I'm going to guess it was the motor for the air conditioners/ air handlers. I would assume the motors for the LIMS or other mechanical parts of the ride are far enough removed from the general public, that unless the smoke spread quickly, people could easily move away while smoke produced from the motor on an air handler would mix with the supply air to the space and quickly spread down to the people waiting inside. That said, its just a guess, we'll see what KI says.

How large are these LIM motors? I'm just trying to get a feel for their size.

Today, at approximately 2:40 p.m., the Flight of Fear roller coaster was shut down after smoke was detected inside the ride. Kings Island emergency personnel responded quickly and guests were safely evacuated from the ride and returned to the park. Initial investigations indicate the smoke was caused by an overheated motor. As always, the safety of our guests and associates remains our number one priority.

Probably not.

It is not impossible to re-open today, but it is highly unlikely.

There is wiring to/ from the motor most likely burned which will need replaced & the motor most likely needs replaced which will take time to do if one is on hand.

I would expect FoF to be down for at least a week.

In addition: it is also likely FoF will need another testing period required by DoA.

I don't see the ride opening for at least a few weeks.

You're allowed to feel sympathy for the victims while also wondering when the ride will open. Wondering about one doesn't negate the other.

Okay don't know how accurte this is, but WDTN channel 2 out of Dayton is reporting the ride is open as usual. Here is the link to that story.

That could be true, but it could also be a lie. I think we should wait until Don gives us the official word that FoF has re-opened.

This makes it sound like it was an LIM Motor.

It smelt like gas.....then it smelt like rubber....one can argue they don't smell the same.

I believe it was 2001 when the name was changed to just Flight of Fear the same year the OSR were removed and lap bars appeared.

I'm glad no one was seriously hurt, on the other hand has anyone ever wondered what the FOF would be like as an outdoor attraction?

Well at least nobody is hurt. I was hoping to take my friend on it for her first time tomorrow. But i guess it wont be open. Sigh.
