September 8, 200619 yr I don't rember when they stoped using the theming underneith the station, or why. Would anyone rember when/why this was?
September 8, 200619 yr Last time I went some of the stuff under the queue was open and I could see a lot of it.
September 8, 200619 yr I vaugly remember what was underneath...The main thing was a mock (I hope) of some fancy bombs in cases on either side of the que. As you pass by, fog rose up an into the station (pretty sweet effect). Aside from that, generic aircraft carrier theming.
September 8, 200619 yr Well, originally, the area underneath the station had a height check station. This was staffed by a member of the ride crew. The height check station was rather pointless since it was so far into the line. Needless to say, it was decided to not staff that height check area and hence the area underneath the station was closed off to guests. I don`t know the exact year, but I want to say around 1997 or 1998.
September 8, 200619 yr I can tell you why it's not used anymore. It's not in the budget to staff that greeter position down there. However, with Cedar Fair now running the show, perhaps that will change?
September 8, 200619 yr Yeah. But as I said in my post, it doesn`t make much sense to have the greeter/height check stand so far into the line. Like on Son of Beast and Flight of Fear, they are stationed at the beginning of the line. Which makes sense if there is someone too short to ride, they are told by a worker they are too short before waiting in a line.
September 8, 200619 yr I just wish they would open it back up because it is very cool. Hopefully CF reviews the que area and decides to open it back up. Might be one of many changes we see next year that will be good for the park.
September 8, 200619 yr THere is no reason to open it up cause the line is never that long to where it needs to be open.
September 8, 200619 yr Its more of an effect. Like the line for Dueling Dragons, the theming in the lines adds to the ride. Especially short rides.
September 8, 200619 yr ^ ^ ^ Agree completely. DD has the best que of any ride and the massive que makes for one of the shortest lines in Florida
September 8, 200619 yr Well whats funny is even 8 years after they changed the que lines there is still a sign up that says Authorized Personal Only where you would come out.
September 8, 200619 yr ^I think that sign is referring to that only employees are allowd to go back and into whats left of the que line so guests dont get confused and jump the rails, thinking part of the ride is back there.
September 8, 200619 yr ^ Well I think we are talking about the wrong sign but I am talking about the one where you are just about to go up the steps and it is on the right. It would be where you would come out of the now closed path.
September 8, 200619 yr Does anyone have pictures of the old queue? I've never seen it and would love to. When they 'changed' the queues, did they just take out the part below the station, or did the queue used to go through the bottom of the station and then go up to the loading platform a different way?
September 8, 200619 yr Does anyone have pictures of the old queue? I've never seen it and would love to. When they 'changed' the queues, did they just take out the part below the station, or did the queue used to go through the bottom of the station and then go up to the loading platform a different way? As you go towards the actual ride structure itself, you'd make a left instead of a right. From there it would zig zag through the area under the station and would let out at the bottom of the same steps we use today.
September 8, 200619 yr Whenever you walk through the line and get ready to go up the stairs you can look in and see where you use to go in and the under the station to wait in line. In the past it has had fog and other special effects when you leave the station. It was supposed to simulate an aircraft taking off from an aircraft carrier.
September 9, 200619 yr Now as I walk toward the station I get the odd feeling that I'm in need of a shave.
September 9, 200619 yr http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/pkiguy1/album?.dir=/8bd3re2 PICTURES OF TOPGUN LINE Just to let you know that they have moved the old curtain that was hiding the computers and stuff. So I had heard that CF was thinking of opening it.
September 9, 200619 yr I seem to be having a problem with that album: The File You Are Looking For Is Inaccessible I tried signing in, but got the same message.
September 9, 200619 yr I remember riding Top Gun soon after it first opened. It was a pretty neat experience. Cool TG music throughout the queue, the billboard had jet coming out of it, everyone in flight suits, going through all the effects in the queue building. It was neat.
September 9, 200619 yr When I went last time the TOPGUN soundtrack wasn't playing. Was it just the one day I was there ?
September 9, 200619 yr The sound system sucked. The music was always out of wack. Tech Services never wanted to get off their lazy asses and fix it.
September 9, 200619 yr Ouch. That's a little harsh. Thanks for the photos, TopGun. I figured I could count on you for those pics. It'd be nice if CF did reopen that part of the queue. Yeah, the queue is already long enough, but a good portion of the ride experience looks to be the queue.
September 11, 200619 yr I don`t know the exact year, but I want to say around 1997 or 1998. 1999 was the last year that area was used.
September 12, 200619 yr Hey what do I know but... Top Gun might not be around next season.. speaking of... whn will they announce the new ride for 2007?
September 12, 200619 yr Top Gun might not be around next season.. I think I just died alittle inside. haha
