I never rode The Bat, but my grandmother did. She said they were at the park, and The Bat was down most of the day. They decided to see if it was running and it was. They got in line, and rode it. She said she enjoyed the ride and wanted to ride it again, but they had closed it. By the next year it was gone.

Depends on your definition of what rough is. I’m having a milestone birthday this upcoming week, and really don’t find any of the coasters rough. Racer and The Beast can be rough if you sit on the wheels. Vortex can be rough if you don’t watch the track for its changes. Be a smart rider, and you’ll do well.

After five days now, and a trip to KI Sunday I am very excited to see the removal of Vortex. The time has come, and to see which direction Cedar Fair takes KI is exciting. So far under their leadership we have received huge rides. Diamondback, Banshee, Mystic Timbers, and now Orion. Kings Island has an opportunity to make an dead area of the park alive again. It started with the Antique Cars, and will continue with a new ride in The Vortex vacant land. Too many types to speculate towards, but Copperhead Strike and Maverick are two of the most fun rides I have ever ridden. Good bye to the old and decaying hello to the new and shiny! I have never been more excited for the future of KI. Orion is going to be amazing , and whatever replaces Vortex will be amazing as well.

I expect Top Thrill and Magnum to get a real hard look for removal in the next couple of years by Cedar Fair.

That’s why I wrote they have a huge opportunity. Cedar Fair has a plan. They have yet to disappoint me with the direction of Kings Island.

Sorry for a second post, but this opens up a huge opportunity for the 50th anniversary of Kings Island to open a great new coaster. Hoping for something like Maverick or Copperhead Strike.

Interesting news to wake up to. To be upset or sad over a 33 year old steel coaster being removed is silly. What used to be a must ride for me and my daughters every trip turn into only three rides all season, and we’ve been 46 times this year. In our trips we saw The Vortex stuck or having maintenance issues many times. One day we waited at Juke Box received our meal, ate our meal, and watched for awhile as The Vortex was stuck on MCBR. That was death blow for my kids never to ride it again. I rode it for the last time Labor Day weekend. Worst ride in my 25 years of riding. The Vortex was the most intimidating coaster I ever saw as a kid. It was the only coaster I was ever scared of. May it Rest In Peace.

No, not all. I have never noticed it, and really the only roller coaster that bothers me is Magnum XL.

Thank you for the information. Mrs. Bansheelover is not one for multiple parks, fun or spending money. She will only allow us to go to Cedar Fair parks. I think the kids will enjoy Dorney, and hopefully we can do the whole dry park in 4-5 hours.

You will love Carowinds. Fury 325 is worth the drive, and the atmosphere is fun and inviting. We also enjoyed Copperhead. At Carowinds if it is not buy the ride ops let you ride again if no one is waiting for your row.

Once again the Bansheelover family is renewing their Platinum passes. Right now we are planning a huge 14 day swing through the Mid Atlantic. We plan on hitting DC, Kings Dominion, Virginia Beach up to NYC and conclude with Dorney. Does anyone have info on KD and Dorney? Must rides and eats? Then later in the summer a Northern Michigan tour is being discussed with a day at Michigan's Adventure. Any information will be appreciated.

When most of us think about Orion we think of the three stars that form a belt in our night sky. However the star that forms one of Orion's foot is called Rigel. Rigel is a massive blue supergiant star, that is the brightest in the Orion Constellation, and the seventh brightest star in the night sky. This where I find the name Orion interesting. The seventh brightest star referring to the seventh giga coaster on planet. Rigel also is seen to the naked eye as a blue or white star. The new coaster as we all know is blue and white, and the seventh giga in the world. Someone at Cedar Fair or Kings Island really did some research or really likes constellations. However if they would have named the coaster Rigel, we would all be saying what kind of name is that?!? The name Orion is really growing on me, and the more I see it it in print the more I like it. With Rigel being the seventh brightest I do not think they were trying to match the brightness of each star to a giga. They just thought it was a cool concept.

700 WLW is reporting that the coaster will be as tall as Drop Tower. We will see in a little over 12 hours.
