being down, and the info about an electronic device being taken away. (The FB poster was probably that rider, they seemed pretty sour when they posted.)

Assigning seats on The Beast
"If you don't give me a FREE SPRITE, I'm gonna go out to the parking lot and slash yo tires!" You know, I never did ask that kid how he planned to figure out which car was mine. And I thought I had run-ins with strange people. You people have the full deck. (On FB a guest noted that The Beast was down Saturday. Friday it was FOF, Is this regular maintenance throughout the season?)

1972 Holiday Inn article
Good. The last thing I'd want as a kid is to have a mangy bear delicately poising his dirty yellow glove on me. Now not only do SF patrons have to worry about rides named after DC superheroes, but they have this l'i'l gem to watch out for.

oh, let's face it, Yogi Bear in that picture looks downright scary. Even Timothy Treadwell wouldn't get around that bear. His eyes look hollow and haunted. Why don't they make an Old Mascot Maze as a Haunt? That would be chill inducing, going by the likes of this picture. Standbyme, I wish you could've seen the park the way it was. I went during that time, and even went to Injun Country.

Fast Lane
It was all day Fast Lane when I was there, but it wasn't bad. I saw the bracelets allover the park, but when it came to rides, only two or three people were in line, at most. The cleanup of lines actually benefitted me, at times I got on the ride before the Fast Laners. Perhaps it's best to attend the park in twos. I didn't see any of the Fast Laners being snarky or rude. I did see a lot of measuring kids for rides, and checking on the sample seats for fit. I wish some moms would understand the size standard is a safety issue. I saw more than one mom, it's never the dad when I see it, carry on like a Banshee because their kid doesn't fit the ride. I saw one little guy with a orange paper Cedar Faire bracelet on, and found out that it was a "this tall to ride this ride" bracelet. More of those would help speed the line, by stopping the moms arguing with ride ops.

Assigning seats on The Beast
A friend of mine tells a story of being at Kings Island as a young girl, riding the Scrambler with her sister, when, suddenly, out of nowhere, a man in a suit and tie, carrying a briefcase, hopped on the ride with them. "It's three to a ride, yaknow.". She was left wondering about an amusement park that hired businessmen to make sure cars had the complete compliment of riders. hmmmm. Now i'm starting to wonder.....

Lady with cell phone on the Beast?
Haha! How 1970's to lose a wig! I wonder if it was an Eva Gabor number, that would have put that rider back a whole 29.99, Or worse, an Elizabeth Taylor wig. Then she would be grousing about it to this day.

Man Loses Sight on Dragon Challenge (USO)
I'm a person that gets everthing in my eyes, and never felt my good glasses were ever secure enough, even with the dorky strap in back. Last night I wore the goggles. The Liberty brand sports goggles took away the real fear factor of riding, (getting something in my eye, have my expensive glasses fly off) so that I could enjoy the manufactured fear. Bifocals distort the edges of vision, and wearing no glasses makes it difficult of me to see the track, I'm squinching my eyes to avoid everything in the world getting into them. The sports goggles had a wide frame, I could see much more, there was clarity to see the tunnel on The Beast, and the strap snapped securely in place very quickly. Wearing eyegear on the rides was the difference between watching a Philco and HDTV. There was a little kid in line who was wearing the same glasses. We appraised each other for our good taste.

Assigning seats on The Beast
Perhaps this is a case of familiarity breeding contempt. When I thought I'd be unable to go for the rest of the summer, and then had the opportunity to go, I was very happy with the experience I had as written in my "Friday Night" post. We easily rode all the key favorite rides, and then some in the space of four hours. I love Coney Mall rides, and even had time for those. I like the uncrowded station, and to be honest, I liked being allowed to board the car early, due to the new system of filling the trains. It was a very good trip for me. Maybe taking a break from the park, then going back, might refresh the view of it. (If I had to ride the coasters in a Chanel suit, I was getting myself in that park. I was lucky enough to have a client that would allow me to change clothes in their restroom. )

Assigning seats on The Beast
When I went tonight, the only assigned seat was when they pulled us out of the line to walk past 15-20 people. Every other time, we went to the seat we wanted.

Would Friday Night (8/5/11) be crowded?
Thanks for the input. It was a beautiful night. I wish I could say how long the ride lines, were, they were supposed to be about thirty minutes, but we kept getting called up to the front to fill empty seats. There were Fastlane users in only 3 of the rides I was in line for, The Racer, Db, and Stuntcar. The lines in all the rides are more ordered now. You are at the front before you know it. Flight of Fear was down. The Beast was so fast tonight, that people were yelling "It's so fast" as we rode. I was on the left side seat, and making the first turn before the second lift, slammed hard into the side of the car. On the lift, I'm like, okay, not broken, I know what a broken rib feels like, and this ain't it, but when I hit, I could feel it across my chest. I shan't be lifting any grand pianos for a few days, Martha. Made off better than the woman behind me, who was ashen when the ride stopped. She hadn't ridden in 20 years. A lot of groups there, a lot of families, but not crowded. While having a smoke in Rivertown, I saw three litter gitters go by, so at least that explains how clean the park is. I'm seeing the park looking great, and the cashiers seem genuinely nice. The ride attendants and operators are very good natured. Last ride of the night, at 10:30, we rode AE. We were the only adults on the ride. I said to the kids in front of me, "There better be some Tiki dancing from you!" I was surprised that on the tiki hill, they actually complied and tiki'ed. The WindSeeker is tempting me, and the lights on it look beautiful. I was happy to get some time in the park. (Love the Archer music on Backlot.)

August Announcement?
I've only been in one attraction in Botany Bay. I'd have to look at the map to see what they had. I'm sure there's land for expansion.

Man Loses Sight on Dragon Challenge (USO)
That's a thought. A loose coin could do that. At lot of times people think, and myself included, it's such small change, if it falls it falls, but we don't think of it flying back. The Diamond back netting is full of loose change, but DB doesn't have the spirals that I saw on the Dragon's Challenge, all that flipping around would knock anything in pockets loose. There's probably tons of change around the ground in under that ride. How bad for that poor man that he should be blind in one eye and then have the other damaged? He was doing something fun at that. I can only hope the best for him, and that seems so feeble. As for safety glasses, it's okay to laugh if you should see me in the park As part of those 'buy one get one free' glasses specials, (which means you pay a huge amount for the first pair to get the second 'free',) I got a pair of kid's sports glasses for the rides. I AM Rocket J. Squirrel.

Would Friday Night (8/5/11) be crowded?
I have a chance to swing by after another engagement. Are Friday nights usually crowded?
