Seatbelts on The Beast

Featured Replies

I highly doubt they'll do anything with The Racer for a long time. They'd lose a trivia question on FunTV if they did remove it.

...which would be a tragedy beyond comprehending.

A trivia question on FunTV?

Really?

Sigh.

One of the first things Cedar Fair did at Kings Island was take out Paramount Parks quene TV system...

Few cared.

FunTV is supposed to be about sponsors and money. And SIX envy.

The trivia questions are an afterthought. And show it.

Not do anything with Racer for a long time?

You mean like paint it?

Not doing anything with it seems to have been the park strategy for quite some time. Many things lead to that conclusion.

See Thunder Road. Or Rolling Thunder. Or Twisted Twins/Twisted Sisters.

When coasters aren't painted or maintained well for a long time, bad things can happen. And do.

  • To my knowledge, Racer receive quite a bit of track work a few seasons back.    I rode The Beast this past Friday, and thought the ride was quite enjoyable.  Still one of my favorite wooden coasters.

I prefer the buzz bar and no seat belt, makes for an exciting ride. Ahh the good ol days. Sent from a signal coming out of the Vega system.

Yeah, with regard to The Racer's situation, FunTV is quite trivial.

However, when it comes to Thunder Road, the paint was stripped off, and that caused structural damage to the wood, and it was also in the way of the waterpark expansion. At an ACE event recently, Don brought up how The Racer is still structurally sound and not in the way of any expansion. That could all change, but they did give the queue house and entrance a fresh coat of paint just last week. I think the best way for The Racer to get some love and attention is if everyone rides it. It still seems to get pretty sizable lines, unlike her Carolina native sister. It still has a lot of fans, but then again, so did Thunder Road.

Can painting over the lead based paint have negative affects on the structure of The Racer? I have always wondered if the current paint restricts from a touch up. I probably wouldn't think it would, because the Eiffel Tower was also painted with lead based paint, but I could be wrong.

Peeling paint must be smoothed (typically sanded) or the new paint will not stick.

Lead based paint removal can be an expensive process--requiring containment and proper disposal.

I was being sarcastic. I was also doubting that they would remove The Racer.

I would hope that they would give it a fresh coat of paint soon. Especially the tunnels that the trains wait in before going back into the station.

People doubted that:

* Thunder Road would be removed.

* Rolling Thunder would be removed.

* Six Flags would forever alter major wooden coaster after major wooden coaster after major wooden coaster.

Don't make the mistake of thinking Racer is sacrosanct. It isn't.

It seems prudent to deal with the peeling paint sooner than later.  The more time elapses, the more peeling happens, the more more expensive it is to fix.

Lead paint can be painted over if intact.

Well since GhostRider at Knott's didn't get a RMC restoration, i personally don't think The Beast or The Racer will receive a RMC overhaul. Especially since The Beast and The Racer are much more iconic IMO. So new paint would best suite The Racer.

What Six Flags park is in close proximity to Kings Island?

Terp...who likes to ask relevant questions.

No SIX Parks are in particularly close proximity (I think SFGAm is closest?) but a former SIX park that is soon-to-be home of an RMC coaster is reasonably close.

Ah, who am I kidding, I think we can barely call that place competition in its current state.

I cannot imagine Mr. Hart paying a dime for an exclusivity clause. Plus he has said that Kings Island is not competition for his park and has largely avoided marketing in Cinci.

I believe him. Say what you will about the man, but his reputation for veracity is beyond reproach.

I bought a pass to that place for next year, and not to KI.

Queue Line TV brought to you by Skyline. (Was it Sky-Fi or Sky-vision? I honestly forget now it has been far too long.)

Yep, those were the days. Good old television that had depth, it had contrast those were the Zeniths of the TV era!*Just don't get too creeped out by the cobwebs.

On a side note, seat belts help keep my phone in my pockets as I sometimes get cluttered in my back pockets. Do I hate the seat belts? No, they are there for my protection and I appreciate them as such.

It was Chilivision.

Which somehow always reminded me of the Technicolor Yawn.

Whoever thunk up Chilivision probably didn't get a gold star.

If KK keeps adding coasters. I would then consider jumping ships myself. I really like how they change it up with their coaster installations. When I think of Kings Island's "next coaster" I go to B&M's website and scratch out what we have, and see what's left of what we will eventually get. I wished KI would think outside the Boxed track.

As an enthusiast, I certainly like the variety too, but the general public doesn't care. To them, a Coaster is a Coaster. Average Joe Schmo can't distinguish a B&M from a Chance Morgan and likely can't distinguish an RMC from a woodie (even RMC struggles with that...). All they see is a Coaster, and parks like KI have more of them.

Now, I do think KK is basically ready to be competitive with Holiday World, on the ride selection front anyway. Customer service is not yet on par with HW, but there are very few parks where it is. But in terms of rides, the two are basically competitive. Especially since, in my purely anecdotal experience, the general public seems to greatly favor steel coasters over woodies. And KK DEFINITELY has Holiday World beat in the steel Coaster arena.
