Kings Island Coaster Campout
When I was a teenager, showering was not important, especially because it was a bunch of my peers, so no one cared what the smell was. However, at summer camp, were required to shower at least every other day. Weekend campouts, not so much. As an adult, it is bad enough to smell body odor in the que lines. I don't want to contribute to that. I agree with most posted opinions...great idea, terrible execution.

Dollywood 2016 Announcement
Looks to be an amazing ride, I did find Dolly to be a little awkward and contrived, wish she had not of said it made her nauseous and she would not ride it, even if she redacted that statement.

I saw the same commercial in the Lexington market today. Although in the local vernacular, it would be expected to say: "I seen it today." Or even more authentic : "Yessir, I seed it." Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk

Today may have been my last visit this season for KK for me. Due to workig every weekend, my times at parks is rapidly coming to a close. I am going to try and go to KI and perhaps HW once each if i can. I may get Sunday Nov 1 off for KI closin day. That being said, today was kind of a bizzare day at the Kingdom for me: When stopping at the parking toll gate, the attendent asked me to park in the "K Lot" because of an even at the exposition center. I had to drive down the road that bisects the park; the parking lot was filled with tents and RVs and classic cars; must have been a car show. I did, however, get a parking spot three away from the entrance to the park. Crowds were VERY light upon entering. I wallked right on to Lightning Run. Clouds were ominous, so I decided to head to T3 next. On the way over, it was announced that all rides and attractions were closed because of the imminent bad weather. Water park folk were leaving in droves. I went to Taco Tequila to wait it out. Did some crowd watching (see previous post) and enjoyed some chips and queso. The storm blew over, so I decided to stroll around and wait for T3 and Thunder Run to re-open. There were about 10 people waiting for T3 when a ride op came out of the station but said he did not have any information about re-opening. The announcement was made that Hurricane Bay was not going to reopen. I wandered over to Mile High falls where I watched empty boats testing, and some track for Storm Chaser on site. Thunder Run was running empty trains, so I decided to head over to tthe station. One the way over, the announcement was played that "due to high winds, some rides may close." In the station, I waited about 20 minutes, then had a great ride. Upon returning to the station, the ride ops annobyunced the park was closing and this was the last ride of the day. There were no public announcements, but no rides were operating. Instead of walking back to the entrance around Swamp Water Jacks, I decided to walk around Hurricane Bay. After crossing the bridge (after only seeing 3 people), no rides were operating. However, at the Stage 6 building, the Wizard of Oz play by the local high school students was on. I was able to buy a t-shirt. The cashier did not know if the park was open or closed. At the front entrance, there were maybe 20 peope taking pictures and hanging out. I left, happy to do everything (except T3) I wanted to do. But I was perplexed as to what happened. Was the park open or closed? This was around 5:30 pm. I had not planned on staying much later than this, as I was going to visit my sister, but it was weird. My sister had a coupon for a free admission to Beech Bend that had been sent out in the Valpack mailer--I only wish I could use it.

At the park today and currently sidelined for a storm delay. Interesting to crowd watch at Taco Tequila. Boys playing with an empty water bottle in the rain while others are worried about getting wet...in the area just outside the water park so said people are in bathing suits Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk

So what woodie at Kings Island would you want to get an RMC treatment?
I think Jeff Gramke said it best at Coasterstock. To paraphrashe: Wood coasters are actually steel coasters and steel coasters (as traditionally defined) are actually plastic coasters.

I agree! I am still hurt over the removal of the Coney Mall sign! I would absolutely love it if Cedar Fair decided to reintroduce some original Kings Island feel for the 50th Anniversary, similiar to what they are doing at Kings Dominion. I'm curious if this satisfies the nostalgia aspect for the KD entusiasts?

I really liked it too! Up until this year, I avoided inverted/looping coasters. Thunderbird fixed that! Since Holiwood Nights/Thuderbird, I have ridden Banshee, T3, Vortex and Firehawk. Antiemetics are my friend! Firehawk, on the other hand is NOT my friend. I had decided I would never ride it, so I did not prepare for it. Last week, I decided to be spontaneous after riding Vortex...wasn't prepared to go backwards! While I did not have nausea, I was sweating buckets. First time in a LONG time I was able to see the fireworks from the freeway!

Kings Island 2015 Discussion Thread
I have to say, every person I have interacted with is pleasant and friendly in '15 and '16. But it seems like the "back staff" are in need of retraining or replacement. At Skyline Chili in the area formerly known as Coney Mall, they were literally on their elbows on the prep table and took approximately 10-15 minutes to fix my 3-way and coney, and there was only one person in front of, and behind me. The Chicken Shack is the same way. Reds Grille, I have been pleased with, no bad service this year. Of course, selection is key. And these are the folks that want $15/hr. Scary.

I disagree. Several years ago, I had to wait almost 30 minutes for a Coca-Cola *bottled* drink on one of the carts. And the worker couldn't count change. I posted a constructive comment on the Facebook page, it was deleted and now I can no longer comment on the page.

The only "bad" experience I had at KK this year was the station for T3. A bunch of rowdy teens with shorts/pants at the knees yelling to each other across the station. No fightng, however. It was almost as annoying as the teens in the boardwalk que of The Beast who were making out (quite graphically!) and the gal was incredulous when she was asked to put her t-shirt back on. Something to the effect of: "It's a bikini top dude, mind your own business."

What happens in this que line? Each of the four times I have visited in '15, I have seen no issues in the que line. Maybe I just pick good days to go.

Sounds like the discussion of Storm Chaser on the KK thread...

I am SOOO tempted to do this. Cancer charity? I work as an RN at a cancer center. Weekday event? Exactly what I need since I work weekends only! "Camping?" I'm an Eagle Scout! Cons: Really don't know anyone to split a tent with (I snore). No showers, I guess I could either bring alternate ways of cleansing and shower in Soak City on Friday. Food-being a T1D, I would have to make some arrangement about keeping some rations in case of low blood sugar. I am actually going to think about this.

How Many Years Does Vortex Have Left
I rode Vortex yesterday. First time since 1997. I had no headache after. It is rough. However, I did enjoy myself. I dedicated my ride to my high school buddy Michael, who is now deceased. The first year Vortex opened, Michael and I saw the sign that stated it was an apporximate 2 hour wait. So we went to LaRosa's, ate, and got in line. The line took about 30 minutes. We both barely made it to the bathroom before loosing the pizza. Good times. After this deed was done, we rode many times again. RIP, Michael.

It's not the state fair, but I think the trend is transferable. Our county fair gets worse each year, which causes attendance declines which cuts the budget for next year and is a viscous cycle. The state fair may be similar. Plus the Fair Board has to deal with a vacated Freedom Hall since the KFC YUM! Center now has the basketball team has moved there. It puts the Fair Board in a precarious situation. On another note, it's miserable at Kings Island. But a bad day here is better than a great day other places! And the entrance men's room still has a bad smell. And I hope it was the guest and not the employee, but as I was washing my hands, someone (either the man in a closed stall or the employee mopping in the next stall yelled: "(explicative for coitus) guys, learn to aim your (same explicative with 'in added at the end) (slang for external male external genatalia). Geeze!" Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N900A using Tapatalk

Heading to the park today with a friend and her teenage son. Wish us luck! Hopefully the restrooms will be in better shape than last week. Finally, saw I bad a bacteria mat in my refill cup from 2 weeks ago. (I had left it in the garage, it had about 1" of drink left). Fortunately, I had saved the straw from my shriveled Banshee cup and have some Clorox on hand,

The state fair is August 20th-30th.

Yeah, that is really strange. The labor force is something they really need to work on. They rely on high school students, so I am assuming those days are because public schools are starting. But they have plenty of time to plan around this, other parks do.

I get what you are saying Dieseltech20. I really only go to Louisville to visit my sister, visit KK, or for professional development conferences. I don't have a hatred for the city, I just prefer rural life. Yes, you are a minority in the basketball preferences arena, but the BBN has an influence on the attitude of many folks here towards Louisville in general. I'd love to see Vortex get some kind of renovation. It is such a rough ride that I can't do it anymore, I think the configuration of the restraints are a recipe for migraines.

I don't understand Eastern Kentucky? Born and raised two counties away from Appalachia? Formed relationships via the workplace with folks from Flemingsburg to Middlesboro to Pikeville? Made and maintain relationships with college friends from Appalachia from my first degree at the University of Kentucky? Yes, there is "hate" for the UofL basketball program because the majority of eastern Kentucky residents follow the Big Blue Nation and are diehard supporters. Frankfort and Washington DC are the true objects of mistrust amongst most of the people of the Commononwealth, except the people who are the problem-the politicians. And, having lived 33 of my 45 years after being born in this Commonwealth, I have never heard the western portion referred to as "West Kentucky" but rather western Kentucky. Granted, I am not as familiar with this portion of the state as I live in central Kentucky (near eastern Kentucky) so I may not know the local vernacular. (When I spent nine miserable months in Memphis, THAT state was referred to as East, Middle and West.) Edit to correct punctuation.
