The New Texas Giant
Considering the cost to re-do Son of Beast with such a makeover and considering what the ride has already cost, I wouldn't bet on any makeover. However, it would be nice if they could give such a makeover to Mean Streak.

Kings Island: Cedar Fair's test park
When I got my pass processed last weekend, I got a little peak at the construction of Soak City-it really looks like it is going to be spectacular.

First time visiting on opening day
I find that you find a lot ot the enthusiasts at the park on opening day-for me its just a great day to catch up with old friends whom I don't see during the off season. 7 more days and the extended forcast calls for a sunny day in the low to mid 60's.

Flashback to 1972
Was waiting for your two cents ( nickels?) on this subject, Terpy and, as usual, you did not disappoint. That was absolutely beautiful.

Amen, Thrill Bisuit. The Beastie be darned, to me that ride will always be The Scooby Doo coaster.

Fast Lane
Perhaps this will put together what I was trying to express above. In customer service the most important issue is how you value your customer. Yes, the more you pay, the more perks you have but all customers deserve to be valued in the same way.

Fast Lane
I agree that the Fast Lane is here to stay and I accept that. The issue however is how to balance everything so that everyone has a positive guest experience. If KI intends to execute the Fast Lane program the way they executed it at Holloween Haunt, I feel that it will be a failure. To allow the Fast Lane program to double the wait of a great capacity ride like DB ( I timed it one Satuday night-the wait from Rivertown Junction increased from a normal 50 minute wait to 1 hour 55 minute) to me is absolute madness. If management intends to thumb its nose at capacity ( maybe that is not what was intended but that is the impression I got) then I feel that Fast Lane may have the opposite effect of making more money, ie, driving away people who cannot afford the Fast Lane but refuse to wait double the amount of time that the normal wait for a ride would be. I cringe to think what will happen at Cedar Point if the Fast Lane program is implemented in such a way without caring about capacity.
- At least 1 park will get winged coaster in 2013... Who will it be?

Brady Episode Alert: 04/15/12
Sorry Terpie, didn't mean to overlook Bavarian Beetle which was one of my favs too. ( How I miss that ride.) I'm just saying that I recall that people always seemed to say " Let's go on the Roller Coaster" when referring to The Racer in the years before The Beast opened. . I'm just guessing that maybe they didn't consider Bavarian Beetle on the level of a major coaster.

Brady Episode Alert: 04/15/12
I remember that normally in those days, that is how people would refer to The Racer since it was the only major coaster at the park. For example, when people went to the park, they would usually say " Let's go on The Rollercoaster next.", not "Let's go on The Racer."

What`s next for Son of Beast?
Oh, please make an announcement to make this thread stop-it just goes on and on and on like the energizer bunny. ( You know I'm just kidding-lol.)

Flashback to 1972
You're very welcome. I'm having such a blast reminiscing about that year when I was 11 years old and in the 5th grade.

Flashback to 1972
You forgot wcet the first licensed pbs station in the nation, and at the time (1972) had more viewers than wxix 19, and at some peak times, more that the local ABC affiliate wkrc 12. Sorry about that. Speaking of UHF, does anyone still remember if Larry Smith and His Puppets was still around in 1972? ( Battie Hattie from Cincinnati.)

Flashback to 1972
Sorry Don but have to correct you on one fact. The Godfather was released in 1972 but did not win Best Picture until the following year along with Marlon Brando for Best Actor for The Godfather and Liza Minnelli for Best Actress for Cabaret., ( remember, Oscars are awarded for movies in the prior calendar year.) The oscar winner for Best Picture in 1972 was the 1971 release The French Connection. The Best Actor winner was Gene Hackman for The French Connection and the Best Actress winner was Jane Fonda for Klute.

Soak City attraction names released
Whether you call it Mondo Monsoon or Tasmanian Typhoon, to me it will always be the giant toilet bowl.

Flashback to 1972
I wasn't sure whether to categorize this as off topic or a Kings Island topic-I decided to categorize it as the latter since it is sort of related to KI, ie what was happening in 1972, KI's opening year. Anyway, I thought it would be fun for us old geezers who were alive then to reminisce about what was happening in the world then in such areas as pop culture. I remember that at the time of Ki's opening, the top movies were The Godfather, Cabaret and What's Up Doc? ( And this was also a time when such movies would play for many months in exclusive engagements at downtown movie theatres such as What's Up Doc's exclusive run at The Times Towne Cinema in downtown Cincinnati.) The top TV shows included the Saturday night line up of All in the Family and The Mary Tyler Moore Show. ( And at that time there were just four television stations which included the three national networks of NBC, CBS, and ABC and the local UHF station of channel 19 in Cincinnati. ) And Saturday mornings still had those wonderful cartoons like The Bugs Bunny/Roadrunner Hour. ( What happened to those wonderful Saturday cartoons?) I am sure ohers in my age group such as Terpie will want to put in their two cents on this topic.

What are you looking forward to the most this 40th anniversary season?
More than anything, I am looking forward to seeing all the fun people that I don't get the chance to see off season, especially the wild and crazy DB ERT gang.

KI commercials starring Dick Van Dyke
Those commercials would have been great with Mary Tyler Moore yelling "Oh, Robbbb!!!!" during the ride. ( lol.)

Ride Rotation
Any ride for Invertigo-seriously, I just can't take the heavy g's on that ride. Also, although this wouldn't really be a trade, it would have been nice if Demon Drop had been moved to KI instead of Dorney Park.

Opening Day (date)
Kings Island actually did used to routinely open the first weekend in April. I remember the weather often being pretty lousy especially opening weekend in 2002 when Tombraider opened. I assume that the opening has been moved back because of the unreliability of the weather in early April-you certainly can't justify the expense of opening the park when the weather is lousy.

Classic KI Pics
Across the midway to the right, I see Enchanted Voyage. ( Now Boo Blasters-boooo for getting rid of Enchanted Voyage.)

It was Winnie Witch. ( P.S.-I remember parking in the Penelope Pitstop section.)
