Actually, the Flight Team helicopter tours were added in 2000, a year after Drop Zone opened.

Pkiguy-the magnetic brakes on DZ are permanent, so the cannot fail unless the fall off or for some strange reason come demagnetized (this is nearly impossible). I THINK the brakes on Superman are LIM brakes - they are electromagnets. They use electricity to "create" magnets that slow the cars when the come back down. When they "launch" the ride, the oppisite occers, they use the electromagnets to accelerate the cars.

Either way, the magnetic brakes on DZ would NEVER fail. They designed the braking system so that even if the power were to magically go out while the car was en route downwards, it would still slow and come to a stop, just like the way it does during normal operation.

haha Oh YEAA thats right. Wow, how could i forget, lol. biggrin.gif

They`re not going to upgrade Drop Zone for one reason, return on investment. Simply, they wouldn`t be able to recup the money they spent to upgrade it on new admissions to the park. Most people aren`t going to go to a park to ride a ride that is just a little taller but offers essentially the same sexperience. Also, Drop Zone has been immensely popular since the park installed it in 1999. It always has a line and in fact, the park extended its queue lines onto the midway this season, replacing the temporary metal barriers that had been there since the time it opened.

This is wrong. The magnet on the SROS coasters are permanent. Just like those on DZ. The thing about DZ's brakes is, they're static. they don't move at all. The brakes on the SROS coasters move out of the way to allow the train to be moved into the station. What happened with that incident was that an air line failed and left the brakes open. It could never happen on Drop Zone.

They should upgrade DZ!! The bigger the pole the better!

Give it Viagara... wink.gif

they would NOT get a military bird, they'd use a med chopper from somewhere

So long as the magnetic polarity of Earth remains the same, it will not fail. Has the magnetic polarity of Earth changed since the formation of the planet? Yes. Will the magnetic polarity change instantaniously once you're towed to the top of the tower? That's for you to ponder while you're sitting up there. ohmy.gif

What's this yap about the magnetic polarity of the earth changing?

When you work for a goverment entity such as FEMA under any TF, such as OH-TF-1, you can get anything you need that will help you out with a rescue. OH-TF-1 is on base at WPAFB. IF they don't want to drive somewhere, all they have to do is call FEMA, and they will have Wright-Patt send them 2 C130's. One for all their gear, and the other for the crew. Getting a military helicpoter in an emergency is not a problem. AirCare birds and such are not designed for rescue operations. It could be done, but I doubt AirCare, or Miami Valley Hospital would want involvement other than patient transport.

Training isn't really a problem. Every bird they fly has one flight nurse, one doctor, and one pilot. Most of their pilots have military experience before working for UC. Its more of, if the pilot is willing to take on the chore of having someone haingin from the bottom of his chopper and how the hospital feels about it. It has been done a couple of times when the Flash Flooding comes to Cincy.

Okay we all know about drop zone I think its time this came to a close.
