Which Ride Will Leave Next
As Terpy liked to say: Line length is not an indicator of popularity. To add my own two cents: Why? Assuming that each train or cycle is mostly full, there is functionally no difference in total ridership regardless of whether the ride typically has a 5-minute wait or a 45-minute wait, because the number of trains/cycles dispatched per hour is not affected by the line length. The same number of people are riding it either way; the only difference is that many people think one ride isn't worth losing more than 5 minutes in line, while many people think the other ride is worth losing 45 minutes of their day. But that too, is not an indicator of whether the ride should be removed, else all small rides would be removed and replaced with shiny new record-breaking roller coasters. Each ride fills a need in the park. The Bat, in combination with The Racer, serves as the "next step" for a 48" child after conquering Adventure Express and Backlot Stunt Coaster. Congo Falls also helps fill a hole: it and White Water Canyon are the only two rides with a 46" requirement, so it gives those who have conquered everything in Planet Snoopy (where the biggest height requirement is 44") something new to do while waiting to hit that magical height of 48". Essentially, some people here are trying to make it as simple as "this has short lines and thus isn't popular, so let's get rid of it", but that is wrong on multiple levels. There are many things to take into consideration here.

Kings Island 2017 Discussion Thread
Before the software upgrade, you could click a particular link in the main header to go back to the main site. Since the upgrade, there is no link back to the main site whatsoever that I can find. This. I have the forums directly bookmarked and never look at the main site unless someone specifically says "hey look at this".

I'm still seeing the same as the screenshot in JubJester's last post above. I've also seen these broken images before, but never had time to report it before I forgot about it.

Kings Island 2017 Discussion Thread
What I'm offended at is not that they weren't using all the tables (I understand that given the lack of servers). My beef is with the fact they only had two servers to begin with. They told us that multiple people called off, and I assume that either they couldn't get anyone to come in, or they didn't even try to call someone in. Either way, that reeks of mismanagement. In the latter case, directly, in the sense that the manager should have called other workers to try to get someone to come in. In the former case, the fact that the employees didn't give enough of a **** to bother coming in and earning a paycheck on the last day of operation suggests that they just wanted to get the hell out of there, which in turn suggests that the place was being managed in such a way that the employees didn't feel valued. Take it from someone currently working for barely over minimum wage at Kroger: There's a lot of things about my job that I hate, but I still have a smile on my face while serving customers and put effort into doing a good job, because our managers treat us well and appreciate us for what we do. Would I be the same way if management was rude to us and treated us as if we were nothing more than tools that drained their profits every payday? Hell no. I'd get the **** out of there as fast as I could. Bottom line: style of management has a HUGE impact on the employees' attitude toward their jobs. On closing day 2015, not only did that show in an ugly way, but that experience, along with others, suggests to me that (mis)management is the root cause of the food service issues. Don't blame it on the front line workers; blame it on management.

The Giga Speculation Thread
To me, "hyper" and "giga" are more general styles of coasters than references to their heights. Hypers tend to be tall coasters with lots of airtime and are often out-and-back. Gigas are also tall coasters with a little airtime, but rely more on low-to-the-ground pure speed than airtime for the thrill factor. It's just a happy coincidence that the hyper style tends to work best with coasters in the 2xx-foot range, and gigas tend to work best in the 3xx-foot range. But if someone built a 272-foot-tall coaster similar to Millennium Force, I'd call it a giga.

Virtual reality rides set to invade theme parks in 2016
Off-topic: That headline is obnoxiously long, and so is the URL. Good googly moogly.

Kings Island 2017 Discussion Thread
Yeah. I had the meal plan in 2014 and 2015, but the service and food quality went downhill fast. The final straw for me was when our group attempted to eat at Reds Grille on closing day of 2015, only to be told that it would be a multi-hour wait despite the fact that three-quarters of the tables were unoccupied, because they only had two servers and so they were only using about a dozen tables. Financial issues prevented me from having a pass at all in 2016, but for 2017, I deliberately chose to get my pass without the dining plan. I will be adding on the drink plan on or around opening day, but no dining plan here. Unless I'm with a group that wants to eat in the park, I intend to leave the park and visit one of the many restaurants nearby that offer higher-quality food and better service for cheaper prices.

The Vortex Poll
See it? The loops are the eyes, the track between them is the mouth. And you could say that the corkscrew between them is the nose.
-
Mystic Timbers Marketing Day Contest
I think you underestimate enthusiasts. One user on here (mostly inactive these days) has previously referred to Vortex as his girlfriend, and that's just one example.

Matt's wacky trips!
Did you mean Lightning Run? Thunder Run cannot run with more than one train due to the lack of a transfer track.

The Giga Speculation Thread
While this is how ride ops refer to seats, it is generally not how I typically hear enthusiasts refer to them. I still mostly hear enthusiasts say car-row on Diamondback.

Cedar Point (+ Other CF Parks) May Change All Season Drink Program
CP Food Blog has the details on the announcement: http://cpfoodblog.com/2017-cedar-point-season-pass-drink-program/ Notably, there is a 15-minute wait time between scans on the season pass program, as opposed to 5 minutes between scans with the bottle. I suppose this is necessary to limit abuse (one person with the plan getting drinks for the whole family).

The Giga Speculation Thread
7-1, in this case, refers to the first ROW of the 7th car, not to a specific seat. Enthusiasts usually refer to car-row numbers, or merely row numbers, when discussing coasters with 2 seats per row, and specify "left side" or "right side" in the rare case that it makes a difference. Only on coasters with 4 seats per row (e.g. Banshee) should you assume that a #-# designation is referring to row-seat.

Coney has Special Announcement Coming March 2
^ How would that even work?!

The Giga Speculation Thread
I think you underestimate 1) the sheer amount of space The Beast takes up (its second hill is right behind Action Theater, and the right-hand turn after that is behind Blue Racer's turnaround), and 2) how undulating the terrain is. See this screenshot, to which I have added indications of approximate elevation above mean sea level (screenshot and elevations both sourced from Google Earth). The terrain has such steep hills that it is mostly unusable.

Banana Splits at Kings Island - 1972
Thank you for taking the time to post this! In the 6+ years I've been on these forums, that may be the first good picture I've seen of Bavarian Beetle. Glad to see you back!

The Giga Speculation Thread
Most of them. Vortex is a bit of an odd one in that regard. Some of us love it and don't ever want to see it removed. And some of us would rejoice if Kings Island announced tomorrow that this was its final season. I personally fall into the latter category.

The Great Lake Escape and Steel City Adventures- silver2005's Kennywood, CP and MIA TR
The only rollbacks I've seen with riders were two trains right after a one-hour shutdown for rain. They were the fourth and fifth trains sent out with riders, IIRC, but it could happen to any of the first few. So try to be on one of the first few trains after a lengthy shutdown. This may require being in line before the ride shuts down and then waiting out the delay in the station, because from my experience, many people will wait out delays on TTD (much more so than other rides) because of the hopes of getting a rollback.

Mystic Timbers Construction Progress
Okay, so I admit that I did not follow the speculation leading up to the announcement very well, and I've done an even worse job of following the construction progress. Is it wrong to be as active as I am on this site and still not be addicted to the park? Anyway, I digress. The point is that these photos are the first time that I have truly gotten a good understanding of exactly how Mystic Timbers is laid out and how it fits in with the surrounding area. I did not realize how close the back end of it comes to the train tracks and train storage shed. To borrow a phrase from silver2005, good googly moogly. The train ride will never be the same again.

Meal Deals, and meal deals
This is my plan for the 2017 season. I've essentially given up on KI's food service. I didn't get the dining plan because of the terrible food service I experienced in 2015 and heard reports about in 2016, so between the service and the ridiculously high prices, I intend to go elsewhere for my meals this season.

"Man charged with raping 13-year-old at Kings Island"
It was Halloween Haunt "entertainment" for two years (I think 2011 and 2012, but I might be off by one year). They had a WWE-style ring set up in the center of the Festhaus with four "shows" every night by the Half Pint Brawlers group. I made a point of staying away; when my group chose to watch one of the shows, I chose to leave them and go off on my own for half an hour and meet back up with them afterward.
