Prater: Drunk Dies Trying To Jump On High Speed Carousel

Featured Replies

A fun fair goer died after trying to jump on to a high-speed carousel at Vienna's Prater amusement park on Saturday night.

The drunk 34-year-old man and a 29-year-old friend had earlier taken a ride on the "Extasy" carousel which goes up to speeds of 120 kilometres per hour.

But as the pals were leaving, he decided he wanted more and ran back to get on board the ride which had already started...

That just sounds crazy! i definatley want to ride that. as for the drunk man who was killed, thats a prime example as to why I dont think they should sell alcohol at parks. alcohol=drunk=dumb decisions.

Don't assume he became drunk while in the park. He could have already been intoxicated (if he was) before he entered the park...

Very true. He could just as easily have bought booze outside of the gates and been tipsy before even entering the park. Such things have been known to happen. In fact, some parks have been known to have issues with people going out to the parking lot to drink at their cars before re-entering the park. Such parks have taken steps to try and prevent that from happening.

Here is what ride came up when I searched "Extasy Carousel"

EDIT: Here is a better version

Talk about a ride that looks to be vomit inducing! Not to mention it holds you upside down a long time. Although I don`t know if it goes quite 75 miles per hour.

It looks really intense! I would probably throw up after riding this, and I can normally handle spinning rides pretty well! haha

I still can't believe they sold any of those....uh, infernal contraptions. I had the misfortune of riding one of those at IAAPA some years back. I'm still not quite sure I am over it...

Wow, I rode something similar to that at our local county fair last summer. THE MOST violent ride I've ever been on.
