  1. i do not work at any of the parks just an average joe. I thought they were whales until this incident when all of the articles called them Orcas. I then looked it up and found out they are closely related to dolphins. So I thought we should be calling it by the right name. No harm no foul, it would be like calling zebras - horses..... different animal even though they may be similar, so no harm no foul. Just trying my best to make someone smarter each day (and is that such a bad thing?) So today's lesson is complete, a Killer Whale is actually a real big dolphin named that way because it can kill whales..... I edited my original post to show I did not mean it in an angry or spiteful or even rude way. But hey if someone on here would go and mislabel a roller-coaster brand that person would be put up on a wooden post..... BTW I am changing that quote from my previous post. I had quoted the whole article but I guess it got shortened and it got shortened to the wrong part of the story I wanted to pin point, which was why Tilly can not be put back into the wild because he was taken from his pod before he could learn to hunt correctly.....
  2. they could open the park early too....
  3. good luck on the dream..... So it seems in the last article posted the training aspects will change or at least the interactions will change. As some have pointed out it was a freak accident but how can you change to avoid future ones? It seems this orca (can we stop calling them whales? The killer whale (Orcinus orca), commonly referred to as the orca and, less commonly, blackfish, is the largest species of the dolphin family.) grabbed the trainers braid and pulled her in. Maybe not have braided long hair? But overall there is not much I see from an outside that could be different other than to pull the show. Now this is a decent opinion, even if it comes from FOXNews.com. Talks about why Killer Whales like Tilly cant be returned to the wild.... http://www.foxnews.c...dawn-brancheau/ Just in case you dont like clicking on the links EDIT: Fixed the quote, and the "stop calling them whales" is a nice request not an angry demand
  4. If you play with Spell check and type in dowtome the top choice is downtime and the second choice? downtown...... terpy for the win?
  5. very true terp. But people are just as surprised when their neighbor kills someone as they are when there dog bites someone or a killer whale, which thanks to the many articles I have learned is actually a big dolphin, kills people..... Has PETA jumped on this as a reason to let the animals free yet?
  6. Agreed Brown. The Beast is the same ol beast but when everything else is rougher/wilder/faster The Beast is not as wild. Its all relative. But a tunnel structure could survive if they just anchored it away from the ride. I mean if they just built the structure into the ground, but to build such a structure would mean the ride will be running and at this point very few people know if that will happen for sure.
  7. I had a wolf hybrid a few years ago, and let me tell ya they are very intelligent animals and would do things that were out of the ability of a normal dog. We had ground rules, such as leaving him alone while eating because of the natural instinct of fighting over food. I had him at the vet once, and he was grumpy and nipping at me, yet a child came up smacked him on the nose, and he kissed her. The child giggled and walked away. It's as if he knew this little child didn't know any better so he showed restraint-and that was one of the surprising incidents I witnessed over the years. At the age of 9 he became unpredictable with what I believed was dementia, since I could roll over in bed and he would snap and growl at me-it became apparent he was a liability so I had him put down. He also had some sort of skin disease that last year and would whine sometimes for no reason. Point of all this-animals are animals and you can never tell what they are going to do. I have heard two different stories of hybrids dragging babies to safety and turning around and biting adults. Go figure-I still wonder what makes them tick. Years of evolution. But winshawne you seen first hand the "battle" of nature versus nurture first hand. But again these things are animals (domesticated or wild) and they do not behave like humans, no matter how hard we want them to. Just a sad day, and sorry you have to put your wolf hybrid down. My family owned a wolf/Sheppard/husky mix. Beautiful dog but it was so old it was just grumpy.......
  8. marlfox i understand what you are saying but unless you were there or there was some video no one knows for 100 % phantom of that story I think this is the scariest quote It could happen anywhere (life being ended) but its just a scary thought and these people do it all the time. But if you love something it never seems as dangerous
  9. heard through my sources (former tv people) that there may be video released of the incident. Not sure how I feel about that one.... EDIT: they are still current tv people, I knew them from my previous life as a former tv person
  10. http://www.channel3000.com/news/22660616/detail.html
  11. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/ap_on_re_us/us_seaworld_death ^^^Just another view^^^. With the guy who dove/fell/was drug into the tank after hours, no one knows for sure. The coroner said he died of hypothermia but was found with scratches on his body. Since there was no video of that guy no one knows for sure. This is just a sad story but these are wild animals. Personal pets turn on owners so why are we surprised animals who have not been domesticated (wolves, bears, alligators, horses, whales) turn on their owners. Sad day thoughts and prayers to the sea world family.
  12. well blueprints are not a sacred gold item. I mean even mister brady lost his at KI.....
  13. Well what if CF does not want to operate SOB in fear that another lawsuit happens. It could put a future owner in jeopardy, or not. Agreed a map will be released but maybe the park wants to have a big media day. I am beginning to think this thread is showing that our society is getting to a point where we no longer want to wait for an answer. It could be the park has no idea what they want to do with the ride. They may want to open it but worry about the ride. They may want to close it but think it has potential. I would not want to be a person left in charge of deciding the fate of this ride or any ride for that matter....
  14. and it says preliminary.... which means that its not the final list just yet. As people have said they are not just going to slip it in on a sub-part of a website (which is barely updated as is ) telling the future of the biggest wooden coaster in the world......... we will all know in due time
  15. the picture would have been better with Snoopy folding a shovel and clearing a space with tag: Snoopy is working hard to get KI ready for you ...
  16. I think season pass holders could get 12 of the 15, 14 if they had a kid (reptar and lil bills giggle).
  17. well if continues to snow like this, then this is what the inside of the park will look like I believe that may be on the way to boomerang bay but not for sure....
  18. Yeah SOB does not "feel" fast to me, out of control maybe but just not fast. A coaster that seems fast (out of the ones I have ridden) alpengeist, beast (at night) the helix just is crazy for me, and (you all will laugh) the final turn of top gun

I could see The Beast being Bad Company.......
  20. Thank you kind sir. For some reason my brain could not grasp the original comments in your first post.
  21. Again terp sorry for being a pain but you have to restate that so my brain can understand it. It may be because its late or because I am watching the olympics but how does having the original wood help in re-engineering it at a different site? If you are buying to rebuild a ride elsewhere wouldnt you just need the engineering plans? Not playing dumb just trying to figure this out.... Would this scenario be the same idea if a wooden roller coaster burns to the ground and the park rebuilds it? Same ride right?
  22. Oh I understand this scenario is still playing out and is different, but as you said most of the wood is replaced when a coaster is moved. If the wood is replaced why would the buyer want the original wood, or is it that the old owner does not want a bunch of old wood laying around?
  23. So essentially all they are paying for is the name? (and design?)
  24. so wait from reading one of the articles, they will use some of the original wood to build patios? Since the wood would not be re-used, or most of it, how is that still the same ride? Why wouldnt the buyer pay for the "name and design" take the trains and just get rid of the original wood? Forgive this dumb question but do many wood coasters make the move from one park to the other with all of the original wood? Now CoasterBuzz says the rest was demolished http://coasterbuzz.com/news/11550/zippin-pippin-demolished-after-partial-collapse.aspx
  25. haha Im way too mellow and my apologies if it sounded like a threat. I wouldnt do anything but family members of people I work around would do more than threaten.... just a little pet peeve of mine. People are way too smart to show a lack of education by calling anything "Gay" or "retarded"....... ug..... going to go calm down now... back to the topic...
