  1. Want to bet steel beams doesn't warp due to weather? I have seen it happen, not on a roller coaster but I have seen beams that have warped over time from being out in the sun. Railroad rails for example are solid steel and the sun does warp them. They also flex vertically naturally but once the crossties(wood or concrete) go bad under the rail, it can develop a sagging dip.
  2. http://rcdb.com/9972.htm?p=52137 Wood track under the steel topper track. After time, this wood will rot and have to be replaced otherwise the ride smoothness will be impacted. Therefore making it structural(the topper track is attached to it not the wooden structure) and a wooden coaster. Mine trains are steel because the rails are attached to steel crossties and sometimes steel spine that attachs to the wooden structure. My personal take is if any wood is used on the rails is structural(not decorative) then it is wooden whereas if the rails are steel only, it is a Hybrid. Coney Island Cyclone is a famous wooden coaster but uses steel supports. I vote for the amusement industry to come up with a Universial wood or steel code for enthusiasts to follow. Lol
  3. Well I was going to say that B&M Flyers tend to lower capacity like the Vekoma coasters but RCDB seems to contradict that. However I will offer this thought as to why I thought that. Superman at SFOG had the longest line of day I went in 2006. Longer and slower moving than Goliath. I always figured this was the reason Paramount and Cedar Fair stayed away from them. However Superman blows Vekoma flyers out the water.
  4. So they going to give the record to a coaster with less inversions or one with more that doesn't exist? I can't believe anyone pays attention to Guinness World Records, most of the records I seen in one of their books were so absurd or specific it was well absurd.
  5. I dare guess the notion that I use Carowinds removing Thunder Road is laughable to him. Being 280 pounds sadly I don't fit in the four B&Ms anymore nor do I fit on Aerial Chase(that is good thing, my daughter loves it.) I rode Fury once but haven't been able ride since. It really stinks being obese. Losing weigh ain't easy, but I am down from 295. A lot of setbacks throughout 2015.
  6. Can anyone explain the two Wildcats? I understand there were two, they were identical minus a small details but why?
  7. Note the photos for Carowinds. Saturator and Intimidator, one of which doesn't exist anymore and they never coexisted together.
  8. Am I the only one who thinks they are missing out on a huge market. Halloween? Plus they are barely open four months of the year. KI opens in April through October, cash flow!
  9. Looks like what is left of the main gate has been braced to keep it from collapsing. I wonder why, wouldn't it make more sense to let it collapse?
  10. Funny thought, my home park(Wet n' Wild Emerald Pointe in Greensboro, NC) made the top 20 North American waterpark with 398,000 in attendance. I normally refer to Carowinds as my home park..... Carowinds is 80 miles from me. Emerald Pointe is 26 miles. I worked at both, but haven't been to Emerald Pointe in years. The absence of Thunder Road will change that. No Thunder Road, No Carowinds Season Passes My family can't afford Carowinds Season Passes and a vacation, and the decision always is in favor of Carowinds. Our last vacation(trip to other parks) was 2011 and it was Dollywood. I have been itching for two seasons now to go to another park. Family Kingdom, Six Flags Over Georgia, Dollywood and Kings Dominion are all options. Plus we can afford a day trip to Emerald Pointe again.
  11. Can I assume "999" is their "911"?
  12. What the difference (other than manufacturers) between Rattlesnake at CWoA and Legoland parks Techic Coaster?
  13. Hmm, sounds to me like the license came up for renewal and they didn't have the money to pay it. Pretty much useless without the rights to use the theme wouldn't you say?
  14. I am surprised they are keeping the whole park closed.
  15. Oops, three trains. Goldrusher came with four but both were damaged. So they made one out of two.
  16. Well we see how the riders lost legs in one picture. Oh and for the record. Carolina Goldrusher at Carowinds had a similar accident without passengers a long time ago. That's why it only has four trains instead the four it came with. The story is that one train valleyed in the tunnel and the second one went over the second lift. The accident happened during test runs.
  17. "food service-run out of ice, then cups? How does THAT happen? Burger meals under heat lamps." This has happened to a Cedar Fair park by the name of Carowinds at least once. Furthermore, heat lamps are friendly at Carowinds!
  18. Please explain metal fatigue to me.
  19. Good to hear, I thought this park was done for.
  20. http://rcdb.com/3793.htm?p=19652 How does it recline the seats? The above picture is at KI but I didnt see these Iin the video. Carowinds uses these to lift and lower the seats on Nighthawk.
  21. Is KI as bad at thier Trivia Game as Carowinds? I found more than 3 errors in Carowinds FunTv trivia
  22. What a jerk. I do it to my daughter....Only on one ride has she not wanted to ride again. Southern Star(Carowinds), everything else, within ten minutes...."Daddy, can we ride _____ again"
  23. Carowinds already has two wavepools
  24. Worst decision in Carowinds history. Honestly try and quit going. I cant fit on Fury or Intimidator so is it really worth it?
  25. Is that implying that the steel frames cost more to maintain? Hurricane at Myrtle Beach Pavilion was a CCI hybrid and it was one of my least favorite coasters. On a related note, rcdb lists Gwazi was removed, I thought the structure was still standing?
