I didn't realize Firehawk was that slow. I thought it was closer to 60 or 65. Thanks for the correction though.

A few more funny things I heard today: While standing in line for Drop Zone, I heard a kid talking to his friend: "I can't believe we've been here for 3 1/2 hours and the only thing we've ridden is Spongebob 3D!" Same kid, while talking to his friend about Firehawk: "It's like 30-40 miles an hour slower than Diamondback". This kid also said he thought Firehawk was way better than Diamondback...

Went to the park this afternoon after church. Got there around 1pm after a brief stop at Wally World to pick up a glasses case because I left mine at home. As expected, the park was packed. I ended up parking all the way out in Beast 32 (which ended up being a great thing at the end of the night - more on that in a bit). After switching from sneakers to sandles, then layering myself with spray-on sunscreen, I made the 5-minute hike from the parking lot to the main entrance. Seeing that the line for pass processing was backed up to the parking lot, I was glad that I'd gotten my pass processed already. Long story short, I decided to mainly ride things I hadn't ridden yet this year, and even though the lines were long, I still got quite a few rides. I ended up riding DBack twice - once in the SRL and once in the regular line (which turned out to be perfect timing because the fireworks started just as we were heading out of the station - Diamondback with fireworks is awesome!). I would have ridden it more, but after I rode it the first time, the SRL was closed and there were a lot of people heading for that ride (which of course is what happens when the park map recommends people waiting until afternoon to ride it because lines will be shorter then...). The second DBack ride was a substitute for my usual Beast night ride because The Beast was closed by the time I got back that way around 9:15 or 9:30. Ride count for today: Adventure Express - 1 Avatar - 1 Blue Racer - 1 (and we won ) Diamondback - 1 Drop Tower - 1 Fairly Odd Coaster - 1 Firehawk - 1 Monster - 1 Shake, Rattle & Roll - 1 Son of Beast - 1 Spongebob - 1 Viking Fury - 1 Vortex - 1 Notes/observations: Apparently some of the kiddies last weekend had too much time on their hands while waiting for Son of Beast, as evidenced by all the graffiti on the red support beam of the ramp, one piece of which is actually dated. Further graffiti can be seen etched into some of the wood further up the ramp. Spotted this under the Son of Beast station: The statues at the end of Adventure Express were actually working this time, but the ride itself seemed lamer than usual since I rode it right after riding Son of Beast. Son of Beast overall was a lot smoother than it used to be, but the wobbly train made for a rough ride anyway. There are several concrete posts under the final straight track on Son of Best - possibly leftovers from the Monorail? I am not going to ride in the back of any car on Vortex again because I don't like squirming trying to avoid whacking my knees on the back of the seat in front of me. Fairly Odd Coaster is still a fun coaster without the tunnel, but I liked it better with the tunnel. Was going to ride Reptar, but decided quickly that it wasn't worth a 45-minute wait. Parking at the north end of the lot turned out to be a good thing - only 20 minutes from the time the fireworks ended to the time I was on the freeway headed home. I avoided a lot of traffic by going out the north entrance. I still miss the trams though. The line for Crypt was out the door at one point - too bad those people didn't know about the new program. Someone lost their basketball in Rivertown because they were being stupid with it. They were tossing it up in the air, hitting the net under Diamondback near The Crypt. They caught it a couple of times before the ball hit a fence and rolled off well out of their reach... The Euro Bungy thing was actually semi-popular today.

Whoever wrote that article should be shot - the past tense of "bid" is "bid", and not "bided"...

Shortly after KI opened in April of 2005, they closed one day due to snow in the forecast. I remember they were announcing it over the speakers throughout the park all day and telling people who had tickets for that day to stop by Guest Relations on the way out for a voucher good for any future date. I thought that was a really nice gesture from KI considering they had no control over the weather.

Of the three on the list that I've actually ridden, I voted for King Cobra. It was a really fun ride that stood out from the other coasters due to the unique stand-up design. recaR was fun, but more of a novelty than a unique experience. Ghoster Coaster was unique, but more enjoyable for the kids than for adults. Sure, I loved cramming myself into that ride simply because I could, but I don't miss it that much.

Can't think of a good new name for it. As far as colors, a nice shade of Navy Blue would be great for that ride.

Technically, I've ridden 4 other coasters. Three I don't want to count because I haven't ridden them recently, and the 4th I haven't ridden since it was re-themed... I rode both Space Mountain (don't know which side) and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad when I last visited Disney World about 9 years ago. I rode Giggle Coaster about 17 years ago when it first opened as Scooby Zoom. Have been avoiding FOC since it was changed from Beastie, but have decided to ride it again anyway just because I can.

When I was at KI for RWCW, I saw a guy cram a huge wad of chewing tobacco in his mouth. He then proceeded to spit in the bushes every so often...

I was watching a Youtube video that was basically a "tribute" to now-gone coasters at Kings Island. Random comment on that video: "They're tearing down The Racers and replacing them with steel"

I didn't like the ride when it was TRTR mainly because of the part where you were left with your stomach pressed against the restraints facing the floor for several seconds. I did like it when I rode it last Saturday at RWCW. Yes, the lack of a theme was lame, but I enjoyed the overall program of the ride. Based on what's been said here, I will likely be skipping The Crypt on all future KI trips.

Having worked in a parking garage for nearly two years now, I can't see KI getting one, mainly due to the amount of traffic they see each day. It would just make the parking situation worse. The elevators to take people up and down would be ridiculously crowded on busy days, and there would be a ton of congestion once everyone left. In addition, there would be more operating expenses - mainly due to the additional electricity needed to power all the lights and the elevators in the garage.

I couldn't find anything about Timberwolf rules on KI's website, but Ticketmaster says "Coolers, cameras and recording devices are not permitted".

Great photos! I agree with the others that you should send that photo into the contest. When was Slingshot $5? Everytime I saw it this past weekend it was "only" $15 or $20, which is why I haven't ridden it yet...

I definitely agree that food prices should be lowered. While I love Skyline, I'd be more likely to leave the park and drive up to the Skyline up the road (near The Beach) than to eat at the park because it would save me more in the long run. I can get two cheese conies and a drink for under $4 at a normal skyline. I don't remember how much that meal cost in the park, but it was more than $4. I think the first place to start would be overhauling Festhaus and turning it into something that reflects Cincinnati's rich German heritage. I realize that CF doesn't like theme parks, but many other eateries in the park are things you generally won't find outside of Cincinnati.
