I hate to say it but its time to stop snapping

Featured Replies

Seems the snapping is out of control again. The park may not allow it again. It may be time to cut back on the flyers a bit. Its fun and all but if we keep hitting trees they may not allow it any more. Lets avoid it for a weekend or 2.

Only a few people know how to do a good snap. And most of them don't know about PKIU. So whatever its fun to do.

I like to do the little manuver where I swing the car around backwards.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. On Saturday, there was a good size limb that had become a real problem. (it was the tree just over the control stand) I talked for a little while to Brian, while the limb was being cut down. He dispelled a rumor that was floating through the local ACE community that the trees were slated to come down. For some of the peeps who don't frequent the flyers, snapping is a tradition that has an appeal for 6 year olds, and still appeals to those who enoyed the flyers at Coney.

PKI has been incredible, and is one of the few parks to allow snapping. A maintenence person (a friend of the family) told me the ride is designed to handle snapping, as has handled it well for decades. As long as PKI does the job they've been doing maintaining it, we should be fine.

If you frequent the flyers, and get to know the crew, they will actually congratulate you on a good ride! I hope Paramount management does nothing to change this policy. I, personally, feel this would change the personality of the park; and help to erode sme of the tradition this ride represents in this area.

On Sunday, I enjoyed this ride easily 2 dozen times. The front of the park was slammed....yet there was little wait for the flyers all day. I did brush the trees a little, but did no actual contact. As I said, with the one problematic branch removed from the path of the tubs....I wouldn't worry.

Snapping is a tradition at PKI. Its one of my favorite things to do. I love the flyers! biggrin.gif

I did hit the trees on Saturday, I was going into the line just as they closed to cut down the limb. I got 2 rides in that day, both were good snapping.

Also, after working on Beast yesterday (sent there), I know some of the eagle's crew now. I also found out a Beast sup lives on my street! what a coincidence!

Really and truely a coincedence. it is not every day that that happens!!! and StXBomber If you get a chance FOF talk about how he knows you and I would like to meet you some time!

Being able to snap is what makes the Flying eagles so great. I'm very happy with PKI's descision to let you snap on the Flyers.

I bet you guys will jump all over me when I asked this question. But what EXACTLY is "snapping" and how do you do it? I bet who ever reads this will laugh, I feel pretty stupid asking this question but , what ever! Well, who ever want to explain this "snapping" to me I would like it!.......Go Ahead and Laugh! laugh.gif

Do you think you guys are the only ones who can snap those things? The general public do it all the time and don't even realize what they are doing.

I think that is because how PKI runs the ride. I sometimes see little kids who don't have a clue of what they are doing and they can snap them. You might see the GP snapping but they can no way snap let the best of us.

Its very easy. Snapping is when you go up high enough on the flyers to loosen the cables, then when you lose momentum, you fall and the cables snap. All you have to do is turn the fin in the front to go up higher. Then you quickly move it back. Its that simple. Its loads of fun. biggrin.giflaugh.gif

Listen............SoB Rider is right, You probaly should stop for a little while.........or else the park may get rid of the possiblity of snapping all together.

It is very fun, but it is kinda scary. You can get some feelings of freefall. Another manuver is spinning the car 180.

I almost got it around, but then my friend started freaking out, so I had to stop the snapping/spinning.

I hope they don't ban it. I just learned how to do it last weekend, and I enjoy it!

I have only done it a few times, by accident. I really don't know how to do it that well, but I got lucky a few times!

Yea it is really fun to do. But it does freak "newbies" out alot. I usually ride with my mom, but she dosent like to ride with me on it. biggrin.gif

Has there ever been a "Ban" on snapping? I don't think that PKI would put one on to thr Eagles, I mean they designed the ride to do that, if they didn't it would of collapsed from all the snappers. Long live the Snap! ph34r.gif

As far as I know there has never been a ban on snapping the flyers. As far as I know there will not be a ban put in place. The tree was hit to hard this weekend and maintance trimmed the tree. They did this to prevent damage to the eagles. The branches on the tree have been hit the past few weekends, and that one hit finished it. Snapping is fine, just please be carefull and do not try to take the tree out.
