November 2, 200916 yr I was reading on Wikipedia about The Beast and it said it opened on Friday, April 13, 1979. I just thought that was kinda strange. I know this is random, but I thought I should share. Maybe Friday the 13th isn't totally bad luck, as The Beast seems to have done well. OR, maybe the date that it opened is the reason it is haunted (if you believe that)? *I can't guarentee that is accurate as it is from Wikipedia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Beast_(roller_coaster)
November 2, 200916 yr I believe that date was the Media Preview, and April 14th, Saturday, was Opening day.
November 2, 200916 yr Author Oh. But the first none-park associated riders were on the 13th, which I still find interesting.
November 2, 200916 yr Part 1 Part 2 From part 1 of this very reliable source... On Friday April 13, 1979 the world’s longest, tallest, fastest wooden roller coaster opened, in spite of a downpour.
November 3, 200916 yr Author Maybe SOB didn't turn out weel because the spirit of The Beast didn't want another coaster in the series. Maybe they should just rename SOB and that will fix its problems?
November 3, 200916 yr The name Fairly Odd Coaster is no longer available for old Sonny... but "Fairly Off Coaster" is available...
November 3, 200916 yr The name Fairly Odd Coaster is no longer available for old Sonny... but "Fairly Off Coaster" is available... Oh, I suspect Viacom would think that is a bit too close....maybe 10 years from now, not...but right now it is just too close to the nick of time.
November 3, 200916 yr Which is why the Lucy's Crabbie Cabbie at Carowinds has me wondering.... http://www.carowinds.com/attractions/detail.cfm?ai_id=300 Seems mighty close to Spongebob's Krabby Patties...
November 3, 200916 yr Author ^^Yeah, it is kind of close, but yet not at the same time. The only similar part is Krabby/Crabbie, and then the rest just rhymes.
November 3, 200916 yr By next year they'll probably be working for peanuts. That's for the birds: http://www.carowinds.com/attractions/detail.cfm?ai_id=25 http://www.carowinds.com/attractions/detail.cfm?ai_id=293 http://www.carowinds.com/attractions/detail.cfm?ai_id=297
November 3, 200916 yr Note those are Carowinds names....the ones at KI may or may not be similar/the same. See, for instance, Firehawk vs. Nighthawk. Flight Deck vs. Afterburn...
November 3, 200916 yr Author ^^Why would you say that? Only the kid's rides are changing names...I think....I hope...
November 3, 200916 yr Perhaps because many guests are still using names like Face/Off, Top Gun, Drop Zone, Italian Job: Stunt Coaster, Tomb Raider: The Ride, etc. Not to mention by what moniker, if any, Son of Beast may be known...
November 3, 200916 yr Perhaps because many guests are still using names like Face/Off, Top Gun, Drop Zone, Italian Job: Stunt Coaster, Tomb Raider: The Ride, etc. Sorry, yes, this is what I meant.
November 3, 200916 yr http://www.carowinds.com/attractions/detail.cfm?ai_id=293 It still says Paramount's Kings Island.
November 3, 200916 yr I have said that if they are going to rename Son of Beast, they should call it "AirTran the Ride"..... (Still wonder if anybody gets that.... )
November 3, 200916 yr I have said that if they are going to rename Son of Beast, they should call it "AirTran the Ride"..... (Still wonder if anybody gets that.... ) didnt airtran skid off a runway?
November 3, 200916 yr Author I'm not sure if that is true, but if so, that is probably what he was alluding to.
November 3, 200916 yr Part 1 Part 2 From part 1 of this very reliable source... On Friday April 13, 1979 the world’s longest, tallest, fastest wooden roller coaster opened, in spite of a downpour. That is a great article by the way. Thanks for posting that.
November 3, 200916 yr http://www.carowinds.com/attractions/detail.cfm?ai_id=293 It still says Paramount's Kings Island. Yes, but back then it was Paramount's Kings Island though i too am a bit surprised they put the penny pinchers in that description. Usually, CF seems to dislike talking about the certain era between 93 and 06.
