Bavarian Beetle

Featured Replies

I'm not old enough to remember it and I haven't seen any post on it, so I wanted to know if it was anygood or if someone had a picture of it.

Yeah it was at Coney Island before it went to PKI. I think it was around where the Festhaus is now. It was called Galaxy when it was at Coney Island. I imagine it was probably similar to the Python coaster that Coney Island has now. Kings Dominion used to have one too, but I don't know what it was called.

I... hate that ride. I can't beleive I payed money for it. In fact, I almost got my head knocked off on it. I got in it with one other person, who was sitting in the back seat, and I put my seatbelt on loosely, for the air time. On the second or third VERY quick drop, I was turned around talking to my friend. As our car went over the drop, I flew out of my seat, pretty much fully standing up. I grabbed onto the handle bar in the knick of time, just as a metal girder flew by about half a foot above my head. It sucked.

Yeah I didn't like it either, same with Serpent at LeSourdsville. I did ride this Galaxy type ride at Old Town in Orlando called Windstorm though, and I found it to be a very fun ride.

Yes, Bavarian Beetle was a Schwarzkopf Galaxi from Coney Island. It sat right where Festhaus is now located. It ran from 1972 through 1979 when they took it out.

No one really seems to know much more about it.

I rode the Bavarian Beetle (whoa, really giving away my age on that one) and it was one of my favorites at the time. The cars sat only 4 people. If you've ever been to CP, it is similar to the Wild Cat(if you go to the CP website, you can see a pic of it). Except, with the BB, it had a downward helix that went around 4 or 5 times while gathering speed. I heard that it was torn out because on this one hill, when it was raining, the cars couldn't clear it. Just what I heard. I also was fortunate enough to have ridden The Bat as well. That was a good ride as well. The Bat was taken out due to there were too many sharp turns which constantly cause the shocks overhead to wear out. Hope this helps out. biggrin.gif

reminds me of the Pepsi Python. The python tried to break my neck. I don't think I would have liked this very much. Then again, I don't particularly care for the festhaus either.
