Breaks taken off of the Son

Featured Replies

I am almost surprised that no one has posted this before me, making me think that this must have been an isolated occurance. What i'm talking about is that during my visit to the park last Saturday, I noticed that the breaks in the break run before the loop on the son were seemingly non existant! I have ridden the Son over 200 times and can not recall ever when this has happened. Needless to say that it made the ride much better, giving it more of an outa control feel to it....relative to before, the coaster coasted through the loop, second helix and bunny hops, Satuday it screamed through them. Has anyone else experienced this or was this just an isolated occurance?

I have had this happen to me before as well, I am not quite sure why it does it but the only thing that comes to mind is the train has allready left the station block before your train gets to the brake run, thus making the system have to keep your train fast to keep the system moving smoothly. ph34r.gif

Has anyone ever rode the Son of Beast and there was a weird noise like something on the cars was grinding on the track.

Did you have a lot of fat people in your train? Well the censors probably pick up the speed of the train and determine how much braking needs to be used. No big deal.

Only on the lift hill! biggrin.gif

I've rode it many times and I have experienced that feeling. It kinda scared me at first, but then it made it alot more out of controll and fun. It happens on the lift all the time.

I think I know what that noise is,

In the station, on the lift just before the drop, and in the midcourse and final BRAKES, there are tire boosters for in case the train gets stuck or stops. It makes a weird noise when the train passes over it.

I rode SOB wednesday night at the employee rides night, and the midcourse were definately on. Still an awesome ride though. I like the new lapbars, they make it a little more comfortable.

I road the Son again tonight and yes the midcourse breaks were on...so according to this and all of your replies it must have been an isolated occurance. But I hope that some day you will be as lucky as me and ride the son without the midcourse breaks..it truly is like a different animal.

I rode it Thursday and I'm pretty sure that the midcourse brakes were off for us, but I can't be positive. I can't be sure because it was raining like, well, like a female dog. I was in so much pain I wasn't really paying attention, but I still think that they weren't on. I rode it three times in a row, and never noticed slowing.

I too have rode SOB when they had the midcourse brakes off as well. 3 times in a row actually. It kind of worried me at first, but then I realized that it was intentional. It truly is different without the brakes on there. Now if they could keep the cars on the train from moving left and right during the ride. That would minimize the "Crap beat out of you" factor, trust me.. cool.gif

I rode it with out the brakes to. And it does beat the crap out of you. I kinda liked it better with the brakes on it because I had bruises on my legs.

I like it better with the breaks off. More speed... A little rougher but the speed and airtime is worth it.

Thats really odd, I've never heard anything about the brakes opening up, thats simply nucking futs.  unsure.gif

WHAT?

Switch the N and F.

I think the big item about whether the brakes are on or off, is how full the train is. If its not full, and moving somewhat slower, than perhaps the brakes do not activate, since activation would slow the train down and possibly make it valley before the loop? Just a thought, since a full train moves faster than one that isn't full.
