  • Nice picture online today of Gatekeeper.

  • No. This is a parking lot coaster. Gatekeeper is not even comparable to bland, un-original coasters, like this.

I'm glad I was able to get some closure with DT. When hearing it was being replaced I was upset because I wasn't going to get to go until September, and it turned out that would be after it's final d

This one has everybody stumped.

^^Their was most likely nothing major wrong with Wildcat that forced them to take it out. It was due to the cramping of the new Luminosity midway. (Which looks awful, BTW)

Wildcat was testing just days prior to opening day.

Fly Dispacth Master Transport. "We get you there in 15 min or you don't get there at all"

"Dispatch Master Transport I'm losing control!"

And was already inspected and approved by the State. This leads me to believe Mr. Ouimet and/or John Hildebrandt (sp?) looked at the midway and said "Oh crap, this is too cramped."

^ Just so I don't misunderstand- you believe that after: winter rehab, including WC on the map, setting it up for normal operation, Luminosity construction on the midway, placement of the cars back on the track, state approval, testing with employees- Mr. Ouimet/ Mr. John Hildebrandt suddenly had a revelation (as opposed to the engineers that actually do this type of work for CP) that: "Oh crap, this is too cramped".

Okay.....

That's exactly how it happened. Nothing was wrong with the ride. It was going to go anyway so they took it out a year or two earlier because it was cramped. And if you've been this year, you know that area would look 10 times worse if WC was there.

^^ If there was nothing wrong with it, why scrap it out as opposed to moving it somewhere?

-also-

If it was all tested & ready for the season, why not operate it for a few weeks given Luminosity did not start until June? They could have easily had a charity benefit a la DT.

Because it was a very old ride that was going to be scrapped in a couple years anyway. They couldn't operate it for a few weeks because it had to be dismantled while the park is closed and they had to prepare that area for when Lumimosity starts.

Yes, even according to CF's press release, it was on the chopping block- just not for this year.

The park closed the end of October 2011. Luminosity has been planned much longer than that. They go through all the motions to have it open, then a handful of days prior to opening day, suddenly decide more room is needed?

Okay....

It really hasn't been planned that long. Ouimet was in the park one night and said there needed to be more night life and Luminosity was born. That probly happened around July then by the time everything is planned out its probly around October or November. They probly thought they could make it work with WC but the fact is, they didn't have 3 years to plan it and make corrections.

I'll be at CP on Saturday getting my last few rides on Disaster Transport. I will miss the ride.

The problem with CP is that they have used up all there space (to my knowlege). So if they want a new ride in they will have to take one out.

Luminosity's construction continued after Wildcat was cleared by the state, and as it continued they realized that the space was too small. I remember reading somewhere that Ouimet said he did not like the old looking coaster right across from the new stage and that the area looked cramp, thus taking it out. There was not structural damage to it.

Also, imagine trying to wait in line or even get to wildcat while the show was going on. They would probably close it for the show like they do with Iron Dragon. I'm no wiz when it comes to this stuff, or much anything, but Wildcat had more going against it than for it. Wildcat, being a portable coaster that doesn't take much to remove, was probably a wildcard when they planned Luminosity. If it looked good with the stage, great. If it looked too cramped, no big whoop, remove it.

Maybe they were testing it for scrap or as a Diversion B) .

Through the grapevine:

CF has trademarked "Gold Striker".

http://tarr.uspto.go...&entry=85686395

or is it StratoSoar?

http://tess2.uspto.g...4009:ratjgi.2.1

You can see in the above link, the trademark was abandoned (the name was believed to be for WindSeeker), but I would believe it could still be used. Or did they plan it this way, and "Gold Striker" for GA since the park's future is no longer in doubt?

Woah! FUN actually patented a name?! I can't remember seeing a little R by Diamondback or Delirium! In fact, the only one I see is on The Beast station signs.

Typical Cedar Fair, always picking dem terrible names.

Delirum was Paramount

But FUN could have easily put a trademark on the name Delirium.

Browntiggrr, many of those trademarks are dead, and really, only 2 are Kings Island-specific trademarks: The Beast (trademarked under Paramount, by the way) and Kings Island. That's it. Also, apparently FUN still owns the rights to Nights of Fire. Why isn't the 4 of July week(end) called Nights of Fire? It's still a live patent.

^You post was not about KI's trademarks but CF's (FUN).

Reading the fine print is as important as meaning what you write...... :)

Kings Island is part of Cedar Fair, and this board is about Kongs Island, is it not? I guess I should have added "and how many patents were filed for Cedar Fair's Kings Island?" or something to the effect. :)

I find it interesting that Cedar Fair trademarked "America's Roller Coast" and "The Roller Coaster Capital of the World" so I guess no one else can steal that, even if Cedar Point only has 15 and SFMM has 17.

No, this board is not about Kongs Island. :D
