  1. Not a wide variety of music choices.
  2. Or Vortex could explain it better.
  3. I guess Terp could explain it better since he's ridden it, but I assumed it was a Pirates of the Caribbean-like ride at Cedar Point that was next to the Blue Streak.
  4. That's a great regret of mine; going to CP for years and never riding the Pirate Ride, and then it got taken out. SOB was one of the first big coasters I got super hyped on. When I was in the park and saw the model they had of it, I was hooked. Even went to the park multiple times in the off season just to get a glimpse of it building up and get pictures. Diamondback is the kind of coaster that has me psyched again and I've been finding reasons to drive by KI just to glimpse it's construction, so no, I am much happier that we're able to know well in advance what is coming.
  5. I might not have gotten a Season Pass for next season if it wasn't for DB.
  6. Go to The Greene if you want a horse drawn carriage. They do them there starting in December, though I believe you have to pay for them. Next weekend is the Christmas in Springboro festival which is pretty fun (I've gone the last 3 years) and they have horse drawn carriages for free, though they're big have multiple people in them, almost like wagons; but hey, they're free. Also have lots of good food.
  7. I think the biggest reason was that it was too expensive (like $25 for adults) with not a lot to do! Other than ice skating on the fountains, what else was there?? I'm pretty sure no rides ran...and also, as living right by KI for Winterfest in 05, yes, it did snow like 5 inches on a Thursday night (I think Dec. 8th), but other than that, I don't care what people say, the weather was NOT that bad other than that snow! Cold temps? Yes, but nothing freezing, and I recall a couple weekends in the 40's. I also think the promotion was sort of weak in fully explaining Winterfest. They actually had the train running with a unique, though badly executed, idea of a story about WW2 soldiers returning home for Christmas, or something along those lines. Also I believe the Carousel was running. They had some shows and crafts as well, so there were things to do, but they still didn't equal the price of admission.
  8. That building in the back of your futuristic picture looks eerily like something from The Jetsons.
  9. I just kinda drove by and just had my phone on me and the camera on it isn't good for taking shots of things at a long distance, so I didn't even stop at the drop off section to attempt any pics. Next time I get the urge to drive out there, I'll make sure to take the real camera.
  10. I wish I could be out there to hold onto that balloon.
  11. It was a nice day yesterday afternoon so I decided to go driving. I ended up going from Kettering to KI just to see DB and it looks so cool now that the first drop is finished. Now I can't wait to see the 2nd hill rising out of the trees. There is a LOT of track in the parking lot.
  12. Only went twice this year. Once with my fiance for the employee weekend and a second time for free with the season pass purchase. Off year for me since we purchased a house and wanted limited distractions while we fixed it up. Next summer will be Diamondback time as we hit the park as much as we can with our passes.
  13. I love it down there. My Grandmother lives in Dandridge which is about 10 miles from the exit on 40 to go to Sevierville, Pigeon Forge, and Gatlinburg. I go down to visit her and the mountains at least once a year. I thought about incorporating the area in my survival story but couldn't find a good reason to. Haven't been to Dollywood in about 10 years and almost went this year if not for my short stay down there. Maybe next season. Can't get off work for the Coasterfest. Have fun.
  14. I agree to some degree with both sides of the "defensive riding" argument. I don't think you should have to have some insider knowledge to enjoy a coaster. Like SOB; if you need to find a particular colored train, car, seat, time of day, temperature, wind speed, riding style, month, even or odd numbered year, clothing style, suitable religion, college major, riding partner, Christmas gift idea...etc.. all just to enjoy the coaster, then that's not a good thing. On the other hand, a lot of people enjoy coasters because of negative and lateral G's which will throw you around and, depending on the coaster, you have to accept that there's a chance that if you don't hold on you're going to be at the mercy of the layout. Take The Legend and Voyage. I chose to ride them multiple times in succession one trip with hands up the whole time and it was awesome, but after so many rides my legs were sore had bruises where they were pressed against the lap bars with all the G's. I'm sure if I had ridden defensively; that wouldn't have happened, but either way; I would have had fun on the coaster.
  15. I'm all for a chat room if that's possible.
  16. Do they have high fencing on either side to keep objects from being dropped on the track?
  17. Wouldn't a bridge over a speeding coaster be a safety hazard for the riders? I mean, people would be standing there watching the coaster coming; full plastic cup of soda in their hand then they drop it just as a train is flying under the bridge. Doesn't seem like they'd allow for that kind of situation.
  18. Hey, I just noticed that they posted my question on the blog. I asked about the significance of the different colored supports. Woohoo! I was at the park on Friday, but couldn't get any good pics of DB because it was pitch black when I got back there. I'll write up a TR soon.
  19. Woohoo! I'm going to KI tonight so I can see all this in person!
  20. Results! Now they just need to get away from that close-up of the splash down. It was cool at first but now it just looks like dirty concrete.
  21. I went to Halloweekends last year on a Saturday (I think I trip reported it here) and it was horrible. I'll never go on a Saturday again. There were huge lines for everything including bathrooms and ATM's. We waited for food near the front of the park for almost an hour. Next year it's Friday for me.
  22. I'm disappointed that I didn't get up there this year. First time in like 10 years that I haven't but I'm planning on making up for it next year.
  23. I'm supposed to be there Friday with a group of folks.
