  1. Man it's nice to know the park has taken a strong interest in entertainment again.
  2. I found this one primarily interesting as well.
  3. For some reason it still bothers me how on the sign the red is on the left and blue on the right, when really the blue is on the left and red on the right. It just seems like one of those details that should have been noticed. Oh well, maybe I'm just used to disney.
  4. I hope they fight it with everything they've got. Tourism is already bad enough with the price of gas where it is.
  5. The thrills are totally different. On skyflyer you seem to feel less g's than normal where on slingshot you feel more than normal. If you want a real thrill, come down here to flordia and ride the 300ft skyflyer right next door. That... is a thrill.
  6. While I do understand what you are saying, some people need to understand that a park is not there for their own personal pleasure. If parks would actually allow trims to be removed so that the force of the ride can always be felt, a majority of the people would hate the ride. For instance: you just came back from CP and experienced Magnum. The trims in the pretzel slow down the train enough so when you come to the bunny hops, the lap bar does not kill your thighs (more than it already does). For an enthusiast, we know where to lift up on the lap bar or know how to sit, for a non-enthusiast all they will remember is the pain the ride caused. That is not the type of experience the parks want people to remember. If those people remember a bad ride experience, they very well could spend their money at another park. And less revenue for a park directly effects people like you and me either by higher ticket prices OR less fantastic trill rides (ironically the same thrill rides and enthusiast whines about). There are enough enthusiast events to satisfy the hard-core fans. It is just that the enthusiast needs to remember that operating a park is a business, and if the majority of the guests are not happy, the park does not make money. And then we all lose out. This is the single best post I have seen on here in a very, very long time! Logic is still alive and well! This almost makes me happy that I am starting to post again, (now if only it could fix the other bad portions of this year...grumble...grumble). Agreed! I'm glad someone can be the voice of reason. Often times people will check their common sense at the door when entering the park but please dont do the same when entering the forum.

Do you think anyone ever thinks "maybe someone with a good zoom lens is going to zoom in on this tag and read something they shouldn't." Apparently they dont.
  8. Maybe he's from "Kings Island Ohio." Thats a pretty common place used by the Knieval group.
  9. I have seen the speeds of the train up to 70 before. I have also seen early first empty train in the morning where the train has maxed at about 40. These speeds are at the bottoms of the first and second hill; typically both speeds are relatively the same. One particular time the train left the brake shed at 7mph. Other times I have seen the train leave the brake shed at as high as 32mph. I apologize; I have been at the DeLorean Car Show in Gettysburg, PA since thursday and just got home tonight. 156 cars there and I placed second in class . EDIT: I also recieved the award for the greasiest hands at the show, lol. Oddly enough, it was not because I was working on my car but on others cars.
  10. Oh boy. I dont think there are many topics with more answers on this board.
  11. Look up because someone wrote the word gullible on the celing.
  12. I own one... I drove it to West a couple of times, but that was rare. The car in my avatar is my car. Here's a picture of it at a recent Back to the Future venue of mine. If you notice I have my rear louvres off and have the time machines big rear vents in the back. There is a Mr. Fusion but it is behind the door. The flux capacitor is in the center and that kid (who is supposed to be M. Mcfly) is holding my home made hoverboard. By the way, I'm sorry if I sound harsh in my posts, I just try to look at the parks decisions, from the parks point of view. As an enthusiast there are often decisions I am upset by but when I visualize the parks position, I often understand their decisions. (while still disagreeing)
  13. From both the employees at the Crypt and my own experiences I have seen it to be doing very well. Discodude's right on that one. Reguardless of it's past, I think the Crypt is doing much better than most intended. I do not disagree with you that children like the train. Everybody likes the train. The only trains that I dont like are kind that make you have to drive 25 miles out of your way to Cedar Point (right discodude, lol). Nobody is going to argue with you that the train is a good ride, but the train and KCKC are not in the same category. Aside from the relaxing nature of the train and the fact that everyone can ride it and appreciate it, it is also used for transportation from Boomerang Bay. KCKC was a ride where you went up in a boat, rode around and didnt get wet. Steve, there are people like you that miss KCKC, believe me, I'm one of them, but that's not to sa I disagree with the parks decision. The people that miss KCKC are not a big enough group to pay the bills. Believe me, kids faces did not "light up" for KCKC the way that they do for the train. The ride was, and I'm sorry to say this, not that great. It was a boat ride, and the only reason there is so much discussion about it is because it's gone. If it was still there, we'd probably be talking about what bad shape it's in. Not to mention KCKC never had a line. Yea I know, great, we can ride it as much as we want, but aside from it's capacity abilities, it also reflects popularity. KCKC was only kind of popular. Wild thornberry's, flashy, themed, etc. is far more popular than KCKC was; and so is the crypt. By the way parents with kids go the the park for the kids and the kids want to go for the kiddy rides. Kiddy rides = Parents spending money in the park Parents of families are easily the highest money spending demographic the park reaches out to. To Quote myself in a previous thread:
  14. They also guzzeled gas like real cars. ~16 cars running 9:30am-10:30pm every day= lots of $$$ Still it is just impractical to have two log flumes right next to each other, especially when KCKC was on prime realtly. Besides you dont know what kind of maintainence was required to keep the ride running. In the end it wasnt worth it. Its all about oppportunity cost. Spend money on an old stinky water ride, or cut our losses and build a new ride that we can promote that will in the long run bring people into the park. It's like choosing between keeping a car that gets 15 miles to the gallon that is already paid off or buying a newer car that gets 30 miles to the gallon. Yea you have to pay the price tag for the new car, but in the end (especially with these gas prices) you're spending half as much on gas. Believe me that definately adds up. The difference between the DeLorean and my Mustang is 7mpg and I notice a difference. The train is not going anywhere. However I have never seen kids have this reaction: ... for the viking fury.

  16. If it were me, I'd rather pay full price on a day like wednesday because of the lack of crowds. The way I see it, the people that go on days like those this past week are getting far better bang for their buck as they can ride most everything with very little wait. I would easily pay more for a day at the park with some closed attractions for part of the day and NO lines than I would a Saturday where the park is PACKED, closes at 11, but has all the rides open. Besides, pre and post season weekend days have 8:00 closes and no Boomerang Bay. People will pay full price to get in this upcoming fall just to have to leave the park at 6/7PM (if Cedar Fair does indeed make Halloween Haunt an upcharge.
  17. As Mitch Hedberg would say: Mr. Pibb is a replica of Dr. Peppr, but it's a Bull**** replica 'cause the dude didn't even get his degree. Why'd you have to drop out and start making pop so soon?!
  18. I think he was talking about Miss Gibson. She'll be in Flashback: Totally 80s! this year. I wonder if they'll need any particular cars for that show...
  19. Steve, I think you're misunderstanding the meaning of the word "prototype" in this situation. They weren't "testing" anything with human lives. The design had been proven that it could operate safely thus why it was allowed to be built. Arrow had a facility where they would test designs (you can see it here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cmtm9G9bPvA). They knew it was safe, but by prototype they mean it was the first technologically of its kind. While it operated it had a perfect safety record. BL:SC, Flight of Fear, and Crypt were all considered prototypes by their manufacturers. Not to mention, how different is what Arrow used to do from what Intamin has done in the last 8 years at Cedar Point? They tried to put a 70mph zero g-roll on maverick... enough said. Arrow set the foundation for steel coasters. It was just inability to compete and lack of more modern designs that the company went under. Arrow is like packard, studebaker, dusenburg, etc. Any company that had an integral part in the history of their product but was eventually beat out by companies with new, more advanced designs.
  20. Looks like a nice park. I know how much you like tilt-o-whirls. Especially after your trip to Holiday World and being so broken up that the Turkey Whirl wasn't running. "We just love turkeys and love tilt-o-whirls, and when the two come together..." Its a shame you missed out on the swan boats. I loved riding the swans that used to be at the other CP. I remember going through the fountain and filling the boat with water; talk about good times. Too bad they replaced them with some new launching coaster... Maverick or something...
  21. Because relocating isnt free. It requires a considerable amount of work to disassamble a ride, ship and reassamble a ride at a new, prepped location. King Cobra was already in BAD shape. Why would another park want a 20 year old piece of crap. Dont get me wrong, I love King Cobra as much as the next guy, probably more, but I can understand the parks position. KCKC, come on really? Honestly, from the parks perspective, do we really need two 30+ year old log flumes right next to each other? Besides, when Tomb Raider opened, nobody had regrets about the removal of KCKC. Again, I love KCKC as much as the next guy and probably more, but it wasn't THAT great. The park is constantly trying to upgrade. Yea they want to hold onto some nostalgia but some things have to be cut, decisions have to be made. The park cant hold onto an old stinky water ride that you do NOT get wet on, for a select few that would rather have it than the current state of Tomb Raider. People only miss it because it's gone; what I mean is, if it was still here, people would not go around saying: Man I'm so glad the park still has this ride. People complain about rides like Top Gun, Adventure Express, etc. but as soon as the park replaces them, people will complain and say the park had no reason to do so. Fast Tracks? Seriously? People miss those? These slides burned the **** out of your back. I think the only reason the park kept them around so long is because occasionally a womans top would fly off. Antique cars- no comment... The park is constantly upgrading. The park is not trying to appeal to us individual enthusiasts. One day out of the year on KIC day the park is catering to us, ever other day of the year, they're trying to appeal to the average familys that dont even notice when a ride is replaced. Do you know how much more money the park makes off of those familys than the do off of you? I know how to save money at KI; honestly, I'm probably the last kind of guest KI wants because I rarely buy merchandise, rarely buy more than one or two slices of pizza, always get free water, never play games, and never pay to get in. Why in the hell would the park want to please me. The park wants familys of 4+ who buy 2 complete meals every time they go, everyone has to get a souviner, everyone plays games to get 10 cent plush toys, etc. etc. etc. The park makes more money off of one family of four in one visit than they do off of me in 10 visits. Honestly, why did they remove the antique cars? Because the average guest didn't even notice. And to boot, they dont even notice that half the effects dont work on IJ. All they see now is a flashy launching coaster that the kids that are too afraid to ride The Vortex are willing to ride. Why remove antique cars, because all they see is a big swinging thing, and a flashy Sling Shot ride. Why replace KCKC, because there is still a log flume next door, and when it works, the average guest enjoys tomb raider. Why replace fastracks, because now a family of 4 can race, have fun, and not burn up their backs. Lots of money is spent to please this demographic of patron. You think the park is having Robbie Kineval jump for amusement park enthusiasts? As though the park is expecting 70,000 Acers on May 24th? No way! The park wants to give average money spending familys a reason to come to the park and spend $$$. And if that means giving people hope to see robbie kineval get extremely hurt, so be it! My cousins/aunts/uncles come in from out of town about once a year and go to the park. For ~6-8 of them, with maybe a couple free tickets, and some to pay for, between admission, food, games, merch, etc., they spend $300-400 EASY, probably more. They come every year and barely even notice the changes. They NEVER complain about ride replacements. At most they say: "didnt the park have antique cars? Oh well, lets get in line for Italian Job." I havn't spent $400 at the park in the last 2 years, including employee meals! Steve, no offense but you work at the park, the park isn't making money off of you; why would they care about pleasing you. No ride replacement is ever a downgrade in the parks eyes. If it was then they wouldn't do it. You cant promote KCKC after 30 years but you can promote Tomb Raider; you cant promote fast tracks but you can promote collangata(?) racers; you cant promote King Cobra but you can promote the hell out of Delerium; you cant promote antique cars but you can promote the Italian Job; and that is what brings people to the park. Also with the rising price of gas, it probably would not have been long before the park replaced the antique cars anyway. The park does not remove/replace rides to spite patrons, they do it to please them. If you're not pleased, then honestly, you're probably not worth pleasing. Progress is progress. Out with the old, in with the new; it's the american way. Bottom line: To the average american guest, for the money they pay to enjoy the park, they want new flashy, swingy, launchy, top spinny, racing, rides, not old slow, rusty, stinky watery, gas guzzely, back burny, rides. I'm sorry to be so blunt, and I'm sorry if I offend anyone, I'm just trying to make a point.
  22. That would be dirty business, really really dirty business...
  23. First off I don't think that a restaraunt at a park with full service like you are talking about would be very successful. I know that when I am at a park I want to eat and get out as quikly as possible. Having a server is just going to waste quality time that I could be spending riding rides. Who is going to want to sit for an hour waiting on food to be prepared and served. As far as the $4 Coke, this is where a majority of the money is made at the park. But would you rather see your season pass price be jacked up an additional $100 - $200 just so you can save an extra 50 cents on a burger? Honestly, I will take the current prices on the food and get a season pass for the reasonable price it's offered at considereing it's pretty much a steal when you add in the free parking benefits they offer every season. Very true, besides, imagine the prices of a full service resturant at Kings Island. Remember that outback steakhouse next door, it's starting to sound pretty good. Believe me I know because I work there, and everyone already comes there after their day at KI (unfortunately, many of which are very poor tippers). The only amusement parks that I enjoy full service at it are the disney parks because they DO put a LOT of effort into making the experience worthwhile and the food has always been VERY good.
