  1. My wife and I truly enjoyed the Universal locker system. The lockers were free to use for about what the wait time of the ride was. It was great to throw things in, hop on a ride hop off and get our stuff. You could pay to keep the locker longer. When we went to CP we hid our drink cup on top of the lockers. Families bring many things into a park. Families bring in cameras, can pick up drinks, buy photos, etc. You have to remember that those of us on here are probably not the key demographic for locker rental. The people who "know" how to pack for a day of KI.
  2. I have been to Dick's once and it was in Cleveland before it closed. I was a youngin but I still remember it. Not many other places I remember eating at on vacations when I was a kiddo. Most likely we will probably go as a fun nostalgia thing with the family but I cant see my family going often. From what I remember it was fun to eat their. Cant comment about the food. I have learned that YELP and other review sites are good but not great. Same thing with reviews on products. Most people who comment on something are either super upset or super happy about an experience. Those that are in the middle rarely comment and recommend dont recommend a place..
  3. I forgot just how large that campground was. My family only camped there once but it was memorable. I caught my pants on fire. Our neighbor's kid had a big accident and then proceeded to go again when he was being changed in the back of his mom's car. We got caught in an awful awful storm. Tornado sirens went off. We had camped under a big tree right next to Top Gun (as it was called at the time). Sometime in the middle of the storm we heard the ride's lift hill go on and it was on and off for most of the storm. Unforgettable..... Haha but yea sorry to hi-jack but I dont know dates for painting...
  4. White Castles at some locations has the good ice...
  5. The people I see this hurting are the waiters/waitresses... A table of 4 all getting Cokes, is about 6-8$ which equals about a $2 tip at 20%.... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  6. Right wrong or indifferent, the way cities are going and long distance traveling is going + the cost of fuel and car maintenance, something has to give. If enough people demand a cheap and easy to use public transportation it will happen. But the breaking point has to happen. Is it fuel running at 3.30-3.75 a gallon? Is it the hour drive from 275 to downtown anytime between the hours of 4-7? Is it people living farther and farther from their places of work? (Personally, I drive 56 minutes to work in no traffic. If there was a train followed by a bus/street car exchange that went to where I work/close enough I would do it.) I love my car. I love driving. However, I would drive to a train-station followed by a bus ride if it meant I could sleep an extra 60-90 minutes before work. Yes I would be okay with a longer commute if it meant that I could get work done, relax, etc. Is the street car the perfect plan? I would say no. Mainly because, personally, I would have started with a phase that got people from outside of downtown into the city (Clifton, east-side, or west-side). But it is a start. With the talk that sooner than later Cincinnati and Dayton will be becoming a 1 large metro area, a push in this area could be more important. I am waiting for the day that Cincinnati and Hamilton county announce that they are doing something similar to Columbus and Franklin county. One big tax base stretching from county line to county line. Something needs to happen because most people in the area now live outside of the City Limits.....
  7. Thats a good point that I never once thought about. Lunsford is a Dem. If a republican is elected and he/she doesnt want to fund just because of he said/she said politics and pulls funding what will happen then...
  8. Unfortunately, in today's day and age, the form of your media presentation matters just the same or more than what is being said. Blackfish showed a movie with great sound bites. Things that can be played over and over and over. Easily used on tv with cover video, etc. Compared to Sea World issuing a written statement on its web site. This would be read by people wanting to read it. How different would that message had been had it been read by Jim Atchison (Sea World CEO) During the reading they have Jim Positioned in front of an Orca or any other animal. They then show video of the care and protection of the animals. Maybe add in a quick quote from a well respected conservationist stating that Sea World is doing more good than harm. I think it would have hit much harder and better than the statement on the web site.
  9. I was there about 3-4 years ago and the area looked like a dying city. I believe on the road toward GL from the Kent area, about 10 mins outside of Kent is a great outlet mall. Not to mention the outlet mall off of 71.... Even an outlet mall wouldnt do well there because of the lack of direct access....
  10. Oh thats nice of them. At least they didnt have to work an hour or more to pay for parking each day....
  11. I think that question may never be answered or believed if it is answered. The facts are: CF bought the property. CF closed down the dry side of the park. CF shipped out those rides. When I lived at Kent I enjoyed driving out there to see the area, legally from the road. There is absolutely nothing bringing crowds into that area. With no traffic it took a good time to just drive out there. Another outlet mall/kohls/mall wouldnt bring many non-locals to the area.
  12. Honestly, I could see the parking being the thing that hurts this park the most. Buy a season pass for 60 bucks and attend as many times as you want. However, as someone on here mentioned, the fair board in the past sold a parking pass that paid for itself in 8 visits? Even if parking is only $5 (I know when I went down for a convention center thing, parking was closer to $8) thats 40$ per month X 3 months of operation (June July August) thats an additional $120.... Not the lack of rides/entertainment. Nor the limited advertisements or bad history of the park. Just a few people who are more interested in making money off of their parking than seeing something take off...
  13. Its about the money. Saying "hey all animals are mean to each other, either in the wild or captivity" would bring in no shock value. Its the same thing that I could tell you this. "If you asperate (food/liquid down your trachea/windpipe) you are more likely to get pneumonia and could eventually die. " Now how does the same truth sound " At night, most to all people will asperate while they sleep (natural saliva/mucus), but if you take time for Oral care (brushing of the teeth, mouthwash, etc) you should be a-ok. Also, most young people have healthy enough immune system, you can asperate food and be fine as well. However, if you asperate (food/liquid down your trachea/windpipe) you are more likely to get pneumonia and could eventually die." Same truth, one is boring and common sense, the other is shocking and makes you not want to put any food/liquid into your lungs. Same with these animal docs. If you think about it, of course all animals fight for dominance. But if you put it under a microscope and only look at a small subset, then it looks bad. The director admits she is not an activist just a mom with a question and an ability to make a compelling documentary. I would be interested if any of her early contacts or producers either had an axe to grind with SW or was against any zoos, etc. If this was the case its very easy to help create a mood with a movie. Honestly, to be a documentary maker, you only need to be able to ask a good question and find the answer. To be a good documentary maker, you need to be able to keep an honest and open discussion while getting information from both sides....
  14. However, with no viable mode of transportation down town other than my car, I dont think I will be using the street car just yet. Mainly because when I go downtown, its to hit a game and grab food next door. However, I could possibly see myself take a street car from the banks to OTR eventually...
  15. Im confused of why people are upset that people in power made a choice that best suits the city. They stated the street car would get killed. However, looking at the finances it made more sense to finish than to spend 85% of the cost to stop it. If it becomes to expensive you can just park the trolleys...
  16. eh, I feel that every one should stand for something. Some people should choose their "hills to die on" a bit more judiciously, but at leas they stand for something and can say they do it. As for musicians that do it, I think it can help them cross over from bubble gum pop to music with a meaning. If you want to feel bad about the flow of current musicians moving into politics... here is a top 50 of current political musicians/artists... http://static.echonest.com/Top50PoliticalArtists/ (number 1 is Nicki Minaj, while Bob Dylan doesnt crack the top 25, so take that into consideration) Top 10 political songs of 2013 http://www.msnbc.com/the-cycle/top-10-political-songs-2013 Beyonce and Lil Wayne? Top 20 of all time? http://www.newstatesman.com/music/2010/03/top-20-political-songs Or my personal favorite, due to my time at Kent State and getting to visit the spots where the 4 died and seeing the memorial in person... Sorry for high-jacking the thread... but if Heart or Willie Nelson can write an anti Killer Whale Captivity song that is as good as OHIO then I will give credit where credit is due...
  17. now its probably a dumb question, but why cant these animals ever be rehabbed to be taken out into the wild? I realize that one generation wouldnt do it, but could they possibly take a large sea pen with a decent to nice natural flow in from the ocean, and match a zoo female with a captured male? If they were to breed could the baby be born with more natural instincts? Maybe bring in other fish/prey for them to learn to hunt?
  18. Maybe Im late to this party or not... Sea World has a response. http://www.cnn.com/2013/12/20/us/seaworld-newspaper-ads/ Personally, I think any time an animal is in any type of enclosure it is stressful on the animals. This is how I feel about all enclosures, Sea World, sea pens, The Wilds, The Cincinnati Zoo, the Columbus Zoo, etc. But does this mean we should eliminate them? No! These offer opportunities for education and saving of these animals. If we can preserve animal species or inspire a young child who goes on to be the next Jane G. then I say then it is all worth it. As for the Sea World event, I do not know enough about what is real and what is exaggerated. I will say this, Sea World, IMHO, has done more good than bad. This could be just by raising awareness in young children and adults alike. ...
  19. depends on how you measure time. If you mean a 45 minute drive by car versus a 55 minute by train/light rail. 45 minutes of driving, getting upset at other drivers, watching out for accidents, eating while trying not to crash etc.... or 55 minutes by light rail where you can read your book, eat food, play games, comment on topics such as this. If there was such a service for light rail that could connect down town cincy with dayton, indy, cleveland, and columbus, I think it would be a huge hit. Not to mention if there were the correct coordination of services in those areas, taxis, buses, street car. People dont ride the Grayhound bus, because its slow and cramped. Light rail trains are a bunch better, not nearly as cramped.
  20. I guess I shouldn't say the main hub for Metro but use it as a stop? To me that would be a great spot for a tank to the levy run or metro to the burbs following a reds/bengals game.... Why don't we have light rail again? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  21. you mean bus parking lot and concert venue? During Bengals games they park busses in it. They just recently had a concert. At any given time there are cars parked in front of the entrance near Paul Brown stadium.... It was built to have a street car/light rail work in side of it. I never understood why Metro does not use it as a main or semi main hub for all of the bus traffic that could go to the Banks..... same with Tank.....
  22. I like this. I think the more people you can get to go down town, the less crime you will have. The bigger police presence has also helped. I wish the Metro Moves would have passed at the Ballot Box a few years ago. I live out in fairfield/west chester area. I would take a bus downtown but service stops from my area around 6/7 and there is no direct way home. If the light rail were to have been built, I could park out here take the train into the city, watch a reds game, hop on the street car to hit the bars, take the street car back to the transit center, then take the train back to my car, etc...
  23. Well that little road running from Cincinnati to Columbus and from there to Cleveland was a nice boost to KI. Makes it easy to manufactor word of mouth when literally thousands of people drive by every hour. Even in the 70s this was part of it. Personally, unless a catastrophic failure of financial or physical type, KI could be open for years, just thanks to the millions of people who drive by less than 500 feet (hyperbole) from the sign... How does 2015 and 2016 look to be downward? Unlike Hard Rock Park, Kentucky Kingdom has already set in stone improvements to the park that will be made. Both T2 and Twisted Twins will be returning better than ever. Hard Rock Park opened, but never showed signs of progressing, they were just trying to get by with what they had. Well, I can say that for sure, if funding is available, Im going to finish my basement and invest the 10K starting in the fall of 2014. But thats no more in stone than T2 and the twins returning. To quote Terpy..... Watch what they do not what they say.... Currently, lots of talk has happened... Currently, areas have been cleared, paint has been applied, I hope, for all parties, that they are able to continue what they say they will do. I wont count on lightening till January construction...
  24. I have to say that CF is doing a lot for KD. They are bringing back a lot that made the park fun for all family members new and old. If I would make a list of KI things to bring back... Traveling Band Floral Clock TRAMS, TRAMS, TRAMS what else?
