May 7, 200422 yr Howdy folks, How are you? As you know, 4 billion cicadas will soon be amonst us - including at PKI. Will this influence you? Will you avoid PKI while the cicadas spread their reign of yuckiness? Will you go anyway? Or will you even go more often? Will you eat cicadas? Feed them to your pets? How will cicadas influence your life and your love of PKI? Are you worried about the cicadas? Have a great weekend! Italian Chef
May 7, 200422 yr Well just now on the news said they could be out as early as tonight. I'm scared! lol. Here in Kentucky we'll get them alot worst than PKI will so maybe I'll go to PKI to get away.
May 7, 200422 yr Nothing can keep me from visiting my favorite park. Besides, the only cool thing to do with these is either play a new form of tennis, or make jewelry out of them.
May 7, 200422 yr Yea but think about it, almost all the land at KI has been turned up, or renovated in the past 17 years, I mean, thats everything from Vortex being put in untill today. Most of KI shouldnt be that bad, the one place that will probably will be terrible is riding The Beast, wow, yea its gonna be Fabio stories all over cause non of that has been disturbed since like 25 yrs ago when The Beast was put in. But other than that they shouldnt be that bad at KI, now the zoo is terrible, that is one place that you really do not want to go.
May 7, 200422 yr I embrace bugs, anyway. At my last job at cmc, I handled madagascar hissing cockroaches and giant african millipedes. I think I can handle a few thousand cicadas.*gets out badminton raquet* Here I come!
May 7, 200422 yr I love cicadas! They have to be my favorite insect. They're not slimey, they're easy to pick up by their wings and throw around, and, (the best part) if you hold them upside down, they start vibrating like crazy. I don't know about the rest of you, but the idea of giant insects hitting me in the face while riding Beast and the other rides doesn't bother me in the least. It actually sounds fun. I really don't know why.
May 7, 200422 yr ^ If rain can do it, let's try bugs... maybe our faces will be purple by the end of the ride.
May 7, 200422 yr just dont open your mouth.......rain tastes ok on the way down...........not to sure abotu cicadas
May 7, 200422 yr You get one of those things in your mouth.... good luck breathing. I'd like to think people would be smart enough to duck or close their mouths if they were heading towards a swarm of them.
May 7, 200422 yr I believe years ago, We had a problem with a girl going to the Hospital because her face was hit by one, on The Bat i believe.
May 7, 200422 yr I don`t think it could be the 17 year cicadas and The Bat. The math just doesn`t add up. Also, I remember hearing a cicada expert from the College of Mount St. Joe sayin that he would be surprised if more than a few stray cicadas found there ways to PKI. He said that most of these little critters will be within the 275 loop!
May 7, 200422 yr In my neighbor's yard, there was a landscaping tarp on the lawn for a few days. When the tarp was removed, there were literally hundreds of the little guys, just scratching at the surface. I'm guessing the tarp helped to heat the ground a little early. They've also made little mountains under our deck for some reason. When you break off one of the mountains, there is a cicada inside. We've decided not to open our pool until after they've gone. I really do hope they are sparse at PKI.
May 7, 200422 yr If life throws you lemons, make lemonade! Why not catch these buggers and cook 'em over an open fire? I hear insects are high in protein...Atkins, anyone?
May 7, 200422 yr Keep your mouths closed on coasters. And where a mask. If they hit your face going 72mph on Delirium, it's going to hurt like HELL!
May 9, 200422 yr Has anyone been hit by one or seen one at pki yet since they were suppose to make their appearence this weekend?
May 9, 200422 yr from what i understand they don't like to fly much.. they just kinda sit on treee branches or on the ground. i wouldn't know though since they haven't come up yet in my area. good news is they will only be around for like 2 weeks!
May 9, 200422 yr Are you living under a rock? They're expected to be out by the time you wake up on Monday morning.
May 9, 200422 yr I was going off of this article - http://www.wcpo.com/news/2004/local/03/10/cicadas.html , and it says the 21st, give or take a week. This more recent article - http://www.enquirer.com/editions/2004/05/0...cadaprep08.html says the 14th. So calm down; maybe I just brought the wrong newspaper under my rock.
May 9, 200422 yr Dude my class got on the internet and we found these recipies for like Cicada smoothies, pies, and all these other food dishes you can make using cicadas and their shells. Talk about weird
May 9, 200422 yr My English teacher is bringing in his deep frier (probably tomorrow) and he went out to BW3's and got some sauce and he's making them for his classes. I'll be outside in the hallway, sittin as far away from his class as possible. The worst thing is, our school has no air conditioning and the windows won't be able to be opened.
