  1. From the KI Twitter just today.
  2. Well then next year should be your year. Look in to the rumors for Outlaw at Silver Dollar City. Not only is their an "outside banked turn" (already completed) that really looks completely inverted IMO, there is rumored to be a "double barrel roll" (close enough to a corkscrew) at the end of the ride. This is all based on accidentally leaked info on Silver Dollar City's website, which has since been removed. The announcement is on Thursday.
  3. Uh, what? Maybe I'm missing the context and this was meant to be a joke, maybe you forgot, but.... http://rcdb.com/10108.htm
  4. "X-Works" has been on labels for the last few years because enthusiasts were finding out where coasters were going before they were announced by heading out to the Batavia Steel plant and checking out all the track. This is just a proactive effort by the plant and B&M to prevent people finding out about rides before the park has a chance to announce them (or at least before they show up on site)... This is also not headed to CP. The "Job No" listed on this track is different than the job number listed on the crates (labeled "rollercoaster bolts" or something along those lines) that have already been spotted at CP.
  5. I think the only one that truly kills it for me was the installation of the magnetic breaks after the first drop and turn, heading into the second drop. The airtime used to be great there, and now it delivers nothing.
  6. Gordon, that section of track you couldn't identify in the 5th picture looks like the overbank uphill after the first drop and before the rose bowl (From RCDB): Awesome pictures! It's sad that such an epic idea turned out so poorly.
  7. Uhhh didn't CP just do this exact same song at the end of last week to promote Carly Rae Jepsen coming to the park? Let me answer that for ya... yes! And it was posted 4 days earlier. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pAOHXac9rKI
  8. I was wondering the exact same thing. I think this is easily the 3rd I've seen in the last week. If it were something major, obviously that would warrant a new topic IMO. But come on, rides break down and close...we get it.
  9. I agree with a lot of what is being said here. One of the most incredible themes I've seen just opened up. Cars land at DCA looks absolutely amazing, especially at night: http://thedisneyblog.com/2012/06/08/cars-land-the-magic-is-in-the-details/
  10. ^ "There's a series of bank billboards (I think it's 5/3)"
  11. I especially loved this: "You can't really get a coaster 200 feet high on level ground." How times change! The variations in the model to reality are interesting. As mentioned, there was a bunnyhop that carries it farther under the second lift at the first left turn. Interestingly, it also shows it going underground on the second drop also. The entry to the final helix being different is extremely interesting. Was the model made correctly or was the ride changed at some point along the way (concerning the bunny hop after the first drop and final helix)?!
  12. I always thought the same thing, especially in the awkward diagonals. But if you look at all of the coasters that RCCA built around the world, they all have that "misaligned" and "unorganized" look, especially in the lateral and diagonal support structure. http://www.rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&co=6918
  13. I would imagine that the trims were put in place because of the roughness of the ride. Now that they have smoothed the ride so dramatically, hopefully they can remove at least the second trim, if not both. That was my thought too. But obviously I am by no means an engineer. Usually it is to help maintain the structure or for safety reasons. Since The Beast operated for decades without them, I'd imagine it's more to help make the structure last since it's aging. I can't imagine the trim on the second drop is hugely beneficial in that sense and it really kills the major section of air on that ride. I really miss the air time on that hill. I would agree that the speed on the second half of the ride is the same, since it likely slowed to the same speeds... but there is no way the first half of the ride is the same speed, with a heavy trim on the first and second hill, which weren't previously there (I'm certain of the second hill, not so much the first).
  14. I'm glad to hear it is running better than it has in a long time. Honestly, I have been losing more and more interest in the ride over the last few years... the ridiculous shuffling and roughness being the main reason. I'm by no means one who would take a forceless glass smooth ride, but The Beast had gotten really bad. Next up, here's to hoping they remove the airtime-killing trim on at least the second drop. Two trims on the first two drops has just plain neutered the ride compared to even ten years ago. There needs to be a balance between trimming to maintain safety and structure and laying off the trims to maintain some of the speed and airtime.
  15. The great thing about season passes is, if the the crowds are too much for you or you can't stay long, you can always come back another day. That's why I've always loved the pass: you can go on a whim without planning and not be concerned if it's going to be too crowded or too hot and ruin the one day you have (if you don't have a pass).
  16. Not to fuel the debate over color, but Vortex looks Orange and Blue to me. Compare the color of the track to Diamondback or Firehawk, you can tell there is a difference. It may not be the actual orange of the ride itself, but oh well.
  17. Unless I'm wrong, that is KI's Delirium fully built at the HUSS factory in Germany before they shipped it off to KI. They did a full round of tests before shipping it out.
  18. I was felt that they were there completely for show. I've realized after I passed through that I've left my keys in my cargo pocket and walked right through without even a beep. Like people have set, not only did KI get by 30ish years without them, many park (like Cedar Point) still do. I just never saw a point in them if they aren't really being used. That said, didn't the very first weekend the detectors were installed, a guy hold himself at knifepoint in a stand off with police as he tried to pass through? Still, I don't think they are necessary.
  19. I think "Dragster H2O" takes the cake for all time worst name. How in the world was that chosen by CP as a "top 3" and then how did it win in a landslide by a public vote?!
  20. O wow, I somehow totally missed that the posting was for Kings Dominion. That's what I get for not paying attention.
  21. You see what high expectations will get ya......? But, it is a NEW film, is it not? I never paid to see it last year so I'm not entirely sure, but the title is "New for 2012!..." AND it is now free.
  22. We must also account for the fact that this track doesn't have to be staying in the Midwest, or even the US. The plant in Ohio has been producing track for B&M's around the world the last few years. Honestly, IMO, with it being fabricated so early in the year (for next year), I would say that the track has some distance to cover. But that's just a complete guess on my part...
  23. Now it has made Yahoo's front page. Do you think these authors realize it was a spoof/fake article? http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/sideshow/winged-roller-coaster-swarm-rips-arms-off-crash-183513325.html#ugccmt-container
  24. *Insert shameless plug here* I know for a fact that my cousin's ice cream shop, Whipty-Do, in Mainville sells the same Blue Ice-Cream as Kings Island. It is literally just south 5-10 minutes from Kings Island. They too are closed for the season, but I know they have a longer season (by a few months on each end) than KI....for those off-season "blues" (hardy har). http://maps.google.com/maps?q=Whipty+DO,+Maineville,+OH&hl=en&ll=39.310129,-84.213295&spn=0.112896,0.264187&sll=37.0625,-95.677068&sspn=55.806079,82.441406&oq=whipty+d&hq=Whipty+DO,&hnear=Maineville,+Warren,+Ohio&t=m&z=13 Read under "Classic Ice Cream Cake Cones and Cups": http://www.whipty-do.com/Soft_Serve_Love/Menu.html
