  1. I think it should be noted that a family oriented ride can also be thrilling. Dollywood for example considers Wild Eagle a family coaster even working with B&M to lower the height requirement. Powder Keg at SDC also is considered a family ride and many more examples just in those two parks. I would like to add to that Cheetah Hunt just to prove Intamin can build a launched and inverting coaster that is also a family ride. Not all families have children under 48" or whatever height requirement and I'm sure Mr. Ouimet understands that you can't please every family dynamic with every addition. Maybe this time he's going after families with children over (insert height) and maybe next time we'll get something like Antique Cars that will go after an even broader demographic. My biggest point in this is don't think that just because a company is expressing a desire to please their biggest paycheck doesn't mean there can't be thrill, and when and if the thrills become lacking they can fill that void.
  2. I too would think Great America would be the most thrill oriented of the choices. However if you do choose Dollywood also consider many thrills are found outside the park. Depending on when you go the Smoky Mountain Alpine Coaster may have opened by then. Here's a link to their facebook https://www.facebook.com/SmokyMountainAlpineCoaster?ref=stream they haven't released an opening date yet but construction seems to be wrapping up.
  3. ^ Phantoms and Eagles, awe makes me miss when KI had both.
  4. Given the parameters it seems either choice would leave you a bit underwhelmed. What were the other choices before you narrowed it down?
  5. To be fair I'll agree the recent B&M's do seem to do very little after the MCBR's. However, when it comes to B&M's the MCBRs generally only slow the train as much as the trims. Considering the amount of trims on them unless your paying attention the MCBR just feels like the rest of the ride.
  6. ^ Indeed Drop Tower is a great ride but things could be better, for me at least. I do think Kings Dominion's would be a more likely candidate though.
  7. I wonder if Drop Tower could one day be retrofitted with the Falcon carriages? This will be a must ride for me, and the only time other than GIB's the redundant seat belts on the harnesses seem a pretty much mandatory for my ridership. Then again B&M flyers don't bother me but I get to see it ratchet into position.
  8. After seeing The Bat and Beast cartoon commercials I'd love to see something like those to introduce whatever the next attraction is.
  9. ^Good point, well their welcome to use it if they see it.
  10. I'd love to see S&S take this concept to the next level. I imagine taking 4d seats which would engage to the rail at the top. Face you straight down before release then tumble head over heels before landing on your back, then slowly lowered into seated position. I actually wrote them this idea many years ago but never got a reply.
  11. I'd prefer the trains resemble an Airstream. Hmm Airstream would be a cool name for an Invert and a great sponsorship to tie in reopening a campground.
  12. I shall return this year. Tentative plan is Kings Island Friday(9/6), then driving up to Sandusky Sat morning. Dependant on funds likely stay at Kalarahari then Cedar Point Sunday. Would be cool to meet up with some forum folks.
  13. I'd love to see a group fight back and win but if they generally offer a reasonable licensing with proceeds to charity I'm ok with it. I doubt Kentucky Kingdom was offered a fee quite as reasonable though.
  14. That's an interesting point. Is it possible they designed Diamondback to deliberately jackhammer as part of the ride experience? Oh no please don't actually think that. Though I guess it could also mimic the rumble of a Nascar and the growl of a Behemoth. I do doubt it was intentional though but hey add a little theme and it's like now with rumble effects. Back on topic though, what I wonder is with the triangle footers which signify generally a meeting of multiple supports. Which generally occurs on tighter radii but not generally in low force areas. Why so close to the presumed station area? Not trying to be an expert just trying to decode.
  15. I think the jack hammering or rattle on Diamondback has to do with the elongated trains more than anything.... then again shouldn't a Diamondback rattle?
  16. ^ Three years just to bring it back to less than what it once was, which was still a bit underwhelming. At a much higher price, if a bank wouldn't loan before why would they now at a higher than expected risk. Unless someone ponies up a bunch of their own money I'll say the park is gone and I'll sadly expect no such person does. I wanted to see this open and strive I feel the nail has been placed awaiting the strike of a hammer.
  17. ^ Wouldn't that be Son of Grizzly? I'll just call it Cub, but I guess that would work better at Great America with the flags and I'm not speaking penants.
  18. ^ Or they could simply build a coaster that utilizes it's momentum in a way it could make it back up to the station even if it utilizes a ravine drop.
  19. Just a thought and admittedly an unlikely one, but with all the attention being diverted to the old SOB spot. What if the new attraction only used the area we currently see work in while keeping the rest for future expansion. Then instead of using SOB land it went towards the entrance to make its own "front gate statement." I haven't been to KI yet this year but I don't guess there's any evidence of that possibilty is there? Like the plant stand footings as example.
  20. ^^ That story feels like something Merlin would do.
  21. Wow I was thinking the same thing. A play on words with "soar" and Dino"saur". Great minds think alike I guess. I can take no credit for that name as Cedar Fair trademarked it before the WindSeekers.
  22. Mine would be.... Type- B&M Invert Height-220' Drop- 235' Inversions- 6 Track Color- YellowIsh green Supports- Almost white with lift hill supports red Theme- how does one theme a Strata-Soar? Yes I know strata implies 400' + but doesn't have to.
  23. ^Yes... Days of Thunder was my first motion seat ride I ever rode. Loved it, granted it ws the 8th grade field trip to Kings Dominion.
  24. She is truly a gem of a human being and I'm very glad to be from the same foothills as she.
  25. I know the Virginia one is the Intamin one I was meaning that it is much more intimidating than that Carolina one. Cincy doesn't like Nascar? Blasphemy! I guess I need to get out of the South more often or not.
