Action 180 Theater?

Featured Replies

What was (is?) the Action 180 Theater, as mentioned in the Random Facts of Park History? Was it the The Cinema 180 Theatre mentioned in the Timeline, and if so, what was that before/after it became Action 180 Theater? Where was this located in Coney Mall?

I believe originally, while waiting for the movie, there was a turntable that spun around revealing objects on the other side of the wall. Right now it is where the PT characters are located at in the Theater. At least that's what I think it is. I could be, and probably am, wrong....

It is still there and you can see if from the line. It still works, but they dont have it running on a daily basis. Sometimes they turn it.

Its still their across from The Vortex exit and next to the bath rooms. Not sure why its still their they used for lasser tag and then just let it sit. This area would make a great spot for a good flat.

Same here. I thought we were talking about the Action Theater turntable that is between the two theaters outside in the que.

Cinema 180 was a round tent-like structure right next to the bathrooms opposite of Vortex (near the exit to Flight Commander).

The ceiling was domed, and it showed a short movie (usually a scenic film from the first person perspective of handgliding, a race car, riding a rollercoaster, etc.) The film was shown on half the ceiling and half the walls (hence the "180"), so you felt surrounded by the images. It was sort of an early attempt at a simulator...although nothing really moved. Also, there were no seats...everyone sat on the floor.

Cinema 180 to this day remains the only "ride" that ever made me throw up! In 8th grade, I walked out of one of the showings and puked everywhere! Someone told me later that it wasn't unusual with "motion" simulators like that...your brain perceives motion, but your middle ear doesn't register it, so it makes you sick unless the images are in perfect balance. (Which, considering it was shown in a glorified tent, probably weren't...) Anyway, I never went into it again after that day (1984 or so...)

I'm not sure when Cinema 180 was removed, but it eventually became the lazer tag site.

Yup - I got sick in there too! The "ride" in the baby buggy rolling down hill on a city street was cool and the short "ride" on the roller coaster was OK too! But when that crop dusting plane made turns, it really got to me.

It WAS air-conditioned in there and you did sit on the floor, but it was a great idea. The movie was a bit blurry though.

The building is still there, and it is located next to the bathrooms by The Vortex exit. It was used for the Lazer Tag attraction until this season. The new squirt racing game that they put in sits in front of what used to be the queue and entrance to the Cinema 180.

They used to show paramount movies there, i saw top gun inside there when i was like 8. It was kinda like a small imax theater. Now its just a locked dome

Actually it hasnt been used since the same show was in both sides which would be 007, but even then they hardly ran both sides at the same time. Pretty much it was only consistantly used during DOT when there was a race car sitting on the turn table. Honestly i doubt it even works anymore.

As would the Flight Commander platform. I'm not sure why they didn't move the Eagles to one of these areas.

Because it's a BRAND NEW RIDE at Carrowinds!

I wonder if the tower can be packed up and sent to Canada's Wonderland and they can send the Mountain to KI?

dude i always thought that the fyling eagles would go great where flight commander was because since its elevated and there arent any trees, you could really get some good wind there to help push the eagles
