June 8, 201016 yr I noticed at while sweeping today that the poles over by the first aid station had been cut to about 4 1/2 feet. They had placed some sort of gel cover on the top to avoid injury I assume. Makes me really wonder what these poles are for now.
June 8, 201016 yr I'm going to KI the 18th and 19th, I am sure they will have them up by then. I'l tell you what I see.
June 8, 201016 yr I'd like to know whats taking them so long to put the stucco on the pillars on either side of the arch. It doesn't take that long...
June 8, 201016 yr As of today, left side is all stuccoed (spelling?) and right pillar is mostly done.
June 8, 201016 yr My late father would love this. Had I asked him what this was all about, he would have said: "For little boys to ask questions about!" Then he would have walked away. Happily. Imagine how Don feels as he reads this thread!
June 8, 201016 yr A couple of things. First, the poles that are nearly 4.5' tall have not been cut in half. Those are simply the bases for the larger flag poles. Secondly, it isn`t stucco that they are putting up, but rather a version of EIFS (Exterior Insulation Finishing System). Stucco is normally applied in three separate coatings, while EIFS is usually a thin synthetic coating applied over insulation (the white column is wrapped in styrofoam, which is wrapped over the Densglass Gold sheathing (the yellow stuff on the right in the above image). And the reason why it is taking so long for the work on this arch and the flags? The park is open daily now, so all work has to be performed in the morning hours prior to the park opening, or overnight when the park is closed. Labor is more expensive if the work is being done at night. So naturally, there is only so much that can be done in the twelve hours that the park is closed everyday.
June 8, 201016 yr Good point. He is right about the poles. The bases were securely fastened in the asphalt then a outer Sleeve of approx 12' were placed over top of them. Makes it very secure. It is the same principle installing a major sized flag pole. Usually a PVC pipe is put into the ground surrounded by concrete. Once dry the flag pole which is a smaller in size slides down inside the pvc. At that point sand is used to level the flag pole inside the pvc sleeve. Another reason they do this is because of winds and weather. the pole itself can actually move and spin.
June 12, 201016 yr You know, I find it really funny how towards the end of last year, many on these boards were questioning Kings Island and CF's attempt at retheming Nick Universe due to CF's past track record when it comes to theming. Now, in the midst of the 2010 season, I think that they did an outstanding job on Planet Snoopy. The area looks great and Boo Blasters is in my opinion, not scary, but awesome. What I also find funny is the fact that many were thinking that the transition would be a quick band-aid type of deal (a bit of new paint) when in reallity, the park does'nt even seem to be finished with the area. This new sign, the flagpoles, and new banners showing up proves this theory. KIBOB, who has been a little off topic lately, but likes to express great things......

Maybe they realized waiting until February to start rehauling the kids' area was a bad idea and they have to work through the regular season to finish up. Though, why they decide to start work on a new sign NOW, during the regular season, and not in the pre-season where a lot more work can be done during the week (which is why major work on Haunt doesn't start until after Labor Day Weekend) is beyond me.
June 13, 201016 yr ...perhaps they had to wait until they had the money... Terp, kidding....he thinks
June 13, 201016 yr I assume your quote was correct terpy. They had to wait to sell a few more Coke's for the C.O.D before the FedEx driver would release them.
June 18, 201016 yr The sign is officially put up! From KI's Twitter: KingsIslandPR PHOTO: New entrance to the all-new Planet Snoopy kids' area. http://twitpic.com/1xx9rk
June 18, 201016 yr And I can see flags from the flagpoles barley. Looks like they are Planet Snoopy related.
June 18, 201016 yr The flags have been up since last weekend, they're different lightly colored banners with Peanuts Characters. And WOW I love that sign!
June 18, 201016 yr The sign looks pretty awesome! I love to see more atmosphere in the park, even though all my kids are nearly too old for the PS area these days. Thanks for posting the pic!
June 18, 201016 yr Very nice, makes it more inviting, it is amazing how a simple sign can make that enterance into Planet Snoopy really pop!
June 18, 201016 yr Looks very nice! I'm just wondering how I missed it when I was at the park earlier today.
June 19, 201016 yr It's amazing all the things they are doing to improve the park! This sign looks so nice, and welcoming.
June 19, 201016 yr Wow, that sign is GINORMOUSLY HUMONGOUS. I wonder if Viacom is going to be mad they put the Blue's Clues paw on the two columns, though...
June 19, 201016 yr Funny how CF doesn't give a crap about theming at KI until it's about a character which CF seems to be obsessed with...
June 19, 201016 yr The sign does look good. I have to give it to Cedar Fair....they are really trying to win the Best Kids Area award with this one. lol
