April 5, 200422 yr Usually, (at least for the last six seasons anyway) the park mentions their nightly fireworks display in the park map. Usually something along the line of "Our fireworks display will occure when the park closes at 10pm or later." However, this year, there is no mention of the fireworks display in the park maps. Does anyone know if this tradition at PKI is a thing of the past? Or, did the park simply leave it off the park maps for some reason?
April 5, 200422 yr I have not seen park maps for this year yet, but the park usually prints diffrent maps for diffrent times of the year. The first time the park is open until ten is not until May, if the maps they had printed for today are only for April, then there would be no reason to mention the fireworks.
April 5, 200422 yr Most likely because of the parks hours for right now. The maps change a few times a year. Fireworks only happen if the park stays open 10 or later
April 5, 200422 yr The maps get put out like every 2 months I think. The park doesn't stay open till 10 till May. Maybe they will begin doing them in May again. I don't know.
April 5, 200422 yr Author I know the park isn`t open until ten. The current park maps go through the 19th of May. The maps from the same time period last year mentioned the fireworks display and this years don`t. That is why i asked if they had discontinued this tradition. Hopefully, they just didn`t print it on these maps as the fireworks are always the way the park has signaled the close of a fun filled summer day, ever since the park opened. I hope they just didn`t print it on the maps. Thanks for the quick responses! Also, an interesting thing I found on the park map involves Boomerang Bay. Did anyone else notice that Kookabura Bay is not shown on the park map, or listed in any of the hieght restrictions/intensity charts? I`m assuming they just left this attraction off of the map for some reason. Any one have any idea what is up with that?
April 6, 200422 yr Maybe they are waiting till the summer season for the fireworks. The thing is the fireworks show is expensive, and is pretty much a loss since there aren't that many people to see them in the pre season.
April 6, 200422 yr I searched the site and didn't see anything pertaining to the fireworks. I'm always a PKI morning person so I've never seen them. I guess I'll have to take a little looksee this year.
April 6, 200422 yr Fireworks are expensive and PKI dosn't want to waste there money. So why not wait untill late May, June, and July when the tourist flock in to show off the tradition?
April 6, 200422 yr Author Well, in years past, they have always done fireworks on 10pm closings or later. Usually they don`t start closing at ten until mid May anway. I don`t view the money they spend on fireworks as a waste. It is a classic way to end the park in the middle of the summer. PKI has been shooting off fireworks at park closing in the summer for its entire years history. Before that, Coney used to have fireworks displays. Back when Coney was open and now PKI (hopefully still) use Rozzi`s Famous Fireworks, which are based in Loveland, Ohio, just a stones-throw from PKI. Rozzi`s is perhaps best known for Riverfest everylabor day on the Ohio River in Cincinnati. However, Rozzi`s has also provided pyrotechnics to some of Disney`s pyrotechnical shows at its parks. IMO, it would be a HUGE mistake to discontinue the fireworks. Especially if cost is the only factor. Does anyone know why Kookabura Bay was not shown on the park maps?
April 6, 200422 yr It could have also been that this weekend was a "preview" weekend for everyone and the park just didn't do the fireworks. I am pretty confident that the park will do fireworks in some fashion. I am gonna take a bold step here and say that they are going to have fireworks on opening day ~Tiny~
April 6, 200422 yr Author They didn`t have fireworks this past weekend because the park didn`t close at ten or later. Which is the same reason why they won`t have fireworks on opening day. The reason I asked about the fireworks is because they are no longer mentioned in the April-mid-May park maps like they have been for the past six seasons.
April 6, 200422 yr ^ Gotcha Is it a real rule that the park must close at 10 in order to have fireworks? Steve
April 6, 200422 yr Author Well, that is what I have always seen. I have witnessed one day when they had fireworks at 9, but that is a Sunday in September when Provter and Gamble rents out the entire park. Other than that, I do not know of any occasions in which they launch fireworks at any time earlier than 10.
April 6, 200422 yr I LOVE NIGHTS OF FIRE! Its the coolest thing i have ever seen! Its great that PKI does Nights of Fire almost every year its really awsome and loud!
April 6, 200422 yr Is it a real rule that the park must close at 10 in order to have fireworks? Steve It started a few years ago that they would only offer fireworks at closing when it is 10pm or later. Now select big name companies that buy out the park can request it (P&G) and will have fireworks at 9pm. The park stopped doing fireworks before 10pm because they just determined it wasn't dark enough on those days to see the fireworks the best way they can be seen. Though at 10pm or later it was plenty dark and would be most noticable.
April 6, 200422 yr As far as I know there will still be nightly fireworks when the park is open until 10pm or later. I have not heard anything otherwise and am assuming that that means nothing has changed. I could be wrong, it happens from time to time. As for why it's not on the map I have no idea. We are open until 10 on every Saturday in May so the dates on the maps are not related to the fireworks as far as I can figure. There are tons of possibilities. Andy
