  1. I never really had a problem with it either (other than the abrupt braking strip hault at the end). My buddies and I used a trick to lower the "bicycle seat" part of the restraint to avoid any mishaps to the lower region. If the seat sat too high the ups and downs could prove quite painful...if you ya know what I mean ~Josh

I grew up in Chesapeke, Ohio and watched Mr. Cartoon daily. My sister and I appeared on the show in the spring of 1987. Where did you hear that Jule had passed? There are no records stating that he had died and I even searched the Herald Dispatch obituaries and it yielded no results. I read an article about his reflections as one of the last children show hosts just a year or so back. ~Josh
  3. I cannot imagine how different my teenage years would've been without having worked at KI. If you have a chance to work at the park DO IT!
  4. I had to walk by the tent/structure they had set up for the titanic attraction everyday for work, but never took the time to go through it. This was the summer of 97 right? Looks like it would've been pretty neat! ~Josh
  5. Here's a sneak peak of the episode: http://www.masslive....ason_premi.html Unfortunately, doesn't look like the footage has anything to do with KI. Kinda curious what parts of the park are going to be investigated.
  6. I first began searching for that film during the summer of 2000. I first learned all the details from one of Coneys executives and shot emails to every possible lead. I called WCET who led me to a production company in Canada, which led me nowhere and back again...If you ever find it, please let us know! ~Josh
  7. What I would like to know is why they were called in. I know a lot of the reality tv shows are based in partial truth and then a script is put in order, but having been an employee at KI several season, and having worked there all through the night from time to time, I never heard any complaints about hauntings or paranormal activity - at least until I joined KI Central I haven't watched GH for several years now, but am looking forward to this episode. ~Josh
  8. If this has been discussed please delete. I ran a search and yielded nothing, so I went ahead and posted. Saw the trailer and they mentioned their hunt would take place at a Mason, Ohio amusement park...hmmm http://www.examiner.com/tv-ghost-hunters-in-national/ghost-hunters-season-8-premiere ~Josh
  9. I love this thread I always wanted to do something like this with Coney Island. Hopefully someone will be inspired by this thread and do the same down there
  10. I was a major part of getting historic looking signs and poles added to my historic neighborhood but (lock-n-load JD), some of the landscaping in those 74 shots would be so gaudy today. Times change. I'm not so sure I agree with the "gaudy" statement. The original intent of this type of landscaping was to bring Europe to Ohio...to see something you wouldn't see anywhere else. If I were to visit Europe today, a main draw would be to the landscapes that are somewhat unfamiliar in the states - namely their centuries old gardens. Sure times change, but there will always exist a subconscious common ground that effects guests senses in either a positive or negative way. The Coney Mall in 74 says "beauty and guest experience first" as a means to draw you back for another visit. I know for most its about the rollercoasters and none of this matters, but for some that's not all that matters when they visit. I just worry how much more vegetation will suffer in order to serve the almighty dollar in years to come. In any case, you can see this kind of landscaping (or lack thereof) just about anywhere...boring I would have loved to see the sculpted ginkgo trees return to this part of the park during this last seasons revamp, but more-so I hope the landscaping will be highly regarded in the future!
  11. The logo you are referring to was used up until around 08 in the flower bed just in front of the former Paramount Story area (adjacent to the Eiffel Tower). It wasn't a mistake that it was planted to resemble that early logo. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I've seen retro style logos on souvenir t's and sweatshirts on I-Street this season. Interesting factoid, if it hasn't been mentioned anywhere before - the old marque that was blown over in that wind storm back in 04 had traces of the old logo just behind the Paramount logo. Even though it had been painted over in white, If you stood close enough the outline of the logo and the portholes from the lighting system were still visible. ~Josh
  12. This post is bringing back more memories that I had anticipated. As for evidence of Paramount still around, most of the internal paperwork we use still has the Paramount logos on them...they will be used until they run out and newly "re-logo'd" paperwork is printed. Several accounts from vendors and the like all continue using the PKI name. I believe it was mentioned that the payroll checks still say Paramount - this is an example of another institution having yet to change the name in their system. And in regard to CBS taking over, this is the reason I quit working for PKI in the late 90's. I felt that their efforts were non futile to the success of the park. I no longer wanted to be a part of it. It was, however, very exciting when I first started working there in 1995, but I watched each sub sequent year lacking in areas of guest relations, attraction placement, shows, etc. I believe I share similar opinions about where the park is now with others who have fond memories before the PKI days. It is my opinion that CF has demonstrated great efforts in revitalizing the earlier park we knew (as best they can given the market they now target). I don't believe it will ever "feel" like it did when I was a kid having visited for the first time in 1983...and I'm sure several who visited before me will say the same. It is what it is and "it" is still a beautiful park! JMO
  13. Would it not make more sense for it to be another Dinosaur walk-through attraction like DA? Other parks are getting one as well in 2012, so it appears...
  14. Well, if your turning 16 to day...then you're all set jk...In any case, what you were hearing was the audition. As I stated, every attraction calls for different characters and you will audition for the character they have in mind for you. It's a bit ackward, but they will say "ok, you're a zombie and this is the scenario..." Very quick, very short. "Now scream to the top of your lugs"...good, "now let's get a picture of you and you're set". You'll be in and out in a matter of 5 min. At this point they may or may not tell you which attraction you will be placed in. If it's a new attraction, very little details will be shared. You will then read a disclosure form, that you will need to sign with your own blood, to promise not to share with the media what you may, or may not, have seen/heard. It's all just for fun...pricking your finger for blood - not so much ~Josh
  15. That was exactly what I was going to say. Each house is different and requires something unique from each "scare actor". What you will find out when you are placed is that each scare area will involve a distraction then the initial scare. The manager of that attraction will be moving you around until they get the sequence just right (every attraction will vary in this aspect. each attraction requires its own unique elements). It's very much like creating a picture on a movie set. When employees do run-throughs, before the attraction is opened to guests, park management will then determine whether the attraction is under or overdone. At that point several elements are changed (environment props, actor placement, etc.). When we opened Urgent Scare in 08 my room underwent 8 to 10 changes before the attraction opened to the public. Some elements they loved, while others needed tweaking - the beds needed moved to make more room for guests...then the props got in the way...beds were then switched from one side of the room to the other...then the actor who was distracting was too obvious...then he wasn't, but the scare actor was...and so on. You get the picture. As others in this post have said, working in a house can be very physically demanding and, in most cases, it gets very difficult to keep up the stamina after several hours of repeating your performance on a loop...but...when you are capable of multiple scares in one single group, and you have your formula/performance down, you will have a blast I'll likely be at the starting point transforming your faces into monsters, zombies and ghosts this year...see you there! ~Josh
  16. What was in the time capsule? Does anyone have any pictures? I can't find anything on the subject on the net...
  17. I admit I only rode it one time. I worked for the park 2 separate seasons (the last and with the carnival owners who Jerry leased the park to). I love wooden coasters, never judging the size, height, etc. just the overall ride experience, and I thought this was a really fun coaster! The banked turnaround was my favorite part. I only wish that when they tear down historic rides such as this they would allow enthusiast to have a small piece of wood from the structure to remember it by
  18. I pass by Lesourdsville Lake everyday for work and noticed two days ago that the lift-hill of the Screechin Eagle was missing. Today when passing by it appears that the entire coaster has now been demolished. Although I've known that the coaster would never run again, it is still very hard to see it completely gone ~Josh
  19. That has actually been rumored for a very long time. There was some chit-chat about that when I was still a manager at the park during the 2001 season. And, more recently, I was told this once more in 2008 by a full-time staff employee. ~Josh
  20. I always wondered how much of the ride was dismantled and reconstructed at KI and how much was left to be demolished (and still underground today having been filled in).
  21. Another good one from my family photo album:
  22. I just wanted to chime in as well and thank you for this thread! It's been a great deal of fun logging on everyday awaiting the next photo of the day. And it's hard to believe that those 100 days went by so fast! Paul I think the only thing left now is to do a follow up of all the photos that didn't make the list just to get us to full season daily operations May 13th Thanks again! ~Josh
  23. I'll never forget my first ride experience on The Beast. I was somewhat terrified and kept asking the ride op all kinds of questions to eliminate all surprises...her response: "Just get in!" And what a thrill it was!!!
