  1. It was great! I heard crowd estimates at over 30,000! We ran out of Kettle Corn by the time the fireworks started. And the rain stayed away. The rides stayed open past midnight! pilotank
  2. They better move them fast. The Ohio River is approaching flood stage. Riverbend has already canceled the James Taylor concert! pilotank
  3. Yes, Congratulations! What was nice is the placement of the rides. Right where the midway use to be. pilotank
  4. I went to Belterra Park for my 80 yoa mom on Mother's Day. The big topic of conversation was that BP is up for sale. The owner's Pinnacle Entertainment, whom also own Belterra Casino are in talks with Gaming and Leisure Properties. Pinnacle would still manage. I found this article in the Cincinnati Enquirer: http://www.cincinnati.com/story/money/2015/05/04/belterra-owner-sale-talks/26887019/ The quality of thoroughbreds is about the same as River Downs. The big difference is that only 5 to 6 horses in each race. I hope this won't affect CI. They seemed to work nicely with BP last year. pilotank
  5. Yeah, as much as I am a huge proponent to return Coney to it's glory days (circa 1970), to deal with the flooding year after year has to take it's toll. Since Belterra Park also had to shut down, maybe some type of flood control could be implemented. Probably a flood wall would be the easiest, but very expensive. pilotank
  6. I was actually at a wedding reception there. You may know them Deb Haas and Eddie Fingers of WLW. It was excellent and Coney did an awesome job. However, you would need an extremely large crowd or it will seem empty. pilotank
  7. Wow! They do look identical. I need to make a trip to Chattanooga. pilotank
  8. The train tunnels are still visible when you drive into the west gate! They would also use them to store the trains. Does anyone know what happened to the trains after CI closed? pilotank
  9. By the way, has anyone ever found Coney Island: Relive the Magic? It is a documentary filmed in the 80's by WCET. Several members have been looking for it for about a decade now with no luck. If someone has a copy, maybe upload it to YouTube? Thanks, pilotank
  10. You can still purchase it at the Administration Building. I bought one for a Christmas present for my brother. Steve
  11. How ironic, the reason Chester Park closed is because they were in the process of restructuring financially but couldn't pay their water bill! pilotank
  12. It's actually on the other side of Union Terminal, on the way to the riverboat. pilotank
  13. We should be hearing about the new ride very shortly. The top CI officials are down in Florida purchasing the new ride as we speak. They are keeping it very quiet about the type of ride. Hopefully we will know very soon. They are also sprucing up the fountain by the administration building putting in new pavers. pilotank
  14. I asked around during the fireworks on September 21st. The most I heard was nothing was set in concrete. Sorry, no pun intended. Which usually means nothing for next year because of budgetary concerns. There was a rumor about another kids flat ride similar to the old Whip. pilotank
  15. It was quite a different contrast from last year. No one was prepared for the large crowd that showed up last year. I don't know if there was a smaller crowd but everything went smooth as silk. The fireworks were huge and spectacular. There was plenty of food and drinks for everyone. All traffic was out by 30 minutes after the show! Overall, Definitely should receive an A! pilotank
  16. The weather is suppose to be bad for high school football tonight, but it is suppose to clear up for Saturday and a great day for fireworks! Weekend Forecast Updated: Sep 20, 2013, 9:14am EDT Today Sep 20 86°F 62°F PM T-Storms Chance of rain: 40% Wind: SSW at 13 mph Sat Sep 21 72° 46° T-Showers Chance of rain: 70% Wind: NW at 14 mph Sun Sep 22 69° 42° Mostly Sunny Chance of rain: 10% Wind: NNE at 9 mph
  17. Hello Everyone, I'll be working Sweetmaize Kettle Korn. We are actually going to have two Kettle's going! Last year, there was probably close to 30,000 people. All vendors were completely sold out before the fireworks started. Get to the park early! Come by and get a free sample! pilotank
  18. The Museum of Natural History at Union Terminal also has a working replica of Coney Island, but not on this scale. pilotank
  19. If you look at the park using Google Earth or Maps: http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=couch+rv+nation&bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&bvm=bv.44158598,d.dmg&biw=1280&bih=827&wrapid=tlif136422674434010&um=1&ie=UTF-8&sa=N&tab=wl Sadly you'll see the major attractions are gone. Screechin Eagle Raging Thunder Log Flume Liberty Train Sky Ride. Most of the buildings are still up. pilotank
  20. Here is one more by Queen City Discovery: Also, this is their website for LeSourdsville Lake. http://queencitydiscovery.blogspot.com/2007/10/lesourdsville-lakeamericana-revisited_29.html Great Pictures! pilotank
  21. Weather Channel has a great blog on abandoned theme parks from Chippewa Lake Park to the Ukraine: http://www.weather.com/travel/creepy-abandoned-theme-parks-20130320?pageno=5 Before: Now: pilotank
  22. Actually, now you are putting words about what I think. Number one, this is actually going to be an economic boost to Anderson Township. The Racino will bring more taxable revenue to Hamilton Co. than CI could do in 10 years. Not to mention the job creation involved here. I merely asked the question to the members of this forum what their opinion is, and whether CI will ever be the same. I actually have been going to Coney for over 40 years, my parents before that and my grandparents before that. Our family has over eight season pass holders since 1982. My brother-in law actually is a vendor for CI and I work all the major events. My brother is an archaeologist and has conducted Indian Research at CI. So I do have a great interest in what happens. I would like nothing more to see CI flourish and be around for my grandkids. With that being said, what keeps CI going is it's pool. The rides are secondary along with the picnic area for corporations. My two girls take swim lessons, and you should hear the complaints from patrons when concerts interfere with getting their kids to the lessons on time. Parking is a nightmare now when Riverbend has a major event. My point of view is that this will damage the very fabric that keeps CI going. Isn't this forum for voicing one's opinion? pilotank
  23. Coasters RZ, I was wondering if you have heard anything about the ownership regarding Brenda Walker? Does she still own CI or has it been turned over to other family members? The owners seem to be very quiet regarding the future. The problem I see is that CI has maintained a very friendly family environment. How will this affect the perception? pilotank
  24. It has begun! O'Rourke Wrecking Company has set up a staging area in the RD's parking lot. There are cranes, earth movers and bull dozers ready to go. Let the carnage begin. pilotank
