March 2, 201412 yr This isn't related, but I continue to get this message on just about every website I go to. "A script on this page may be busy, or it may have stopped responding. You can stop the script now, or you can continue to see if the script will complete. Script: chrome://global/content/editMenuOverlay.js:16" When this does pop up it freezes everything for a while and runs really slow. How do I make it stop? Does this happen when you load the page, or does it only happen if you right click the page? That script updates the context menu, and line 16 is "return;". My best guess is that one of your extensions is causing it, perhaps by calling that function many times in a row. See if it happens with them disabled. Use Firefox instead of Chrome? . chrome:// URIs are part of Firefox, not Chrome. (They predate Google Chrome by at least 5 years.)
March 2, 201412 yr I use Firefox. Most of the time it happens on site that has continuously updating feeds (my own description because I don't know tech lingo) like Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc...
March 2, 201412 yr Author Use Firefox instead of Chrome? . chrome:// URIs are part of Firefox, not Chrome. (They predate Google Chrome by at least 5 years.) My head just exploded.
March 2, 201412 yr Chrome is used as a generic term for user interfaces - buttons, menus, and other elements that the user interacts with. chrome:// URIs are used to reference files that are part of Firefox's XUL-based user interface. Google chose the term, implying that the browser functions as a user interface to the Web.
March 2, 201412 yr ^ Just like Windows. The term "windows" was in use for graphical computer interfaces long before Microsoft released Microsoft Windows.
March 2, 201412 yr Wow..that's alot, how's your load time for FF Only four, Adblock +, Google Docs, my laptop biometric scanner, and CAC Card functionality
March 2, 201412 yr Load times are fine for the most part. To be honest, I don't know where most of those came from or what they do.
March 2, 201412 yr Plugins wouldn't be causing the chrome JavaScript issue. Disable the Avast extension and see if that fixes it. Plugins are generally only loaded when a webpage requests it. The only ones you need, in all likelihood, are Flash and Silverlight.
March 2, 201412 yr No. The anti-virus software doesn't need a browser extension to function. Add-ons from security vendors often slow down the browser because they try to check every website before it can load.
March 2, 201412 yr I've been on OSU's online class website and Twitter and it has been working great. Once again, thanks for the help!
March 2, 201412 yr No. The anti-virus software doesn't need a browser extension to function. Add-ons from security vendors often slow down the browser because they try to check every website before it can load. BUT, did he disable the extension or the program? If the latter...
March 7, 201412 yr (2:45 AM) The site is operating slower than usual for me right now. I currently have 3 tabs open on Google Chrome, KIC, Cookie Clicker, and OSU's student website, as well as iTunes and Microsoft Word. Hopefully this helps? UPDATE: As of now (4:09 AM) the site is back to the normal speed I usually experience. I have the same tabs and programs open.
March 13, 201412 yr Author Once again, right after 2:00 am the site is slower than molasses in January. There has to be some kind of server issue here for it to happen on such a regular schedule.
March 22, 201412 yr No slowdown this morning. Continuous use by this user 0100-0430. Terp, who does what he does because he must.
