Recent additions made by other Cedar Fair parks are your best indicators. Nice additions that I would not be surprised with include: One or two flat rides possibly with a revamped midway. High likelihood of Flying Scooters, (probably Larson, but eh you never know). See Cedar Point, Valleyfair, Knott's and Michigan's Adventure One or more slide towers in Soak City ( I'd expect that they would go near the new pool in the grassy area that was formerly parking lot.) See Carowinds, Dorney Park A new dark ride experience (This one is interesting as the park has a big tan box available but also has an aging Boo Blasters to contend with.) See Canada's Wonderland
  2. This in-depth discussion from another site on this very topic may interest many of you. There are a lot of variables in comparing rides over time to say the least. The Beast 1979 vs 2011 http://coasterbuzz.com/Forums/Topic/the-beast-pov---1979-vs-2011-side-by-side
  3. The ride is such an eyesore that I'd rather see it go. How about they demolish it and to put a steeplechase style coaster in its place. If they couldn't make a ride like that, maybe just a redo of the old cars.
  4. Hopefully this time will be the charm. If anyone out there has an extra 2009 map they could spare I would really appreciate it. I have plenty of maps from (P)KI and other parks if you would like something in exchange.
  5. Now I'm confused. By the way my post was a jab at RMC for their "wooden" coaster Goliath which has polyurethane wheels.
  6. It was ALL about the view of the campground.
  7. Come Hydra, all wooden coasters should have plastic wheels; it's modern.
  8. Never say never. I would say there is a good chance that Kings Island staff had similar feelings towards Arrow after the reliability nightmare that was The Bat. This ride may be an olive branch for Intamin in the same way that Vortex was for Arrow.
  9. Son of Beast had the coolest coaster logo I've ever seen. If only the ride had lived up to it!
  10. One would think that a park would want to keep "The King of Wooden Coasters." Why are woodies being seen as anachronisms?
  11. Yes, I know that. That was a sort of an aside from the rest of my post. The same concept applies though. Yeah, it is wooden, just as ham and Spam are both meat, (Not a knock against "The Bull"). In my eyes a "pure" wooden coaster must feel wooden. Very few riders would care or know how the ride was made, but still.
  12. ^^ Gemini rides on tubular steel track and delivers a ride experience of a tubular steel roller coaster. Outlaw Run runs on a quasi-wooden track with a structurally significant top two layers of steel. It is almost a steel track bolted to wood. Does Outlaw Run deliver the experience of a wooden coaster? I've never heard anyone say that. It is more marketable, as Terp alluded to, to sell them as wooden. El Toro is also a little disingenuous. It is wooden but c'mon it's not REALLY wooden.
  13. Thanks BB7. I sent you a PM.
  14. If anyone is willing to part with an '09 map that would be great. I might even be able to fill a gap in your collection.
  15. That was so hard for me to fathom, but then I remembered that most people LOVE Millennium Force. To me, that ride pales in comparison to Magnum XL-200.
  16. That's interesting. What is it that the Voyage DOESN'T do? There's not much more I could ask for personally.
  17. The problem with modifying safety systems is that doing so casts doubt on the system pre-modification. A guest may very well think "So when I rode this last (insert time period) it was unsafe"? We know better, but many do not. That being said, had there been any issue, or legitimate concern it would be a no-brainer to change the restraints
  18. Sigh, see Flight Deck 2007-2012. See also Nitro early 2001.
  19. Double post sorry
  20. We have two full-sized wooden coasters and one wooden kiddie coaster, all built in the 70's. I'm saying I like wooden coasters because of the traditional bumps and out of control feeling they provide. My problem with pre-fabs and hybrids is that the experience could be made just as easily on a steel coaster. Don't get me wrong, I don't like a rough ride but one that only a properly maintained wooden coaster can deliver.
  21. Robb Alvey did a good job here.
  22. If and when The Bat reaches the end of its service life, (most likely at least a few years off), I'd like to see a wooden coaster in its place. I'd make it A REAL traditional wooden coaster not a laser-cut "smooth as silk" job or a "hybrid." A real wooden coaster has those little bumps and rattles. That is what makes a wooden coaster different than a steel coaster. The environment is beautiful and the terrain would benefit the coaster's construction. Before anyone thinks "steel" first, remember that the park's newest existing wooden coaster just turned 35.
  23. A classic merry-go-round is something that you really don't appreciate until you see a new one! Remember, there's only a limited number of these babies to go around. The expenses of making, (and likewise purchasing), a full-sized band organ, hand-carved, ornate, carousel would almost never be "justified" today. Really the only way that a park as new as KI gets one is if another park closes... and one did for KI, kind of.

A Huss Breakdance would be fantastic.
  25. Terp, I'd hope they wouldn't stop making maps completely. You and I know it will be a long time, if ever, before EVERYONE can afford, (or want), smartphones. Rsipus13, that's great, thank you. I'll send you a PM.
