Rain Question

Featured Replies

I am very curious as to KI's rain policy.

Do they shut down every ride in the park if there is thunder?

Does anyone know how long it usually takes for rides to re-open after rain has moved through?

I am thinking about going to KI today, Wednesday, but with spotty rain showers here and there I didn't know what stayed open and what closed... if anyone knows anything I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

There was a time earlier this season when any rain closed the coasters. Recent reports indicate this is no longer the case unless it lightnings, and I suspect that is the case, but I wouldn't bet a year's salary on what they'll do. I'd say you will probably be okay, especially if it is showers off and on. Many people choose to go another day, and days when it rains off and on can be very good days to go.

Thanks so much for the response.

Good point about how threatening weather could potentially keep the crowds down - I think I will try it out today. After 4 rides each on Vortex and Beast this season, I still have to ride Firehawk!

When rides to close due to rain, they have to stay closed for atleast 15 minutes, until it is safe.

I generally just ride indoor rides or do some shopping until the rain/storm passes. I know at Cedar Point one year I went, it was raining buckets, and I rode the Himalaya and Tilt-A-Whirl.

No they dont, they close untill the manager calls and says its fine to open. There is not time limit that must be waited. All coasters will close for lightning, some for heavy rain, and some for heavy winds. The Beast for example will close for all three.

As for earlier in the season when coasters were closing for any amount of rain. Well that was because of the meeting of the trains on Magnum at CP which Cedar Fair attributed towards the fact that it was raining at the time. To be safe all Cedar Fair coasters closed for rain thereafter. That rule has since become more loose over time and will probably no longer used eventually.
