New Coaster

aside from complete recasting of the entire body, fiberglass is crap to repair. After broken and splintered, finberglas loses all of its structural stability and is unsafe. Trust me, I have had to cut someone out of a mostly fiberglass car before.

I'm happy to say that Top Gun is still here in 2024!

  • Interesting discussion here

  • You do realize the only reason the old VP left the park is because they wanted him to do the same good things he had done for PKI at PKD...there is absolutely nothing wrong with KI...it's a great fami

i have been a auto body repair and refinishing tech for 16 years and fiberglass can be repaired easy and be as strong as it was and the cars was probly made in 2 parts to start with and then put together in the same way you repair it if they was made at one time it would be hard to get them out of a mold

What kind of an accident was the train on Top Gun in? -adam12

PKI Guide used to have pics of it on their site. I'm not sure if they still do or not., but apparently whne it wrecked, the first three cars crashed into the woods, at the far end of the ride. Fiberglas may be easily fixed, but I doubt OSHA and whoever else oversees the park, would actually let them fix something that has to be ridden on by many people, and for all intensive purposes, is out of control for most of its trip.

When Top Gun first opened, they had the open floor cars. That is the way it was the last time I rode it, before last fall. I had not been to Kings Island since 1996. I now have a season pass for the 2003 season and do not plan to wait so long between visits next time! It sure has changed since 1996, and not for the better in MANY cases! -adam12

When Top Gun first opened, they had the open floor cars.

When Top Gun first opened it did not have "floorless" cars. The two trains you saw at the beginning of the 02 season are the exact same two you saw when the ride first opened.

How long have you been going to PKI? Because I rode Top Gun the year it opened and I can remember my legs dangling from the ride and fearing for my life. I also remember having a toy that I had won from one of the games in the park and I had to hold on to it tightly so I would not fall out of the ride. -adam12

They just created the floorless suspended train. It has never been on a coaster before except the one in england. The only change that ride has ever seen since it opened was the change in track color. It started out red then they painted it gray.

I wish Paramount would spend the moeny to restore the themed part of Top Gun. I looks so neat under there, and gives you soemthing to look at while waiting in line. I personally, am against floorless trains, as there are not many suspended coasters out there, that actually have the enclosed cars.

I like 50/50 onfloorless cars. I do not like face/off's floorless cars. But I like CP's Raptor's floorless cars.

I have rode face/off about 4 times and I do not plan on getting on it again. The last time I got off of it I was having chest pains, I see face/off as a very unplesant rush, and I do not find it fun. It sure ain't The Beast! -adam12

Face/Off's line is way too long, for a coaster that is that short. I will ride it again, when you don;t have to wait an hour to ride it once.

Just Do What I Do Get there early ride it once, then ride it at night the lines are allways tiny at those times B)

Yea we don't really ride it anymore. The line is always too long. The ride is only 42 seconds long. And it does not help being stuck on the hill for 32 mins. On a night that closed at 11pm.

PS: We were on the "last ride."

Well everyone isn't going to like ever ride that PKI puts in just the way things are

Thats true. people always find soemthing to complain about. I though Tomb Raider was great and thought others liked it as well, til I heard people complain that it was too short, and was stupid. i think its probably one of the longer rides in the park, in terms of time.

I disagree with you on that because Tomb Raider is fun but too short IMO

In all honesty, I think the ride is really like 3 or 4 minutes long, which makes it one of the longest rides in the park, and much longer than most of the coasters in the park.

Get used to it, it happens all the time. The topics start off as one thing and become something completely different. Its human nature. It fun to see how the topics change from one thing to another

Ehh, no biggie, well back to the Tomb Raider thing. They said it will be longer this season so my opinion might change.

Most all forums are destoned to go off-topic. You dont start a conversation with a friend about something and end talking about the same thing. Well at least for a while... "Hi how are you? :) "Bad I fel sick" "Well what have you been up too? BAM topic change! Just like a thread!

I have too much time.
