February 25, 200323 yr Does anyone know how fast The Beast could go if they were to turn off the breaks?
February 25, 200323 yr Probably about 75 m.p.h. is what I heard like last year when they ran it brakeless.
February 25, 200323 yr Well if they turned off the brakes it would probably rip the track apart if it ran like that more than about 20 times.
February 25, 200323 yr Like I've said before, it averages around 75mpm since they rebanked the turns. It all depends on the weight that is in the train though. With one load of people it might go 70 and with the next 75 it just averages 75.
February 25, 200323 yr Um the breaks are earth magnetic breaks just to let you know. They can't be turned off. I don't get where you say its ever been ran without breaks cuz it hasn't!!
February 25, 200323 yr At one point, The Beast did run brakeless. After the accident where two trains collided, there was a short period of time when there were no trim brakes on the ride, because the park was in the process of changing the skid brakes into magnetic brakes, so that the ride could run in the rain. I think that was the only reason why, but I'm not sure. I'm not quite sure, but I don't think there were mid-course brakes either. As far as the banking of the track being changed, I know that parts of the track had to be modified so that it could accomodate the new brake fins, but I don't know if it was modified any more than that.
February 25, 200323 yr I think your right and it did used to run semi breakless because the midcoarse slowed you down a little. Edited January 1, 197056 yr by Coasterguy107

That is a lie, the trains collided at 5 m.p.h. and it wasn't closed down for very long if I remember right. It was towards the end of the year, and the ride did not run brakeless. I never heard about any turn rebanking.
February 26, 200323 yr Yeah it wasn't a big deal some people got bruises thats the extent of injuries.
February 26, 200323 yr Teenageninja, how is what I said a lie? I said that there was an accident where two trains collided in the station becuase the skid brakes couldn't stop the in-coming train due to the wet weather. I never said that it was a serious accident, and I never gave any specific details becuase I was not sure about them. Plus, I didn't say it was down for very long either. I'm also about 99 percent sure that The Beast did in fact run without trim brakes for a short period of time. There was a thread about it somewhere on CoasterBuzz, but I can't seem to find it. I'll do a little searching and post back later. NOTE: I'm not fighting with teenageninja, I'm just clearing up our conversation. This is one reason why I don't like "talking" through the internet, because people can take things the wrong way, since you aren't actually "hearing" the person talk. Just wanted to clear that up in case anyone thought I was trying to make trouble.
February 26, 200323 yr What you said was there was a point where the ride ran trimless. That would mean the midcourse was gone and it never was.
February 26, 200323 yr Yes the midcoarse has allways been there, but what about the I guess the boosters check this pic They sure seem like boosters were they allways there?
February 26, 200323 yr They rebanked the turns in 2001. Look at a pic taken before then and look at it now and you will clearly see that they are banked much more. Besides, we know the guy who helped with it.
February 26, 200323 yr Thanks It just feels like those things speed you up going down the second hill.
February 26, 200323 yr Probably about 75 m.p.h. is what I heard like last year when they ran it brakeless. Actually, it's "official" top speed of approx. 65 mph is probably what the ride would do without any trims. With full trains, the ride averages about 26-28 mph coming out of the midcourse trim, after which is slowly speeds up through the rest of the course until the second lift. February 26, 200323 yr Nice to know, i remeber maybe 2 years ago when the midcoarse barely slowed you down.
February 26, 200323 yr Nice to know, i remeber maybe 2 years ago when the midcoarse barely slowed you down. Yeah, the skids brakes gave a much less predictable ride. The magnetic brakes are extremely consistent (which is what they're supposed to be )
February 26, 200323 yr Yea the Midcourse really didn't do a whole lot and I liked it that way. The way the magnetics slam you into the front of the train just blows.
February 27, 200323 yr The breaking system was outdated, it is alot safer now with the new breaks. I'll admit the way they slam you is horrible and I know many would rather run without breaks period, but without midcoarse breaks the ride would litterally rip itself apart...
February 27, 200323 yr Well I think that they need to just lighten them up a bit their too strong. The only trim that really bothers me is the brake shed. I don't think it's necessarily too strong, it's just all at once. I think if the mag brake there were split up into several smaller sections spread thoughout the shed, the braking would feel less forceful.
February 27, 200323 yr Yeah they are to strong, but that's how magnetic brackes are. It still reaches the same speed(around 75) because the magnetic brakes don't cause any friction and release faster.
February 27, 200323 yr i love the brakes in the station, when they come in it stops u so sudden u shoot forward and some people hit there heads!! its so funny.
February 27, 200323 yr Yeah the Brakes are WAY TO STRONG going down the first hill they lunge ya forward and that HURTS!!!
