August 15, 201115 yr Hi! I've been reading forums here for at least a month, so I decided to finally create an account and start posting. Anyway, when I was at the park today I saw that Vortex was closed. I saw an empty train on the lift hill and one about to come into the station. The other train was about to go come in behind the train outside the station. It reminded me a lot of our previous Vortex trouble. Does this mean Vortex will be closed the rest of the season? I hope not.
August 15, 201115 yr Wow Vortex is having a lot of trouble this year. If it keeps up wonder how much long it will be around?
August 15, 201115 yr Wow Vortex is having a lot of trouble this year. If it keeps up wonder how much long it will be around? Since your screen name is Vortex...I always chuckle when you comment on Vortex...it's almost like the ride is contributing it's own opinion. Your post should have read "Wow i'm having a lot of trouble this year. If it keeps up wonder how much longer I will be around?

Maybe he's one of the Seinfeld types that refers to himself in third person.
August 15, 201115 yr What time did you see this? I do know that when the ride is on standby for opening, the trains are stopped on the blocks, so one on the hill, one coming into the station and assuming one in the station. Just a thought, could be that it was waiting to start up or it was closed for the day. There are times where rides do close for an entire day for maintenance.
August 16, 201115 yr Author I'm not sure exactly what time it was but I think that is was around 11. I rode WindSeeker and when I checked back it was still closed.
August 16, 201115 yr Haha. Maybe he's one of the Seinfeld types that refers to himself in third person. Jimmy likes that post!
August 16, 201115 yr Yeah, I was in the park today, it broke down for maybe 1 or 2 hours, I thought it was going to be closed for a long time because there were mechanics on the lift, but it opened.
August 16, 201115 yr It is a great ride but I wouldn't mind to see it go. Why? I just don't get why you would say this.

August 16, 201115 yr The answer could easily be that the new chain is stretching out and needs to be tightened (aka removing a link). Too much slop in the chain can cause it to snap.

August 16, 201115 yr A tensioner can be adjusted, but are commonly used for minor adjustments because they can only be adjusted so far.
August 16, 201115 yr I was told by the ride op at the entrance around 10:15 yesterday that Vortex "broke down". By the time I came back from lunch at almost 2:00, it was running.
August 16, 201115 yr Author I went to the park again today and I went on it! Glad to see that it was nothing major. (PS I don't go to the park everday I just got lucky.)
August 19, 201114 yr The answer could easily be that the new chain is stretching out and needs to be tightened (aka removing a link). They probably had the golden link stretch out a bit? I was told by two ride operators that there was no such thing as the golden link and if there were it would be greasy. Still, the quickness of their answer ("I assure you there is no 'Golden Link'") makes me wonder if they are protecting some secret. I'll have to ask again. ...and I'll give it a break after that ...but not like a chain break
August 24, 201114 yr Hey, I didn't notice this until looking for "the link" today, but Vortex has what's called an Offset Link Chain: where Beast and bicycles and things have just your normal everyday chain: I need to research more, but the offset link looks a bit special.
