In 2003 they were disassembled like this and painted in the picnic grove. I suppose you’re right - we don’t know for sure. However the fountain has had pedestals since ‘72 so if they want to have some semblance of restoration to the 70’s then I’d think this would be part of it.
January 17, 20197 yr I love all the TLC Cedar Fair is putting into the park...with that said, this news both scares & excites me! I can think of things that I would love changed...but fear that they will remove things I love. (I'll keep my fingers crossed.)
January 17, 20197 yr I'll probably be that one guy, but I am more excited for the IS renovations than the Tiques. Just because of it being a "magestic" part of the park.

January 17, 20197 yr I give Cedar Fair a lot of credit for looking for ways to improve the park. The great thing about this renovation is how unexpected it was. Hopefully the park brings back some of the original type shops. It would be great if they had more retro merchandise like CP does.
January 17, 20197 yr I am also more excited about the rehab of IS then cars. I actually keep forgetting about the cars.
January 17, 20197 yr With Firehawk being removed and the speculated giga it's quite easy for the cars to be overlooked. I think we hit a jackpot with this year's additions.
January 17, 20197 yr After watching the renovation video again, I don’t think they would have shown the pedestals taken apart if they weren’t planning on putting them back.

Of course, how long before someone(s), decide to jump what looks to be a low fence and into the fountains? Who was to stop someone from going into the fountain before this? All there was is a small concrete wall with a small rail...... but, I see your point.

January 17, 20197 yr Author They should also put the antenna back on the Tower to make it look taller and more style-ish. I don't understand why you would want to jump into a fountain that has geese droppings in it (literally; I can't tell you the last time I didn't see a goose in the fountain).

Originally, the water bowls sat on top of the simple round cylindrical "tubes." Later, for decoration (and added support) the bowls were given 8 support arms each. In the pictures above you can see how the original pedestal "tubes" still exist and the original bowls with the later-added arms sit over top of them. I've never noticed the lack of support arms in early photos; thanks for pointing that out! Here's pictures from 1972, 1973, and 1974. It appears they were added for the 1974 season. 1972 (eBay user MomThrewItAway) 1973 (flickr user tshiverd) 1974 (QueenCityDisco.com)

January 17, 20197 yr They really need to finish getting rid of the rest of the black top in the park. That stuff is horrible to walk on in the summer time
January 17, 20197 yr Man, those are some cool pictures. I’ll echo what others have said about the “sidewalk” in the first picture. It would be stellar is those made a return. That looks great.
January 17, 20197 yr Author I'm not anti- american, but it is absolutely ANNOYING when I try to take a somewhat decent photo of IS with the tower and those flag poles in the way. Just keep them outside the park in front of the main gate.

I have needed to come up with creative framing, at times, but it always works out. Patriotism, from a corporation, is not bad.
January 17, 20197 yr Hope they don't get rid of all the trees. Trees add shade and ambiance that takes decades to get back. Hopefully they work them into the new layout.

They disrupt the clean visual sight line of the fountain and tower.
January 17, 20197 yr I hope the fountains look the same with the blue and white. Takes me back to my childhood and I love it.

Knowing what some of the towns around here are known for, I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. Heck, years back, when I moved back from Columbus, the first thing I saw was a man driving his car down the sidewalk, over grass and driveways, as if he didn't know he wasn't on the road...
January 19, 20197 yr Just noticed on the first two pictures that the building facades appear much more intricate than now. I suppose as a kid, I might not have noticed back then. I hope they bring back the facades. They look more natural to me. Kind of a mini-Epcot.
January 19, 20197 yr This is completely amazing! Wow just wow! This 2019 season is going to be great!
