I agree with Pat, If it's in Kings Island, it looks more like Flight Deck's terrain. Son of Beast just doesn't have that much elevation difference. Unless I'm remembering wrong, SOB lies on fairly flat land. Definitely not big enough to host a terrain coaster.

I've ridden Diamondback with glasses with no problems. However, there are many people who lose their glasses on rides every day. Considering how expensive yours are, I would buy a strap for your glasses or just not wear them while riding. You can lose anything that's not secured. Even stuff that you think is deep in your pockets can wiggle out.

This sounds vaguely familiar. Didn't something like this happen about a year ago? No one can see the webcam because everyone is watching the webcam.

Unless I missed something, two trains (red and green) have been sitting in the storage shed until just a few days ago when the green train was removed for maintainance. My timeline is Brown train removed, green train moved to third dock to get ready to be removed, Green train removed only days ago, and Brown train was put back on today. The two trains on the track now are red and brown. If this is the case, then there is still a lot to be done in the next 2 months. My source is the webcam, and I didn't check it very often, so I may have missed something, but I'm pretty sure that's where DB stands right now.

One song that comes to mind is Mercy Me's Finally Home. I was walking into work at KI one day and the song came on inside the park. I was alone, and I started singing along. I love the song and the fact that it was playing at KI was a surprise to me. It was one short moment, but it was one of the best moments I've had at KI. Walking alone in the park singing one of my favorite songs. If you have not heard it, you should youtube it. It is a beautiful song. And of course...Use Somebody. Heard it at least once a day at Diamondback. Some days many many more times.

Over this last summer I lived 2 miles from Coney right down Sutton. I know exactly what you mean, and I'll be living much closer to KI this year.

Depends on the time of year. 3 hours during school, 2 hours over breaks, and 20 minutes during the majority of the summer. No way I'm driving 2 hours from Indy to go to work.

I like your last line. Like we found out in Haunt, you can't even trust the calendar. And as far as capacity, Diamondback has come close to 1620 pph...once. There is no chance SOB is close to Beast as far as capacity. See the above post for reasons why. I just felt like adding that because its ridiculous to believe so. And now to add my thoughts...While the line length can't really attest to how popular a ride is, word of mouth can. At least 3 times a day, people would ask me at Diamondback what was wrong with SOB. While 3 people isn't a lot, those are only the people who cared enough to ask. I also believe that the fact that people were willing to wait a half hour on a slow day is a show of it's popularity. You aren't going to wait for a ride you dislike. Most people know how long the line is as they enter the line due to signage or asking the ride op. For example: If the wait for Firehawk is more than 15 minutes I won't get in line, but all the people already in line feel that the ride is good enough for at least a 15 minute wait. Does that make sense at all?

I like the new look. If it stayed like this for a while, I would be a happy guy. If it does change I won't mind. I'm not to picky about appearances. Just as long as KIC is here for me to read and enjoy, I'll be happy.

If you are talking about the lift on SOB, the answer is no. You simply walk down the stairs. Diamondback is the only ride in the park where you have to be wearing a harness to walk on the lift.

The loop was removed to accommodate the lighter trains. I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) the bulk of the weight was from making the trains able to navigate the loop. The lighter trains couldn't bend enough to make it through the loop without tearing themselves apart, so the loop was removed. EDIT: If I had a nickel for everytime Terpy beat me to an answer.....

The 2006 accident happened in the Rose Bowl. I believe it was about half way up on one the first time through. ^As it has been stated at least once in this thread, and other places. The accident was due to a failure that could not have been foreseen. It was a one time occurrence. It was the second train that went through that injured people. When the first train came back and complained about the jolt, they shut down the ride.

I personally know of at least one person who rides to bus to and from KI. I can only assume that there are more. I got my job by applying early and dressing nice for the interview. I applied on-line in January and got my interview the weekend before the job fair. I figured most positions would be taken after or even during the job fair, so I went in early. It was a very non-stressful interview. If you go in expecting it to be the worst experience of your life, it very well may be just that. Go in calm and collected and answer their questions to the best of your ability. If you have to take extra time to answer some of their questions, its no big deal. Just stay calm and you'll do fine.

I wouldn't bet too much money on the new GG trains. If I developed new trains for my company, SOB would NOT be receiving them due to its history and possibility for future complications. Also, I've heard (don't remember where) that GG will not put the trains on a coaster that they did not build. I can only assume that if this is true, GG would need to come in and completely re-track the ride. That alone would be very expensive, then add the cost of brand new trains, and that's a ridiculous amount of money to be poured into a ride that has failed. I love the ride and I will ride it tomorrow if they open it, but from a realistic business stance, you have to cut your losses and say enough. I am completely for doing what ever is necessary to keep SOB running, but I will not be surprised or upset if/when it is taken out.

^That's good to know. My one complaint was going to be the sides, but if you can see over the top of them, then I have no complaints at all. I can't wait to try these out next year.

And to add to Nemo's post, the splashdown is being drained as well. Hopefully they get it cleaned and figure out a way to keep it clean through the up coming seasons. It got nasty.

MCBR stands for Mid Course Brake Run. One of the morning tests on any roller coaster is to make sure the trains don't advance into an occupied block section. This is why that train was stopped, and that's why if you are in the park early enough, you might see a train stopped at the top the lift hill. Most people assume it must be broken when its actually working as it should.

I don't know the answer, but I would believe it. If you sit in row 9 or 10, you float over every single hill. Its not as intense as the back, but you get more float time in the middle.

I claim responsibility for that one. I was separating alone and it just kept backing up apparently. Now everyone knows why we close the line when it reaches the bottom of the stairs. Hopefully it never happens again. Other than that, the line hovered around 45 minutes for most of the Haunt tonight. Sometimes less, but most of the time it was a full queue. It tapered off towards the end of the night. At 1 AM, the line was about 10-15 minutes. Not bad if you want one last ride before you head home.
