Carowinds DZ Cable Found to be Thin

Featured Replies

While the news that happened at Six Flags was tragic, I remember and you should to that... You have a million times more of a chance getting hurt driving to an amusement park than getting hurt in one.

And like was said in the article, even though the cable was showing some wear, they said it was no were near the point of breaking. But I can be Carowinds will be installing all new cables before it reopens at least the one that is showing the wear. I bet the inspections on these rides will happen a lot more now too.

They already happen at the start of the year, and every morning. How many more inspections do you want a year?

And plus, the Drop Zone at Carowinds is nothing like ours.

I know it's different. The one at Carowinds is just like the one the accident happened on.

I never felt safe on those Drop Tower rides. I prefer a good, old-fashioned coaster.

My mom won't let me ride Drop Zone anyone more, after she herd of the accident.

That's lame /\ . I never have liked drip rides...those and waterparks...i don't like either of them, I don't trust them, and I don't look good in waterparks or trust those kind of rides. Water rides are completely up to physics, i just never felt safe knowing there was nothing but a bit of water and some plastic between me and the ground. On dry rides there are tangible physical systems holding me in. But even so I've never ever felt right on a drop ride. Not to say they aren't safe either, because I know a vast majority are (99.99999%).

I also like how the media spins these things...I was watching it on Fox News yesterday, and they made theme parks out to be dangerous death traps, and every interview they had basically consisted of A) and eyewitness account and then B: how no one should ever ride amusement rides and to boycott theme parks until safety becomes more of a concern...it was dumb. I can understand some feelings like that especially being a witness to something of that nature.

this post had absolutely no plot or pertanance to the main subject, I just went out on a tangent. sorry.

^ You do know that even though it is an air launch (you must be referring to an S & S tower) there are still cables.

Even though it is a rather scary thought that DZ at Cw was closed for a frayed cable, that is what the investigation is for. I applaud those parks that shutdown their drop rides for an in-depth inspection.

I have really only felt unsafe on traveling carnival rides. Not that they are unsafe, but that is how I felt. Specifically on the Zipper-type rides.

Oddly, until my son stuck his head out of a train ride at the fair/carnival, I thought nothing of them. (No, he wasn't hurt. But he's not allowed to ride the train anymore.) Now, I get skittish. We only go for the dinky Ferris Wheel, cause KI doesn't have one. THEY NEED ONE!
