Ok, a lot of people in other topics are saying that Top Gun will be the next ride to be removed or whatever. While no one knows what the plans are for the ride, its still a great ride and runs well and is a crowd favorite, a lot of people feel KI will tear it down. I came across something interesting on RCDB and thought this would be a muche better idea than tearing down Top Gun. On an Arrow Suspended coaster in England called "Vampire" it was renovated to use Vekoma floorless trains, the same trains that are used on Vekoma suspended family coasters like Runaway Reptar. It was also renovated. I thought this was an awesome way to make a great ride even better. I could really see KI doing this: Eventually the Top Gun theme will be dropped and the trains would be changed with floorless vekoma ones and they would heavily theme the coaster. I could see them theming it to something like war of the worlds or Star Trek. I dont know if it would ever happen though. I just thought it was interesting. Heres the RCDB link: LINK

Thanks, this would save the park a lot of money and still be a great ride. I could really see them doing this. Id really like to see some great theming though around the ride, maybe some explosions or something depending on what you theme it to. They could theme it to Sky Captain but I dont think that movie did to well at the box offices.

i dont like it, if they really have to get rid of it, i will be tremendously upset, but wont really protest, the ride is great!!

Yes the current Top Gun cars are very cool but I wish they had wings on them to make them feel more like a fighter jet and I wish they would use the aircraft carrier itnerior theming!

Top gun I beleve could be a great ride if they stopped playing that danger zone song.

^^ They loop the whole soundtrack while your going through the line, even if its not a long line it still annoys you cause your walking so far, but songs like danger zone get you pumped up for the ride, if you like the movie like i do

I think it's funny that everyone thinks Top Gun is on this kind of death row of roller coasters. It's not really that old and it still packs people in. I can't see PKI removing it too soon. Why is there so much Top Gun hating?? It's a ride based on one of the most popular movies ever and it's a cheap little thrill.

Still, the possibility of new cars would be neat. I'd personally love to see PKI get a ride similar to The Raptor (No, Face/Off doesn't count because it's nowhere near as cool as The Raptor). But I personally think Top Gun is going to exist in its current state for a few more years.

Now did ya hear the one about the changes they're gonna do to The Vortex??

Homer Jay as I stated before we are nto saying Top Gun is on Rollercoaster Death Row. We are saying that this is an alternative to removing it when the time comes. No one said its going to be soon. Like i said in my first post.... WAY into the future.

I think Top Gun's problems lie in it's nature walk of a queue line. An alternative I would like to see is a modifaction to it to make it longer (Similar to Morgan's work on Steel Phantom) and make the entrance closer to the sign to cut down the walking time.

It would be cool if they could cover the line to the entrance and put in moving sidewalks like on Space Mountains exit at WDW

Though its very unlikely, Ive always thought it would be cool to add on to Top Gun; it still has sooo much speed at the end of the ride....even if it does simulate a carrier landing.

On topic of the cars, my brother and I were at PKI today (Sunday the 10th) and Top Gun only had one train running. Not only was only one car running, there was no other train in sight. Anyone no where it is? Rehab still?

I spoke with the guy who designs rides for all of the Paramount Parks. I mentioned the new Vekoma cars - and he said he had never heard of them. He took out his Palm Pilot and jotted down a note about it and said it sounds cool and he will check it out. So who knows...

Whether it's new Vekoma cars or new theming, whatever it takes to get a new soundtrack is fine with me.

On another note -- for those of you who have been around the block for a couple of years now, you may remember at the first CDBB construction tour in November of 03 that Siebert mentioned that they had looked into getting floorless trains for TG and it was just too expensive.

Top Gun just got hollywoodized so I doubt they get rid of it soon of course I would like to see them replace top gun near TR:TR and have The addams family take over Top Guns land but thats just wishful thinking on my behalf.

For the last time people, we werent saying they were going to take out top Gun anytime soon!

I could see PKI changing the Theme of Top Gun to something else rather than spend the money to tear it down and build a new coaster. I can see it being themed to either a action movie or Star Wars. That would be a great idea and an addition to the park, after all you now have IJST as a car chase themed coaster. I would like to see them do something with it like the Vampire. That looks like a really great and themed coaster.
