Coney Island Central Debuts!

Featured Replies

Welcome to the new Coney Island Central. Coney Island Central is a new subsite of Kings Island Central, and is dedicated to Coney Island. Without Coney, Kings Island would never have been developed. There is lots of information on the pages of this website, including pictures of some of Coney`s classic rides. Also, check out the forums for the latest news and discussions on Coney Island. To visit the homepage for this site, simply go to www.coneyisland.KICentral.com.

Click here to see the photos, showing off the park and many of Coney`s classic rides.

Also, we have coverage of the eighth annual LaRosa`s Balloon Glow that took place on the 3rd of July. Click here to see those photos.

Regards,

Robbie

WHAT? SPAM!!

Just kidding!

Robbie has worked VERY hard on this over the past couple of months and we're very proud to have it as an extension of the KICentral brand.

It looks very nice. Good job Robbie. This might convince me to visit Coney sometime this summer since I haven't been in many years.

Once again, great job Rob (lol I rhymed.) You put alot of work into this new extention, and its completely worth it. Coney Island is a highly overlooked park IMO, and I'm not just saying that because I work there. It's had an infamous legacy with multiple floods that drastically reshaped the park a few times. If not for Coney, Kings Island wouldnt even exist today....

Robbie, I know you had been showing me some of your progress as you went along but I am very overly impressed with the final product. I think I may check out Coney this year to ride the Python, coney needs a wood coaster.

After a very brief debut back in July, Coney Island Central has now relaunched with a new look. This subsite of Kings Island Central is dedicated to Coney Island, Kings Island`s predecessor.

If you have any historical pictures of Coney Island that you would be willing to contribute to the site, please feel free to do so, and credit will of course be given.

You have done a wonderful job with the site. All of you, I would love to now get some aerial for you.

When Great American Financial Corp. purchased Taft Broadcasting in 1987, they also purchased Coney Island. Carl Lindner controlled Great American Financial Corp. at that point in time. Taft Broadcasting was then renamed Great American Communications Co. Ronald Walker had been an associate of Carl Lindner. He purchased the park from Great American Communications Co. in 1991 for $3.8 million. Incidently, that is the price that Taft had hoped to sell Coney for back when it closed after the 1971 season. Ronald Walker died unexpectedly in 1997. But his wife Brenda continues to own Coney to this day.

Thats funny, just yesterday I remembered something about the site being mentioned on here sometime over the summer. Great job!

Youre right, if it wasnt for Coney, KI wouldnt be there.

Of course, you can say the same for the (almost) yearly flood.

Good job on the site Rob.

It wasn't just the flooding that caused Coney Island to be replaced back then by Kings Island...it was other factors, too; from parking to moving to a suburban location in the middle of nowhere with lots of room to growth. Yes, Mason was truly comparatively the middle of nowhere back then.

That is a really nice site and has lots of information about the park. I look for it to grow strongly and has a great overall feeling to the site. Nice job.

Woah CONEY ISLAND? Up until 15 years ago mason was nothing but KI and farms. Still I love Coney..They need thems a woodie.

Wooden coaster would be what Coney needs it could be a compact wood something like BOwling greens ky Ky Rumbler????

also Coney needs a lost river:

Glad to see the Coney site, I hope eventually we can get some vintage old photos of old coney, that would be awesome!

Yes. If any one has pictures from Coney Island pre-1972 and would be willing to share them with the site, please let me know through PM. Credit will be given, of course. It would be awesome if we could build the historical portion of the photo gallery, and would be a nice complement to the historical pictures on KICentral.

man this site is no longer working

Site is working for me.  I just haven`t updated it since the rides were removed at the end of the 2019 season.  The former owners sold out to Riverbend, and I have felt kind of indifferent about the whole thing.  Such a waste of a wonderful Cincinnati asset, and where I spent 20 summers of my life.  I miss working the rides there so much, and am sad my kids will not be able to work there like I did.

I think i could live with Coney being downgraded significantly….. But it’s the removal of sunlight pool. It really strikes me as final final….
