Dreamworld managed by Paramount?

Featured Replies

Dreamworld amusement park is located at the Gold Coast in Australia. I was wandering if Paramount Parks managed this park because they have a Runaway Reptar (Vekoma junior inverted). Also, on the park`s website, they have a promotion for Tomb Raider. However, after i searched there site, I found nothing that dealt with Paramount or Paramount Parks. The only thing I found out, which I already knew, is that Paramount Parks does not own this park. I know PP manages Terra Mitica in Spain, and Bonfante Gardens in Gilroy, California. However, do they also manage this park, or does the park have some sort of agreement with Paramount to use some of its licensing franchises?

I was wondering this a couple of years ago. I just figured Paramount Managed it.

I have not heard any news that Paramount manages this park though. Obviously, there is some connection as they have the exact same ride as KI (Reptar) with the same name, theme and almost identical color scheme. I`ve just never heard of a connection to a park in Australia and only stumbled across this information as the Runaway Reptar coaster at Waqnderland was featured on Coasterbuzz as one of the random pictures on the homepage. It seems that Paramount has started to enter into a lot of management deals as of late.

In press releases from PKI, they usually end by saying how PKI is part of Paramount Parks div of Viacom... blah blah blah... and then end up by listing the parks they own and manage. I have never seen it mentioned, I've never heard anyone at PKI talk about it or known any of their VP's to meet at PKI when they have some meetings. I'm going to say, they just pay Paramount for their names and logos.

They most likely have a licence deal with Viacom. Since there are no Paramount Parks down under they picked up the licence. Then again KECO(Kings Island Entertainment Company) did own a park down there at one time.

Also...that Tomb Raider stunt show that was at PKI was also at DreamWorld.

As far as I know, Dreamworld is getting the stunt show this year as something new. So they haven't had it before. Not sure if its the same stunt show or a different one. Though, because they are using the Tomb Raider name they legally have to have a legal contract with Viacom to allow them to use it.

Firstly,

Hi Everyone, I hope to clear up some information regarding the Dreamworld/Wonderland relationship with Paramount.

Dreamworld is not affiliated with Paramount Parks, it simply has a contract to use the Nick Central name and theming in its park. However it has recently signed to use the Lara Croft themeing for a walkthrough attraction.

Wonderland, once called Australia's Wonderland was created by KECO back in 1985. Since then it has been sold a few times and operates a few rides that were at or are copies of rides at other Paramount Parks.

The Zodiac that operated at PKI is currently operating at Wonderland and as of late the Bayern Curve (Spelling) was operating but it was called Wizard's Fury.

Wonderland has a rollercoaster called The Bush Beast which is a direct copy of Wild Beast at Canada's Wonderland.

Wonderland also had a copy of The Beastie which operated and is now SBNO.

There are also more similarities but there are too many to mention.

It has been announced that Wonderland Sydney will close on April 24th 2004.

This basically means that there will not be a TRUE theme park in Sydney.

Wonderland Sydney To Cease Trading

16/02/04

It is with great sadness that the decision has been taken to close Wonderland Sydney.

It is our intention to cease trading on April 26, 2004. The decision was taken in view of consistent losses incurred and difficult market conditions.

The challenges faced by the tourism/leisure industry over the past few years… the Asian financial crisis, Sept 11, Ansett collapse, War on Iraq, HIH collapse and the skyrocketing insurance premiums, the Bali terrorist attack, the devastating bush fires, SARS and now the Asian bird flu have simply taken their toll.

Mr Stephen Galbraith, CEO Leisure Theme Parks Sunway Group said today, “When we took over eight years ago, the park’s future was uncertain. Since then, we have lifted the overall performance of the park, completely rebuilt its image and brand awarenessâ€.

Our efforts were recognised with Wonderland Sydney achieving the major attraction award for Business excellence at the 2002 Tourism NSW Awards and runner up in 2003. Recognition by IAAPA- International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions yielded two “Brass Ring“ awards for outstanding marketing.

However all this has simply not been enough to sustain the operation.

The first priority is our staff. All appropriate leave entitlements under their respective awards and agreements will be honoured. Wonderland Sydney will also provide a range of initiatives to assist and support staff in finding new employment.

So do you think Paramount Parks will get the old rides back or copy of the old rides that still work. I would love to see The Zodic and The Bayern Curve back in the park.

Wonderland is not the only non-Viacom theme park to use Viacom characters. Both Universal Orlando and Universal Studios Hollywood offer Nickelodeon characters and rides. It's too bad that Wonderland will close. It's sad for Australia.

Yup

Universal Orlando and Hollywood also have Hanna-Barbera Characters

Do Universal and Paramount Parks share Characters??? biggrin.gifhuh.gif
