July 28, 201412 yr Perhaps a tether as a backup? From the cable coming down & causing injuries? Well done! Brilliant!
July 28, 201412 yr Friction brakes do stop things fast, I hit the e stop on a coaster for instance and it slams into the first set of brakes and won't budge. So think on that, if you hit it in the up stroke, what if they don't stop and sit at the bottom? What if it stops and it's 10 or more feet off the ground? I'd leave it the way it is. Knowing the system if it were able to just ride stop or do a failsafe mode like an S&S tower and slowly descend or open the valves and purge the tanks except for the ride carriage and slowly release that pressure, sweet. However, the way this ride works to control that pressure like that could actually cause an issue, think if you need to purge those tanks instead of slowly releasing them.. The ride operated as intended and everything worked as expected, everyone is alive, it was a good day.
July 28, 201412 yr I think we are talking about different braking systems. But thats fine.....I'm just pulling you know what out of you know where.
July 28, 201412 yr Author Thank you for being bold enough to say what I was thinking but not willing to say myself. jcgoble3, who needs to stop biting on stuff like that

I also am going to just start reporting the trolling behavior... Now get off my lawn! lol
July 31, 201412 yr No, the cables that actually swing the arms broke previously. Side note: Here are a few pictures of them working on installing new cables: https://www.facebook.com/coastercrew/posts/516082661858688
July 31, 201412 yr Poor ride has been through hell the past two years unfortunately, and it's older brother works perfectly all the time, everytime
July 31, 201412 yr Im not a ride tech or engineer, but wouldnt every bolt on that swing arm need to be inspected? I know on a boat when a rigging snaps, it can cause everything else that works on that tension to become loose.
July 31, 201412 yr Referring to the other S&S in the park. I guarantee everything on the sweeps AND probably everything from the compressors to the ride will be inspected given the state's involvement this week.
July 31, 201412 yr Oh I wasnt implying it wouldnt be.... Here is a better question: Does that arm work on tension or is the line just used to pull and release (I have not ridden it nor anything like it)
July 31, 201412 yr Honestly not entirely sure. For what I gathered the cables actually had a bit more tension than I expected, I figured they were just there for slight additional support. I would bet everything is getting torque tested and checked twice. I'm just curious as to S&S's involvement this week, I'm sure we'll see soon. Hopefully now not a shorter ride cycle. The cables getting installed just help hold the sweeps together, they have nothing to do in regards to ride movement, only two cables are involved in that. Here's a great article to explain how Screamin' Swings work (and hell just about every other S&S product) http://hydraulicspneumatics.com/200/TechZone/PneumaticValves/Article/False/21800/TechZone-PneumaticValves
July 31, 201412 yr I thought you meant the Screaming Swing at Kennywood. It was down the other day, hope it's open on Sunday! I need my fix!

July 31, 201412 yr Explained in the first sentence.. Cables on the sides are the drive cables attached to the sheaves. Piston gets pushed by air either way, move the swing. All other cables just help hold it all together and keep it sturdy and not all the force moving into just the bolts
August 1, 201412 yr I thought you meant the Screaming Swing at Kennywood. It was down the other day, hope it's open on Sunday! I need my fix! Me too! Two more days!!!
August 2, 201412 yr Skyhawk has reopened with only one side operating. The side that had the failure is the side that is closed.
August 2, 201412 yr ^ That's pretty clever. Glad to hear it's running again because it's my favorite flat.
