The temperature effects wood coasters too. It's held together by steel nails/bolts/whatever which, on a small scale, either push or pull the wood together or apart. On a large scale, that can determine how turbulent the ride will be. Good post, but none of this is exactly groundbreaking.

Well, the staffs of both pages decided to have a 2 on 2 challenge on the racing slides. After several false starts (if you've ridden them yet, you know why that happens), PKIU's "Rocket" SoBTom came out ahead. Better luck next time! I was just watching the news and they were talking about a new guidbook to attractions in the USA, and PKI tied with CP for best amusement park. Newport on the Levee was the best shopping center.

I have noticed that it has been closed a lot in the past few weeks. It's just simply out of place being in Nick Central and not in CDBB. Of course, foul weather and a lack of employees has been a problem with PKI this season, so that's probably the reasoning.

I can't, in my wildest dreams, imagine getting whiplash from Taz. Are you sure you didn't have a preexisting condition? Regardless, I'm glad to hear that you're ok now. So the park wasn't that crowded Saturday? I was over in CDBB taking my half of our 167 pic update, and there were insane amounts of people there. I thought maybe it was just from the novelty of BB, but I looked into the parkinglot and it was just a sea of cars! I originally intended to ride some stuff, take the pics, and head over to the dry park, but instead I rode the new attractions, took a few hundred pics, and when my camera ran out of batteries, I went home. lol Regards, Ryan

I am fairly certain that all of the water in the wet attractions is treated in some way. For example, if WWC wasn't treated, then all of the runoff from the land, which would include animal feces would all just be sitting there. On some days, that would be still water. This would be a bacteria haven. It would be a good way to get hepatitus or cholera. Ever gotten creek water on a bleeding cut and not had the chance to wash it off? More than likely it got infected. Fortunately, the human body (when healthy) has a heck of an immune system, but results could be deadly in a worse case scenario. Basically what I'm saying is that if it's not chlorinated (or treated in some way) it's probably tested daily to make sure that there isn't some kind of bacterial infestation. I'd put my money on that it's treated with chemicals, though.

^ Don't get me wrong, I don't want to play down Coney at all. Sometimes I go there just to kind of hang out and walk around. Especially before Riverbend concerts. Plus they have a couple of carnie-style that you can't find at PKI. A lot of fun on a day when you feel like having a relaxing time at a park and it seems like PKI will be crowded. It's especially good for corperate picnics and summer conventions. Anyway, back on topic. It would be cool if the did theme AZ a little more. Maybe have some realistic statues throughout the area that looked like studio lights and stuff like that.... I just think they went in the right direction the first year and then just kind of stopped. I still really do like the area, though. Ryan

Coney Island is not defunct, it is still a park, CM and IS shuold stay the same. Although Coney Island does exist where Old Coney once did, it's still not the same park. I'm actually basing this information off of a page that is an archive of almost all defunct parks in the USA. Click here to check it out. Some of the info and pics are really neat.

I have no doubt that they'll revamp Coney and slap a new name on it whenever they feel it is necessary.

I totally disagree. Coney Mall is a great tribute to the late Coney Island. It even has some of Coney's old rides, and carries the same look and feel as the now defunct park did. Wouldn't sacrifice it for anything. ::Moved to battle room::

Doubt it -- the reason why the closed the park was because of the floods more or less destroying the park every few years. I've seen a video on the history of Coney Island. It was totally amazing... talk about the park that will not die. They showed the footage of the last day that Coney was opened. They had a big fireworks display and then at the end, lit up a sign that said "See you at Kings Island in '72!" Then it showed PKI's first day in operation.... totally amazing. They had full fledge marching bands with baton (sp?) and the whole works all the way down I-Street. Probably thousands of them.

I thought it was like a 1600% improvement over Water Works. Got there early on Saturday, had to wait in line quite a while but still got to do everything. Spent the rest of the day shooting a TON of pics for the other site. I had fun. Can't wait until the novelty wears off so I can go and not feel like I'm in a mosh pit.

Just watched it myself. Some of it looks kind of cheezy.. I think it's a simulation.
