Let me say something to all the people complaining about the announcement- no one really cares. The removal Antique Cars was one of the biggest upsets to families who have been going to Kings Isl

  • So my 4 year old son got a bunch of train/car track for his Birthday. What did we build tonight? The Kings Mills Antique Auto's course!!  Sorry no POV was taken!

  • Best addition of the last 10 years. Taste those salty enthusiast tears.

Would like to see it longer... read somewhere it's a 3-minute ride.  I don't recall how long the old one was- but that seems rather short.

I love the first picture in that post (below). The Racer as a backdrop will look fantastic, and I'm glad they designed the path around pre-existing trees.

So when does the guide rail go on top?  Is it embedded into the concrete as it dries or is it bolted down?

I also didn't realize the track was that thick.

Welded, per the manufacturer. Metal anchor plates are spaced approximately every 5 feet and embedded into the concrete, then the guide rail is welded in place and ground smooth.

Makes sense they would weld it, as welds are stronger than the parent material, hence wont break like bolts, last longer (provided they dont get any porosity), and can be a smoother joint. Looks like a single J butt weld from their diagram. Hard to see though.

We haven’t seen that in any of the pictures yet. I’m sure there is more than 1 way to do this. You can’t see any metal sticking out from the middle of the new concrete roadway.

The original Tiques had pretty big and elaborate stations, too. I think its that big to keep the entire queue covered and be able to have multiple cars stacked in the station.

It doesn’t look like the covered bridge is finished. Will it be fully enclosed, or do we expect those openings to stay?

Still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that something so cool is coming to a spot that has been so neglected for over 25 years.

Having looked at the blue prints, the openings are planned to stay.

I've been away from KI central lately. Has there been anything new in construction for KI antique cars?

Not recently. Hopefully we get another KIBlog update soon.

I'd say it's just a fillet weld.  They don't show any prep work to the base material being done.  Still a very strong weld though.

I am so excited for these this year! Growing up with the old ones. I cried when I was younger when they were removed. This will be amazing.

It is looking amazing! I can't wait to see the finished project! With all the trees and landscaping!

It is looking quite nice.  I can`t wait to take my son on it this year!  He loves cars (Hotwheels are all over our house), so he will surely love this ride.

I can remember it being one of my favs at KI before it was gone. Me and my sister loved it so much.

Was one I always really enjoyed to slow down for a bit.  For some reason I seem to remember being more fond of getting on in Rivertown over the Coney entrance.  It would have been almost the same ride I'd imagine?  Anybody know what the main differences may have been?  I can just remember preferring that one is all.

I remember for a while they only ever used the Coney entrance. Thinking back and I will say way back so memory may be foggy. I don't remember ever going when they used both sides.

I think they stopped using the Rivertown side (known as the Ohio Overland Auto Livery) around 1999 or so.  It was one of the first years that I had a season pass (which was in 1998).
