  1. Here are a few things that jump out at me when looking at these pics: 1) This picture shows the small space between FOF, AE and Racer. While this may look like a lot of space from the sky, it really isn’t. As someone who has walked through that area thousands of times, I can tell you that the best thing you could put back there is a small flat ride. You would also cut off many rides from maintenance access. Let’s face it one of the unique things about KI is that most of the maintenance roads aren’t visible to the guests. 2) I believe most of this area you have highlighted is the are under the high voltage power lines. Now I am not an engineer, but I do believe that you can’t build under these lines, or at the very least you can’t build over a certain height under these lines. 3) First off IJ isn’t going anywhere for a while. True, its theming isn’t complete, and it’s not the most thrilling ride in the world, but it is one of very few rides in the park that can consistently put over 1,000 on the ride in an hour. Your plan sounds like it would take out the lake there. If you could keep the lake maybe, but we would also have to take out a lot of those trees there. I am not sure if I would want to sacrifice the image of the Rivertown area just to squeeze in another coaster. There are far better places in the park. 4) DOT, there’s not much else that you could put here. What you can’t tell from your picture is that directly behind the station is a steeply graded hill. Not much you can put in here without risking damage to the SOB structure or getting pretty close to Delirium. 5) I actually agree with you here. Eurobungee is the biggest waste of space in the park and it needs to be removed. There is so much potential for this spot in the park to help to get the big crowds to the back of the park. Some kind of big flat ride would fit in perfect in this location.
  2. I believe they were talking about the ferris wheel at Coney Island.
  3. I hope it rained on your way home, or you at least stopped at a gas station to get that stuff off of your car.
  4. Yes I can understand where you are coming from, but you need to realize that most of these people are with their friends who have ridden these rides before and they are trying to get a rise out of them. Example the AE answers, or SOB answer trying to get their friend to ride it for the first time. If it is something that someone is deathly afraid of, then I will be stright up with them. But if their friend is trying to get a rise out of them, then I usually play along. Which is what happened in most of the incidents that I described.
  5. There’s the ever popular "Where’s the Eiffel Tower?" While waiting in the Adventure Express Station Is this that ride (pointing to SOB)." My response "Yes" When IJST first opened and we were only giving out tickets to ride "I was never told I needed a special ticket" (After walking past 3 signs and a sign standing next to me explaining the process. "Does this ride go upside down(While waiting in the SOB station which you clearly see from the station) Waiting in line for AE "Is this a water ride?" My response "Yes, this is the world’s fastest and wettest log flume."
  6. Going a little off topic... I've only seen a few episodes of Jericho, but have read quite a bit about the fan fight to keep it on the air. However, the one thing I've never understood--what did peanuts have to do with the show? The reason for the nuts is based on something a Jericho character, Jake, said when New Bern's commander asked him and the town to surrender at the end of the season finale. He said "Nuts!" That also happens to be a famous response given by WWII Gen. MacAuliffe when asked to surrender at the Battle of the Bulge.
  7. Don't forget about Disney's 5 star service to all of it's guests, whether it be at their parks or resorts. That is definatley something that other parks like SF and CF need to learn from Disney.
  8. If Disney purchased Cedar Fair, you can count on more themed rides. You can also guarantee that they would actually take care of the theming as well, something that KI needs to learn how to do. Just because Disney buys CF, that doesn't mean that every park will become exactly like Disney's current parks. If anything, Disney could use the CF parks to invest in larger more extreme rides and place them there and continue what they are doing at their currents parks. They could potentially own all aspects of the market.
  9. Line Jumpers are always a special treat from the shoes of an employee. And even better when you are a supervisor and get called into it. The policy used to be that any operator would either need to see the person(s) jump the line themselves, or they had to get a verification from 2 different parties. This kept people from getting groups kicked out of line who never really jumped the line to begin with. I would say that about 75% of people who jump the line just get up or turn around and leave once you confront them. Another 20% will sit there and try to argue with you but will evenually get frustrated and leave especially when an entire station full of guests are saying that they cut the line. Then there is that last 5% that will refuse to leave the ride, or get up out of the seat causing you to stop operation of the ride and call security to escort them away. Usually when the park police or security show up, they won't mess around with them and will leave.
  10. Actions definately speak louder than words. Take a recent example. CBS cancelled Jericho after just one season. The fans were angry and tried everything that they could to change CBS's mind about their decision. They tried online petitions, but the one thing that ultimately changed the minds of the CBS executives was that the Jericho fans united and sent 28,000 pounds of peanuts to the executive offices. To make a long story short, CBS reversed their decision and signed Jericho up for an additional 7 episodes this year. I am not saying that we should all unite and send thousands of pounds of nuts to Cedar Fair or KI executives. Frankly I don't think that would work. What guests can do is pack their lunch, and eat in the parking lot, or go down the street to McDonald's or else where. Boycott the food services at KI if you want yourselves to be known. Silly online petitions will do you no good. Good luck in your fight!
  11. Personally I wouldn't. Yes the texting on the job part is out of line but the head thing is fine. I think you should be able to have some fun on the job without being punished. You can have fun, but workers also need to be professional at the same time. I have seen ride ops do the same thing with their heads and end up hitting the wrong button. As far as the texting, no emplyee is suppossed to have a cell phone on them anyway. Here is a little word of advice from someone who ready through every single guest comment for the forst 3/4 of the 2006 season. When making a complaint be specific on who you are talking about. Example "Tom from Firehawk..." When you are specific, it makes it easier for the managers to talk to specific people instead of talking to the entire crew and starting a manhunt. When giving a compliment, it helps to be as specific as possible even if it is an entire crew you are complimenting. Example: The crew at IJST at 9:00 was doing an awsome job pumping up the crowd to ride. When you give a comment like this, managers can see who was working at the ride at that time and make sure that the right people get the praise they deserve. Make sure that if you do see that ride operator, or ride crew doing something well that you make sure you let them know they are doing a good job or let their manager know. I can tell you from all of my guest comment reading the negative out number the positive by a huge margin and giving someone the praise they deserve can help make them a better employee.
  12. Is that what they're saying? I have always wondered that “You have disturbed the forbidden temple, now you will pay” is what the big guy says.
  13. Statistically speaking Adventure Express leads the park in riders every year. Vortex comes in a very close 2nd. Must be those Arrow coasters that everyone likes to ride. I can't think of any other ride besides IJST that can consistently put out 40+ cycles an hour. When I was there we were putting out close to 50 in an hour. Also Adventure Express is the second most ridden Mine Train Coaster, next to Disney's Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, which by the way is open year round where AE is only open seasonal.
  14. While I see your point about having these at every ride incase another incident like this happens. What many of you don't realize is that no employee can perform any kind of first aid on a guest unless they have been trined to do so by the park. I am not sure if this is still the case or not, but it was under Paramount. I am sure a current employee can let us know if this is still the policy. If someone collapsed in a station, an employee could not perform CPR on a guest, even if they were certified through a babysitting class, high school, etc, unless they were certified by the park. Which means if someone had collapsed, like this person did, they would not be able to do anything except call for help. Basically they just have to stand back and watch and hope that there is a doctor or nurse in line like there was in this case. I know this sounds like a stupid idea to most people. But we are in a day where people sue others over the stupidest of circumstances. All it takes is some 16 or 17 year old to perform CPR incorrectly on someone a maybe break a few ribs and you have a lawsuit. Nevermind that the same kid might have just saved their life by performing CPR, they are going to go after the park.
  15. I wouldn't hold your breath for your AZ dream. I think Action Zone is fine as it is being an area packed with high thrill rides. To place family flat rides in it would bring down the image that it currently protrays. If you want that type of atmosphere go take a walk in Nick Universe
  16. ^Not sure what they do now, but you are correct. In previous years around 5 or 6 they would pull the tolls workers and guests could enter the parking lot without having to pay.
  17. Ah yes, that brings back memories of IJs first year. Aborted Launches and rollbacks, gotta love them.
  18. Actually I am talking about after you go down the hill and are making your way to the unload station.
  19. As far as the DJ booths in line, I think that would only work a few lines. Beast - fine the way it is Top Gun - bring back the soundtrack and play that as it has always done IJ - got by just fine playing behind the scenes foatage when it opened, I say continue to do that if they aren't already Vortex - Ok you could put a DJ here, but the line moves so fast it would almost be pointless Firehawk - Probably the best line to put one in FOF - Theming is enough Racer - Again line moves too quickly, and is hardly ever long except on busy days AE - Normally a walk on ride. Even if it's a full queue, you will only wait 20 mins max. Face Off - Another good ride to have it at since the line moves so slow The ideal line for a DJ is Action Theater. Smack a DJ booth right in the middle of all of those queues. The only problem is, I haven't seen those queues even half full on either side since the ride opened with Days of Thunder, which by the way was the best program run on that ride.
  20. Yes it it impressive which is probably why the Discovery Channel named it #10 on the top 10 man made structures.
  21. I love Splash Mountain as well, you get a little wet but not too much plus the theming and layout are great, IMO. One of my favorite rides at night as well because I've rode it once when Wishes was going on and it was beautiful. I would love to see a blueprint of it to actually see what part of the mountain you are in at different parts of the ride. If I remember correctly, doesn't Splash Mountain have something similar to the elephant that sprays you towards the end of the ride?
  22. Too many times to count.
  23. What are they going to say? The wind from face/off knock em off the top of the car I don't know what they would say, but in sue-happy America I wouldn't doubt that excuse. What are you talking about??? Kings Island security should have been there to stop them! There's no way they could have know that this activity was dangerous!! [/sarcasm] Actually, BoddaH1994 is right. This could come back on the park because they are the ones that patrol the parking lot via security and park police. Some parent of the injured dumb*ss, I mean teen, who is looking for some $$ could potentially say that if they were patrolling the parking lot correctly that the incident may not have happened. It doesn't sound fair at all, I know and I agree. But this is ultimately what it might come down to. Let's hope not. Obviously security and park police can't be everywhere at once to prevent every little thing from happening.
  24. So I guess when you get on Congo Falls you don't expect to get wet either, right?
