Kings Island 2015 Discussion Thread
Honstly aftergoign through it the last couple years I wouldn't mind if it was retired for something new. Or revamp it like Slaughterhouse got this year elsewhere in the park. I thinkt he concept is a good one but the execution has been pretty weak. Also not sure if it's just the night I went but there were hardly any scareactors in it. Think we walked halfway through it before the first one popped out.

You also have to consider the fact that while it is a smaller space than the one we lost, the old car ride at Kings Island had two completely separate paths so it was really like half the size of the land. And I think there is enough room to add one in as things are now. Could use the remaining open space next to BLSC and have it bridge over the walkway and utilize the open space next to the International Street Theater and Diamondback's break run. There is plenty of room there for a single track car ride. Could round out a nice midway for International Street there too if they did put a flat ride or two where Tower Gardens is now. Think putting one fo the two you listed would be great because would add another ride but leave enough free space to keep plenty of trees and maybe a smaller sitting/gardens are there too

Ideal Build-Out: Kings Island
Hadn't thought about those either but that could be a fun addition to Coney Mall. Could easily put on in where KillMart is.

Ideal Build-Out: Kings Island
Think that overall this sounds great. I would just make a few minor changes to it. Going with the theory of it all being an ideal buildout. But I would put a Tilt-A-Whirl type ride where Tower Gardens is now. This would still leave space for lots of trees and a sitting/garden area next to it as well to not affect the look too much. Also have the Steeplechase take up more of just the current footprint of BLSC and maybe swing out over the space next to Diamondback and the International Street Theatre. Then can use the remaining area next to Steeplechase and the area below Steeplechase next to the Theater and Diamondback to put in a new antique car ride. Just do a bridge over the walkway there to connect the two lots. Think this would really give it that classic feel to that area. Could also make the entrance to the antique cars be off the walk way by the carousel and have those rides and the Tilt-A-Whirl become a midway for International Street around the base of the Eiffel Tower. I would keep Rvertown with it's current name and theme, I think it fits well. And think a mining themed ride where Crypt's building is would be best, but instead of an interadctive dark ride I imagine something more akin to Mystery Mine at Dollywod, with dark ride elements but outdoor portions of coaster as well. Woudl fit perfectly int his area. Didn't see it in the write-up but agree compeltely with changing Boo Blaster to a Peanuts dark ride with a revamped and more polished look. Overall think Planet Snoopy is pretty good now. I would keep Oktoberfest as a seperate area too but keep the plans about how you have them now. Think a Darkastle style dark ride would be great right there. I would also move Slingshot somewhere else (X-Base woudl be a good spot for it) and put a ride like Der Spinning Kggers there to bring that back adn give us a teacups style ride at the park too. Can keep a dark Woods theme for Action Zone though adn think it woudl fit well with what we have there now. Think the Cobra idea would look great for Invertigo as well, and the Stonehenge-esque decorations for Delerium. I would however take out Timberwolf and add in an interactive dark ride here to fit the area, but I'm thinking something more like what it seems Voyage to the Iron Reef will be like and be mroe a standard dark ride with motion cars and not a rollercoaster type dark ride. This could incorporate a story for the area as well too. Finally I would add a giga coaster that utilizes SoB's old tation gong out behind Banshee for it's course. X-Base Plans look good but might try to add a quick service restaurant in here. It could go next to Flight of Fear's exit. With Slingshot across from it next to Mission Control. I would add another big flat ride over here too , maybenext to Firehawk's exit. Think a Screamin' Swing or a Sledgehammer would be great here.

Disney World updates
Agreed. Fantasmic is super popular still. Was just there last month during their off season and the stadium was still almost entirely filled during the middle of the week. Would love to see world of color come to WDW but think it would work better at EPCOT. They could use a new nighttime show as well. Though Reflections fits the idea of the park better. Looking forward to all the big changes come to Hollywood Studios (or whatever it is to become). It has needed a lot of work and expansion and they seem to be gearing up for it with all of their cuts in attractions and bringing over the ones who did California Adventure's remodel.

Kings Island Ranks in Top 5 list for Coaster Fans
I'm not real surprised to see Kings Island in the list. I think we have a great line up. Many with a great history or records. Racer is basically credited for starting the next golden age of coasters. Beast is ranked one of the best wooden coasters and still the longest. Banshee is a world class, record breaking coaster. We also have a suspended coaster (The Bat), a shuttle/boomerang (Invertigo), launched and indoor coaster (Flight of Fear) with decent theming, a great mine train coaster (Adventure Express), big multi-inversion coaster (Vortex), airtime and hyper coaster (Diamondback), flying coaster (Firehawk), multi-launch family/midlevel coaster that is also a bit of a terrain coaster (BLSC), plus a wide selection of family coasters in Planet Snoopy with 3/4 (depending on if you count Surf Dog as one or not). With these we have a fantastic lineup already. Yes there is room for new additions to give more selections, like wing-riders or giga coaster). But plenty to choose from already.

REally any manufacturer that makes a spinning teacups or Tilt-A-Whirl style ride could be sought to build one at KI and give it a barrel theme to fit into Oktoberfest. Always thought this would be great to bring back. Would add another attraction to that area of the park for cheap and be another flat ride that is a style we no longer have at the park either.

Most Important Part of a Coaster?
This is my feeling as well. Theming is what puts great rides over the top and can turn a mediocre or stock ride into something great. All the elements are important but theming on any ride or a park in general is what gives it that special feel. EVen small amounts of theming can be a big effect as we see with Banshee. The queue and station have some theming to them but nothing over the top but even that little bit enhances the ride greatly. And jsut look at Universal and Disney. They are major worldwide destinations seeing millions upon millions of people each year but they don't have anything huge or record breaking but people flock to them for teh experience they get with all of the theming.

Coaster conversions
I think SoB would have been perfect for the RMC treatment but it's gone. Not familiar with all the other Cedar Fair parks outside Cedar Point but think Mean Streak would be great too. None of the ones at KI should be touched though.

Next New Ride?
I agree. With what they have been doing at the other parks I think a 2016 Soak City expansion is the ost likely, and one fo teh most needed, things at the park. It defitnely seems too soon after Banshee for a major investment like a Trioech coaster/dark ride. I could potentially see that getting built for 2017 and think either the oldy Crypt building or the Action Theater are the most likely spots as they are large buildings ready to go. Action Theater would be good for a flat dark ride and Crypt for one like Wonder Mountain's Guardian. I don't see what the butcher would hae against that spot though as it does not interfere with any butcher shops in the area. Think 2019 would be a better year for a new wooden coaser if they did one though as this would be both the 40th Anniversary of The Beast and the 10th Anniversary fo SoB's closing. Perfect time to revive Son of Beast in some fashion. Maybe a custom RMC type hybrid coaster for it's rebirth. Also I agree with upstop that a extaTERRORestrial Alein Encounter type attraction would be perfect in X-Base. Add that, an extreme flat ride like a Sledgehammer or Screamin' Swing, bathrooms and a food stand woudl round out that section nicely and make it a great full area unto itself.

Next New Ride?
Be cool to see some fountain upgrade that incorporates some sort of water and light show. And some TLC on Boo Blasters or new dark ride would be welcome too. That said we are getting some work on International Street this year as well as the Planet Snoopy additions.

Remnants of past attractions
I think the gargoyle ould actually be great for Banshee with having the Church station

Boo Blasters on Boo Hill TLC
YEa would have to get licensing permission for it but considering the entire kids area is themed to Peanuts I don't see why they wouldn't be allowed. Not like they'd be picking a random IP to use but one that they use all the time across the Cedar Fair brand.
-
Next New Ride?
I agree. Between Racer, Beast, and Woodstock Express we have some good classic woodies. There's many parks that don't have what we do even. Would love to see a hybrid coaster though. Think one could go great back in Rivertown. Would like to see a giga sometime too but think there are other types that would be better first, as many gigas are similar to hypers. But if they did a giga that was more than just a taller Diamondback then yea I'd be all for it. Still rather see some more dark rides and flat rides first though too to give more stuff.

Boo Blasters on Boo Hill TLC
Yea probably just a matter of time before we get something from Triotech and Boo Blasters location would be the most likely. But I'm still hoping that they put something with them in a new location like the old Crypt Building or Action Theatre, and then convert Boo Blasters into a Peanuts dark ride. Then we'll have two dark rides in the park and Peanuts can be kept to the simple cutouts or cheap figures and still look decent.

Boo Blasters on Boo Hill TLC
I don't recall a mouse chasing a cat from Phantom Theater but I do remember the one that popped up from behind a chest or something. That one is used as a prop in the Mouse Trap scene in the Board to Death maze at Halloween Haunt.

Haunt show
Yea I don't see it going anywhere while Spirit Song is around. They have plenty of other land to develop and build on, plus other defunct buildings that are just used for storage or haunts. Timberwolf might not be used very much but it still brings in some revenue and crowds.

Universal TR (Coming Soon) - Questions Linger
Glad to hear that as I haven't been at that time but am going down there myself the last week of February.

Boo Blasters on Boo Hill TLC
I agree full y with removing the tvs and adding the music back in to the queue to set the atmosphere, and remove the boards from the busts. But I don't think the Phantom Theatre animatronics would look good with the scenery already in the ride. They have a completely different aesthetic and would stick out greatly. Just fixing the current animatronics/effects and making sure the guns work would go a long way though. Though think upstop's suggestion of a Curse of Darkastle type ride for Phantom Theatre would be great. I would keep Boo Blasters though as is, maybe give it a facelift and a Peanuts theme to fit in with the surrounding area. But putting in a new dark ride in the action theatre would be a great addition.

Yea I can't remember the place before Subway there that well but I remember Graeters going in. Wouldn't mind seeing the Subways replaced with new food options unique to the park. Make it a general deli type food stand to still allow the healthier food options that Subway offered.

Carowinds will be investing $50 million in the next three years!
This coaster looks great. Love to have something like this come to KI eventually

Universal TR (Coming Soon) - Questions Linger
I'd say as far as the park hopper option goes, if you can purchase an upgrade at the gate I'd get it your third day to check out the rides you like at both parks before you leave. If you are just wanting to re-ride some rides the last day there are some great ones at both parts that you can easily get to them all in one day. I went in the middle of summer when the first Harry Potter stuff opened and made it around both parks in a day, so sure in winter you should be able to. I would definitely check out the queues for both Harry Potter attractions, but aside from those if the lines are long for something definitely try the single rider lines. They can save a ton fo time and all the major rides have one. Some are hidden so ask a worker if you can't find it. Last time I went my friend and I used them all the time and we were on most rides in 5-10 minutes while the standby lines would be up to 2 hours or so.

An Interesting Idea
Agree that something needs to be done with it. It is a nice area that is just wasted by being used as a designated smoking area. The café area would be a good idea or a flat ride but think that might take away some of the beauty of the area when there is plenty of open field space next to BLSC or by the turnaround on the brake run of Diamondback to develop flat rides around the base of the Eiffel Tower.

Favorite Kings Island Map
I like the look of that one. I don't mind the overall loo of the maps now just not a fan of the exaggerated hills on some of the coasters.

YEa I'd guess the new in park tech. Probably the touch screen maps and the GPS map on their app. I don't see what all you could really change from the print map to make it easier to follow than it is now, aside fomr making it more realistic drawing buts don't think that's going to have much change on finding your way around.
