Starting to Decode 2014
Yeah that was a joke. I wasn't trying to get into an Intamin vs B&M debate, so i was just trying to lighten it up a bit. I was under the impression RCCA wasn't actually out of business, they just haven't done anything in 10 years. As far a Wicked Twister, i was just naming the Intamin attractions at CP that are allegedly crap and fails.

"Because Intacraps are the only thing in the park?" Obviously Gatekeeper is a big draw to CP this year, but prior to that, i will go out on a limb and say MF, Maverick, TTD and Wicked Twister (Intamin) were by far a bigger draw than Mantis and Raptor (B&M). I have no study to back that up, but I am comfortable making that statement. So, we're all in agreement that RCCA is not in charge of this project and making a comeback?

Yeah I mentioned Bizarro and El Toro. I was just trying to make the case that we don't "know" this new ride is a B&M yet. I mentioned Intamin builds quality and are quite versitile which brought a picture of laughter to some. I'm not favoring either over the other. Intamin has built and continues to build some really good rides, and to just act like there's no chance Intamin could be behind this new ride seems short sighted to me. If what we are seeing is the beginning of a giga coaster, i would rather it be an Intamin so that it is different from Diamondback in more ways than just taller and faster. However, I am sure i will enjoy whatever they are building.

The "line to ride them" is only there because they are down all the time... That was a good one. I wonder if the gate is broke down too at CP creating an illusion of all those people wanting to get in there to ride those crappy Intamins?

Not trying to turn this thread into an Intamin vs B&M, but I will just say ... Intafail? No quality? So Milennium Force, Bizarro, Top Thrill Dragster, El Toro, I-305, Cheetah Hunt, Maverick, Formula Rossa, etc, yeah those coasters are garbage. That explains why there's never a line to ride them. Wonder how such a non quality producing company can do it for 35 years. Thanks for the pics Oldiesmann.

I kind of followed the I-305 construction, and they were getting the parts in before they had set any footers or cleared the land. With KI setting footers and already having cleared the land, I would assume we will start seeing parts come in very soon. From there we should be able to determine the company. I just hope they bring back Montel for the announcement. He did such a stellar job with SOB. He was smooth and looked totally comfortable. Now to insert the <sarcasm> tag.

I agree it does make sense for them to use B&M, but Intamin builds quality and has the versatility to build anything. Intamin dominates CP and barely has a footprint in KI. I'm just saying we don't really know yet. I agree with you, B&M did deliver with Diamondback. The area that has been cleared, appears to be very large. I can't help but think it's been cleared mainly for this ride we are beginning to see footings for. In looking at the footings for Leviathan and I-305, the ones we see do appear to be smallish in comparison. But there's so much space.

I would love to agree, but unless i missed some info, in reality we don't even know if it's a B&M. All we know is there is a fence with a sign and footings being set behind that fence.

Kings Dominion broke ground on Intimidator 305 on June 1, 2009 and the erection of Leviathan began during the week of 11 September 2011. I don't know I-305 but this article from aug 19, 2011 says laying foundation has already begun for Leviathan. http://forums.canadiancontent.net/hot-topics/101326-new-leviathan-coaster-could-crack.html ... From the article: "Construction has already begun on the steel structure, with crews laying out its foundation. Tracks will be brought to the site in the coming weeks, Beaven said." I can't find a specific date though.

I think you either misread or made a typo. It's rebar, and that is an indicator of how much concrete will be used. The more rebar, the more footers or bigger footers. It reinforces the concrete and also the steel. I just learned rebar is short for reinforcing bar.

That's a good article and good pics. I think most of us have made the assumption the majority of footings we are looking at is for a transfer track. The rest ... i have no idea. After a couple weeks of seeing in person, seeing pics and reading the discussion, I am in the same place I started. I have no idea, and I am trying to enjoy it because it won't be long until we do know and the surprise and mystery will be no longer. I think if it is to be called Banshee, it will be like a maverick type blitz coaster. Personally I am holding out hope for a giga until it is too obvious it's not.

That picture is interesting because a lot of discussion has been about the square vs. circular footings. In the pic we see both. The rows look similar to the pics of KI construction also. And that fence, looks almost exactly like the fence here! The fence is the giveaway. (Ok I'm just kidding about the fence) I'm sure a lot of early construction looks similar. I haven't really seen a lot of roller coaster construction pics.

Of course ... and the "bone chilling screams" are from the people getting splinters trying to hang on. The marketing practically writes itself. A dueling, wooden trained, steel tracked, winged strata.

Don't a lot of coaster names have negative connotation? Hades, Tower of Terror, Diamondback, Saw, Rage, Buzz Saw, TN Tornado ... I don't really understand that. Is Banshee any more negative than The Beast? The ride is supposed to scare you, and so should the name. Banshee is a good name, but unfortunately has already been discussed which takes some of the effectiveness away.

That's how I found this place. I was looking for possible speculation, and I definitely found it.

What? But that's the point of this thread isn't it. Say what you want KI to get, and everything to the contrary is diversion or ridiculous.

I'm just throwing it out there because it would be a tie in with Action Zone. I was just using the "Pterodactyl" reference to DA. But what else flies only as high as average trees? Zip line popularity has grown tremedously over the last couple years and the designers have made them extremely safe. So you're telling me Son of Beast and Thunder Alley were pulverized so the park can add a long zip line to Dinosaurs Alive.Mkay.. No, If you read my posts you would see I wasn't stating that at all. What I said was it could be referencing mutlple attractions. I think the construction we see is for a coaster, but I was suggesting the tweets maybe referencing something else since they seem to be totally unrelated to what we all want in our hearts which is a new roller coaster.

Obviously front and back are opposites so one would think that's not what I meant. I meant the same side of the park and can be connected with something like a zip line type attraction.
-
Starting to Decode 2014
Perhaps they are putting in more than one thing and each set of clues has been a reference to different attractions. Maybe the "sign" is for one thing and the tweet is referencing something else. If a Pterodactyl only flies as high as the tree tops, it could be referencing some kind of zip line. I don't think so, but it came to mind with Action Zone and DA being somewhat in the same vacinity.

I thought about a dive, too. I think the closest one is Griffon in VA. It turns up on a lot of top coaster lists so some people must like it. If i remember correctly, there are only 2 in the US. It would be a good move for KI because it would definitely draw attention and lure people who have never ridden one. It's not my first choice, but I could definitely see them putting one in.

Whew, glad you showed up to set it straight. Well, there it is. The sign is telling us it's a Vortex style looper. I don't know how I didn't see it. Son of Vortex, or they can just shorten it to Sex.

Maybe a little off topic and probably already discussed, but I read that the old six flag KY is planning a reopening in '14. I never visited, but I saw they have like 4 coasters and plans to build a $15 mil one for the opening. This will draw some business away from KI even if it is a much lesser park. Hopefully whatever CF has in mind can be bold enough to offset whatever loss they may get. Granted the $15 mil price tag doesn't scream "you have to ride this" it will still probably be a cool roller coaster. $15 mil is still a lot of money. CF needs to make sure KI is the only place around that matters, and I think a play off The Beast or SOB is a gamble as some will see it as dated and old hat. Although, seeing the sign and knowing the sentimental value of all things Beast, I can't dismiss the possibility of some sort of SOB resurrection.

^^^ I took a look through the fence, and all i saw was cleared dirt. I know some other people said they saw footers, i didn't. I have since seen some overhead shots and I still don't see anything that indicates anything to me. I came across this video that is pretty clear.

^^I agree. I went opening day and I think I'll be there again this weekend. I had to peek through the fence last weekend and I'll be peeking through again this weekend and every time I go. I have no idea what I'll be looking at or looking for, but that won't stop me. I just hope they get to the bottom of whatever is making those mysterious noises and bone chilling screams so the workers can safely get some work done.
