I know there are a fair amount of people here that want to work at PKI, so I though I'd pass this along.

I got an announcement from PKI today about the upcoming job fairs. This is by far the easiest way to get a job at PKI: you fill out the app, get interviewed, get hired, and get training scheduled all on the same day.

All the fairs will be in the Festhaus (as will returners processing), and will be from 10AM to 4PM.

And the dates are (these are all Saturdays):

January 24

February 7

February 21

February 28

March 6

PKI HR recruiters will start visiting schools on Monday, you can pick up an app from one of them and bring it back at the job fair or give it to them. You can fill one out online if you want, but I personally discourage it - I did that when I started to work there and they apparently never recieved it.

It was (and probably still is) that you need to be 16 to work in ride operations. But the park does hire for other departments at 15.

To be a Ride op, you must be at least 16. If you want to become a supervisor, or left in charge of a coaster (or major flat), you must be 18.

I wasnt too clear on what age you had to be to become a Certified Trainer (CT as we call it), so Im not even going to guess.

And by "other departments" we mean "food service."

Correct.

15 is the minimum age requirement for food service. Though remember, because of child labor laws, they aren't allowed to do much, so we limit the number we hire. Get there as soon as possible to have a better chance at being hired.

Don't be knockin "food service" till you've tried it at Kings Island.

I'm not knocking food service. I'm just saying I think they are the only department that hires 15 year-old now. Parking (tolls) used to do it too, but I'm told they stopped this year.

Did I just imagine this or had I heard that PKI was thinking about switching its rule and making all ride operators be 18 or older? Also, you can still run a major flat or coaster if you are under 18 and 16 or 17 correct? You just have to be 18 or older to be in charge of the ride. I know at Coney, any operator that has been trained to operate the Coaster and Ferris Wheel, the two hardest rides to operate at Coney, especially the Ferris Wheel, you don`t have to be 18 or older to run them. The thing that I find odd deals with the volunteer program and food service. You can be 16 and work in food service, but if you wish to volunteer in food services, you must be 18 or older. I guess there is some sort of legal reason for that one, but it doesn`t make much sense to me.

So if you are 17, you can operate rides?

Unless something has radically changed without mu knoweledge (which is possible) you can still work any ride in the park if you're under 18. I think they might implement a new rule saying that at least 18 year old must be at EVERY ride at all times, before I think it was just coasters. Heck, I'm 17 and I could drive and run the whole saftey test on 2 coasters - and I wasn't the only one.

At the end of last season, it was that every major flat ride and coaster in the park had to have one person who was over 18 in charge. Trust me, there were many a day that I had to go to Beast due to their young (but loveable) crew only having one 18+ year old on it and I was in charge. Nothing like being in charge of a ride that is not even your homeride!

Nah, last time I checked all the non-warehouse Resale Departments (food, merch, games) hired 15 year olds. Granted, that was last season, and hiring policies may have changed.

Starting this year, I think there going to make it so you have to be 18 to become a new CT. If your a minor and already a CT then your fine.

Exactly. I don't know what I'm going to encounter when I (hopefully) transfer over to rides, but I hope it's good.

Job fairs are nice, but be prepared to put on a smile and dress your best for the interview. Not like business suit nice, more like best street clothes kind of nice.

Just make sure you're department OK'd the transfer. Mine didn't at first and it took a little while to fully change over to rides. Other than that, it went very smoothly for me. There's probably a little more training than in merch, but thats just a guess to be honest.

I like this person already To all you ride department hopefuls out there, Action Zone is the place to be and don't let anyone tell you different.

I doubt it's changed but rides start their people out at 6.50 an hour.

AZ is a great place to work. BUT its busy all the time. Be prepared. Next PKI for dummies should be here soon.

I heard that ride operators must be 18 this year. I will try and find out when I get back to the park for returner training and the meet and greet with the new officers.

Also, if you are looking for a cool job, you can always be an officer! It sounds like it might be boring (and you'll be called a rent-a-cop a ton of times) but the pay is great and you get to do a lot. They aren't hiring a lot of new officers this year, so you would have to apply pretty fast.

Another great place to work would be entertainment. They get to be the ushers for the Timberwolf concerts and the other shows that they put on. If you like to sing and dance, they can hire you for that as well for our own shows. Odds are most of the performers have already been hired for next year... if someone else on the forums works entertainment, they can tell you more.

No. It might scare them. As long as you act like you have some sense, you'll be fine.

I too thought I remember hearing that ride operators would have to be 18 or older at PKI this season. I forget where I read that at though. I have heard that CP`s ride operators have to be 18 or older and have for some time. I know that at Coney it is 16 and up and they can barely find enough of us in the peak season as it is. BTW, Coney`s picnic grounds and part of the picnic parking lot was under water Friday evening due to the high waters from the nearby Ohio. I don`t know if any rides were submerged, but I do know the waters hadn`t made it to Moonlite Gardens and Lake Como yet. Boy, I`m glad I don`t have to helpo clean up that mess.

I kind of doubt its that much of a problem. The river floods every year or two, and Old Coney is always one of its first targets. I believe this is why the developers started building up a certain other amusement park in Mason.
